Bicolor 5th Gear February 29, 2012 Share February 29, 2012 It's quite a common occurance. Giant centipedes are not rare in Asia, even urbanized environments like Singapore or Hong Kong. But that guy seriously exagerrated the size. I don't believe the centipede in that video is 60cm long. Can't tell what type of snake that is, but it is probably a very small one. Here are some photos and video I took of a big centipede eating a small snake in HK.

Scion Turbocharged February 29, 2012 Share February 29, 2012 the largest ones are living in Amazons Scolopendra gigantea (also known as Peruvian giant yellowleg centipede and Amazonian giant centipede) is the largest representative of the genus Scolopendra, regularly reaching lengths of 26 cm (10 in) and can exceed 30 cm (12 in).[1] It inhabits the northern and western regions of South America and the islands of Trinidad, Puerto Rico, Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Jamaica, and Hispaniola. It is carnivorous, feeding on insects, lizards, frogs, birds, mice, and even bats.[2] It is also known to prey on tarantulas.[3] The body consists of 21 to 23 segments which are coppery red or maroon in color, each with a pair of yellow-tinted legs; the legs are adapted for fast walking. The centipede has modified claws called forcipules which curve around its head and can deliver venom into its prey. The extremely potent venom, containing acetylcholine, histamine and serotonin (pain mediators), proteases and a cardiodepressant factor, is toxic to humans and causes severe swelling, chills, fever, and weakness. Although bites are painful, they are very unlikely to be fatal to humans.[4]

Soufigo Neutral Newbie February 29, 2012 Share February 29, 2012 Many years ago when i was about 9-10yrs old...i saw a big centipede about 30-45cm in length. it was at a park in pasir ris (not pasir ris park). i think they were somewhat 'shifting house' because, there were hundreds or maybe thousands of smaller centipedes surrounding the 1 big one (probably something like a queen?) and they were crawling in the same direction. i was too stunned to even run away. just stood there as they went past me. funny thing is...they didnt even bother to attack or bite me. i cant remember if i was with my mom, dad or grandad..but i know i was with someone. this one no make up story but up to u to believe me or not.
