Switching petrol from Shell to Esso?

Am currently pumping Shell 98 for my Honda Civic since i got it 6 months ago. Principal reason to use Shell is cos its the nearest station to home. Recently, understand that Esso is having a bigger discount and am tempted to make a switch. I intend to continue pumping 98 if switching.

 

Questions:

 

(1) Is it bad for my car if I switch from using Shell to Esso? Some people tell me it is always better to stick to the same company.

(2) If no, is there an ideal time to switch? e.g. when my tank is almost empty?

Petrol is petrol. All brands are the same. Don't believe all those rumours la, people all over the world switch brands all the time.

I don't think there'll be a problem. Think about it...what would happen if you were driving up north and your tank is running empty and the only fuel station available is Petronas. Don't tell me you will die-die must find a Shell station rite?

Anyway, I've switched from Shell to Esso about 6 months back and my car is running as per usual. Like you, I also use Shell because it's the nearest station to my place but switched to Esso because I can redeem fuel with my Esso smile card and along the way I get to go to my favourite makan place. BTW, I drive a Kia Cerato.

I think your qns had been answered by fellow bro/sis.

 

I also same like you, use shell, becos of the huge no of stations back in 2000, ie the convenience of pumping... but after esso mobil merged, their stations are as many as shell, thus this rule out the convenience.

 

next is the speed pass, exxonmobil allow credit card tagging, thus earn smile + credit card points, all in 1 key tag, = convenience of carrying only 1 device!

 

no need wait till what ever level of the tank, anytime you can just switch, as long as it is petrol... [sweatdrop]

I think the only ideal time for you to switch over to ESSO is ...to used up whatever shell escape points first before converting to other brand ... :D

 

Shouldn't be a problem converting to other brand ... I used ESSO too ...Once got a free $50 SPC voucher from dealer ...pump a tank of it ...once in a while i also pump Shell V-power ... Only short of Caltex i haven't try ...

haha i tried spc, caltex & esso..and my car is still running well..no prob.. =) but haven't tried any shell nor vpower before..haha..

 

bro i tink it would be good to change to esso when your petrol needed light is lighted up..haha.. just my 2 cents..

You can change and mix petrols at any time but never mix different brands of engine oil.

There will not be any harm done to your car. Discount for stations/brands are all the same unless you talking about credit card discount.

 

For my case, my previous ride like Esso more than brands...more smoother and slightly more mileage comparing to others...

1) there will not be any harm done but due to different additives and for your car to get use, you MIGHT suffer a bit on FC or car feel a bit sugglish, usually prompting people to say that xxx petrol not good for car.. so get pass a few tank (mabye 2 to 3 tank) before you come to a verdict.

 

2) in relationship to Qns 1, yes, ideally it's better to start on empty tank..

 

 

anyway, it's just petrol.. no difference on the primary product.. it's usually the secondary, i.e additives that make a difference..

If you charge your bill to OCBC or HSBC credit card at Caltex, its station 5% + cc 5% = total 10% discount.

You get additional $3 off if you have the AA coupon.

Agree that petrol is petrol...but some petrol does give better mileage.

 

Eg...my present ride....pump Esso....lesser km per tank. Caltex is the worst for me....bad mileage but power not bad.

 

Shell is best compromise in term of mileage vs power.

 

Lastly...wanna switch just switch....not gonna have any negative impact.

I think it's mostly a placebo effect.

I have been switching between Caltex and Esso for the past 2 years+. Don't feel any significant difference on my Mazda3.

Choice of pump depends on which station I am near when I am low on petrol [sweatdrop]
