Hi All,

Appreciate if you can help :D

Was in C&C yesterday to look at E250 and sales quoted an insurance premium of 1.8k after 50% NCB discount.

Is your insurance premium so high?

My mark-x is about 1.9k but before discount, can this be possible considering E250 is only 1.8 cap engine.

Also between AD and PI, was told that C&C tropicalised their MB when bringing them into Sg.

PI cars will have more tendencies of overheating due to direct import from Europe, which in turn cost more in terms of breakdown and servicing. What do you think?

Thanks a million....don't know which way to go now??? [:(]

1st year insurance from AIG is higher but they offer 1-to-1 replacement if you total your car (touch wood)...

After that, look to switch lor...

Anyway, I don't believe in what tropicalization jazz - those countries with 4 seasons actually stress the car more - can you imagine going from sub-zero in winter to nearly 40 degrees in summer and back again...our climate here is quite constant...

i paid $1200 for insurance although previous ride only $700 (despite previous ride is 3L compare to now 1.8).

i think it has to do with higher OMV. Also, in-house insurance is part of the margin all SE works for.

For PI, do compare every options available from AD. Also, only buy with stock. OMV and options can then be confirmed.

My AD's E250 has OMV of 57K. Keyless go, brown leather and electric blinds are options i want but not available from PI then.

Hope the above can help as guides.

[laugh] [laugh] Frankly, how many E250 drivers actually total their car??? As most of them should be at least 40 years old cat and in any case, how often you see heavily modded E250 driven by boy racer?? Really don't know what the hell are the insurance company thinking. [hur]

On tropicalisation note, isn't it true that conti cars used to overheat in our climate??

May I know if you are driving a PI or from AD???

Thanks for your reply.......... drive safe [drivingcar]

I suppose you have bought your E250, for how long now? and how was the car in terms of reliability?

Also what is the petrol consumption on the car?? I know this is a very subjective question and there are many school of thoughts.

Call me cheapo or anything, but this is just me..... [blush] petrol consumption is a consideration.

Thanks.

i got mine for about a month now. So i really cannot comment on its reliability.

But from my friends with all sorts of conti car, most commented Merc has better reliability.

My meter shows around ard 14L/100km. So i guess its around 7km/l?

i'm very heavy footer so i'm not surprised with my higher than normal FC.

I think by the time your car run in should have better mileage, that's normal.

Also looking at the pricing from PI and AD, it is difficult to ignore the amount of savings given by PI.

Although I cannot rule out AD can provide better back up service on the vehicle, still 30k difference can do alot of servicing....if you know what I mean [grin]

What was your considerations when purchase with C&C?

30K is alot! When i was comparing, the diff is only 18K as AD gives 10K overtrade.

PI's OMV is lower and some options i wanted is not available..so i opt for AD instead.

Dont forget, most PI's published pricing requires minimum loan. This is a bulk of their margin they usually will insist.

I bought my C180 2 yrs back from C&C. Selling price was $138,888. I got it for $130,000. Before purchasing, I needed to satisfy myself so I went out to fish around at PI's. Firstly, it was only $8000 cheaper than C&C-simple math,,it's the same price. Hence, I got it at C&C (who says you can't bargain??)!!.Then, PI's C Class is different, certain parts and panels are not from Germany. That's why it is also cheaper. Thirdly, to do servicing at C&C is cheaper than doing it outside(surprised!!), not to mention they will offer you points which will definitely cover your warranty period and free delivery services at your disposal after servicing. (you think PI do that??). Fourthly, after the third year, your car can be service at C&C cheaper than Japanese premium cars. And C&C cars are serviced at intervals of 15 000 km. Last but definitely not the least, you should get recommendations from merc owners, shop around and do your own case study. It's not cheap....you know.

The summer in Europe is HOTTER than Singapore. I am not sure what can they do differently.

Nope, the heater is still there...hahah

In fact, there is a very good use for it...occasionally will turn it on at full blast to help clear the mouldy smell...it works [laugh]

Neutral Newbie

Hi all. Bought the E200 from C&C three years back after looking around and considering the pros and cons of getting from AD / PI. For my model, discovered that C&C speced cars were better with Keyless Go and GPS.

The advantage of buying from AD is the comprehensive warranty and the higher OMV. C&C cannot discount the cars outright unless they are used for special occasions (e.g. International Water week) as they have certain guidelines by the principal office, Daimler Asia.

But I give two thumbs up for the level of professionalism shown by some of their staff. Pleasant sales experience.

PIs have lower overheads and that is why they can pass some of these cost savings to the consumer.

Btw, in case any of you are interested, I am selling my Merc which is in superb condition. See link below.

Rubber seals...... I heard the S. Africa ones also have smaller battery.

all mercs nowadays are from germany leh.... s.african cars don't apply here anymore

and i hardly think that they can be bothered to replace the rubber seals when they shipped the cars into singapore, although i know that rubber seals are a big problem for BMWs.

however i don't think the climate in singapore can be blamed for deteriorating rubber seals. in any case, the summers in Europe are as hot if not hotter than singapore's climate. even worse, northern and central europe has sub zero cold winters and this range of european annual temperature will affect the car parts more than the constant hot climate in singapore... can you imagine the same car part facing summer temps of 40 degrees celsius and winter temps of -10 degree celsius plus wind, rain and ice all in the matter of a few months?

so i think Conti car parts actually last longer here than in temperate climates.
