Billcoke 2nd Gear March 25, 2012 Share March 25, 2012 Bro, Need your help on how to boost a weak WiFi signal. The free WiFi signal at our hotel room is very weak because my room is at furtherest end of the building, I wanted to setup my Wifi router as a (repeater / bridge or access point) so that my iphone can tap on the hotel Wifi. According to my router manual, the hotel router needs my router MAC address and vice versa, so that both routers can sync with each other, and also the channel for both routers must be the same. Is there a eaiser method for such setup??? ↡ Advertisement
Happily1986 5th Gear March 25, 2012 Share March 25, 2012 how can you achieve this unless you have the hotel's blessings in commandeering their wireless access point?

Yeah, think I'm crazy with this idea. But what if the hotel room only provide wired LAN cable, can I hook it up with my router, so that my iphone can tap on the WIFI? (see below video) but I doubt this would work. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fntoZ6rjOfc

Actually i still can't believe you are so hardcore to bring along a wireless router on your biz trip. Your problem suggest to me that all you need is to setup a wireless adhoc hotspot using your computer. I assume you got cat5 cablefor someone who already brought along a wireless router! Happily1986 5th Gear March 26, 2012 Share March 26, 2012 Thanks, because some hotels only have LAN cable and not WiFi, so Iphone won't be able to connect. My suggestion. If data connectivity is important for you and you are on a few day trip, then you should consider getting a 3G wifi router. I suppose those prepaid data plan can be made available for very affordable prices nowadays. The downside is that the usage expires in a few days. The 3G wifi router is for your to share the data bandwidth of the prepaid data sim card. It should fare much better especially if data connectivity is crucial to you e.g. preparing presentations etc. 3G wifi routers are generally very small and compact in form factor as well. Jman888 Moderator March 26, 2012 Share March 26, 2012 plug and play huh???..........how much you bought yours'???................i need one leh............. [laugh] plug and play depends on what the hotel allow you to do. If at home, can use it to extend the wifi in the bedroom. http://store.apple.com/sg/product/MB321ZP/...node=MTY1NDA0Mg ↡ Advertisement
