At this year's Geneva Motor Show, Zagato is presenting the Roadster version of the Aston Martin Vanquish. For the first time, this Milan workshop is not giving an entirely new look to the production model, but is offering an interesting variation of the Vanquish, introducing new elements of style. While the Aston Martin DB7 Zagato and AR1 were initially presented to customers in the form of a limited edition, immediately sold out, the Vanquish Roadster is a concept proposed by Zagato with the backing of Aston Martin itself. Close cooperation between Nori Harada, Zagato's Automotive Chief Designer, and Peter Hutchinson, Design Manager at Aston Martin, has resulted in this new car introducing elements that are a sharp break with the Roadster segment. A totally unique design of the rear introductes a functional modular cover system. A hard top for winter, developed to not appear as an add-on but as an integral part that also takes in the rear. On warmer days of the year, its place is taken by a transparent hardened glass and an easily used soft cover. Developed by Zagato's engineers, this soft top is easily and simply mounted and, when not in use, is held in the luggage compartment without taking up much space. The car has a round rear light cluster, a tapered tail to best feature the wheelbox, a completely new rear bumper and a new transparent cover. The hardened glass, with its curvy 'double bubble' form, uniquely emphasises the relationship between the solid and void. It covers the luggage compartment immediately behind the seats which can be seen through the glass. Story by Aston Martin Lagonda Limited & Zagato, edited by Supercars.net
  2. This special edition Bentley was introduced at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show and was a joint venture between Bentley and Italian styling house Zagato. The Continental GTZ is equipped with a 600bhp, twin-turbo 6.0-litre W12 Continental GT Speed with a Zagato bodywork and special two-tone finish. It also weighs a 100kg less than the standard GT. During the Concorso D'Eleganza event in northern Italy, the same car was present with special panels covering the rear wheels. That aside, it features Zagato's signature double-bubble roof, a round tail with a unique taillight design, and a hand-painted pin-stripe that's the same color as high quality tan leather, which comes complete with Z motifs hand-stitched into the seatbacks. The original GTZ was priced at
  3. [extract] First I went wow, and then I went, hmm, and then I thought the car looks familiar and finally decided to buy one. In Forza or in die cast of course. The one-off extremely b.e.a.u.-tiful BMW Zagato Coupe blends design characteristics of the two companies, almost perfectly through many hours of hand-craftsmanship. To be unveiled at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d
  4. [extract] Back in 2009, Zagato and Perana Performance Group attracted some attention with their new Z-one. However, the Perana Z-One has now resurfaced under a 111-year old brand known as AC, which will be renaming and selling it as the the AC 378 GT Zagato. The 6.2-litre V8 outputs 440hp and 537Nm of torque. If that doesn

  6. Zagato has been known to collaborate with mainly the Italians like Alfa Romeo, Lancia and Ferrari. They are sort of the Giorgio Armani for cars, taking style to a new level of exclusivity. And now, they have come together with Aston Martin yet again and their new creation will be called, the Zagato. Aston Martin is already well known to make beautiful cars, by far. The Italians usually create striking cars, but not always beautiful. Take the Ferrari Enzo for example, very striking but with too many angles and sharp corners making it look like an insect. Aston however, has always made beautiful looking cars like the DB9, the DB7 and the DB5. The old Zagato was based on the DB4GT and this new model will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the DB4GT. Aston Martin will be revealing the car at the Villa D'Este Concours event on May 21st at Lake Como in Italy to judge the public's reaction to the car and to see if they can put it into limited production in 2012. With this design, I feel that the roofline looks a bit Koenigsegg-ish and on the side profile the huge gills look like it came from the GTR! Very aggressive looking yet refined. So far, Zagato has collaborated with Aston Martin three times, first in 1961 with the DB4GT Zagato, then again in 1986 with the V8 Vantage Zagato while the most recent collaboration was with the DB7 Zagato.
  7. The TZ3 Corsa was built to commemorate 90 years of collaboration between Zagato and Alfa Romeo, and was commissioned by a German Alfa Romeo Zagato collector, Martin Kapp, while attending The Zandvoort Tribute, an event that honours Zagato. The TZ3 Corsa is a two-seater, rear-wheel drive supercar with a 4.2-litre V8 mid-mounted engine that produces 414bhp. The car has a mono shell tubular chassis made of carbon fibre as well as a body handmade from aluminium, meaning that the car weighs in at just 850kg. The TZ3 Corsa is fitted with 18-inch wheels that are matched with Pirelli PZero sport performance tyres. The engine calibration can be manually adjusted, and when combined with a six-speed sequential gearbox, allows the car to go from 0-100km/h in less than 3.5 seconds, and reach a top speed of over 300km/h.

First up a history lesson. The Zagato Ferrari 250 GTZ built almost five decades ago: And the celebratory one: Here's how the story goes: "Yoshiyuki Hayashi is a famous Japanese car collector, who owns numerous cars of great historical value, including several Ferraris such as the 166MM, the 250 Spider California, two Daytonas

During the 80's, while the sports car market was on the rise, the heads of Aston Marin Engineering decided to start production on several recreations. This move would controversially push the production beyond the 19 examples that already existed. The term replica comes to mind, but when Aston Martin Engineering set out to recreate one of their most important cars, no expense was spared to make them exact copies of an original. These recreations were based on left over DB4 GT chassis, specifically #0192, #0196, #0197 and #0198. Every component beyond the chassis was manufactured to exacting standards by AM Engineering. Even ex-Zagato employees were used to create the lightweight, hand-formed body. Essentially the only aspect which separated the early Zagato cars from their newer Sanction 2 versions was the thirty year time span in which they were created. Even though the intention was to create only four additional examples in 1987, more DB4 Zagato recreations were completed in 2000 and 2001. These included two Sanction 3 Coupes and one unique DB4 Barchetta! The DB4 Barchetta was an ambitious project for AM Engineering to take on. It started life as a standard DB4 chassis, which was reengineered to include a shorter wheel base. Like every convertible, considerable rigidity was introduced into the chassis to cope with the loads normally absorbed by the roof. As for performance, the DB4 Barchetta benefits from a number of tasty revisions beyond the standard specification. Such modifications include larger 4.2-liter, inline-6 engine producing 350 bhp. Being almost ten inches shorter, the Barchetta body is also significantly smaller than the coupe. Both the smaller chassis and body help the Barchetta achieve a weight that is almost 300 pounds lighter than the coupes. After years of fabrication, the Barchetta plays a convincing period Zagato. The manufacture of the body and chassis closely represent the methods used on original cars. While some enthusiasts don't want a saturated Aston market, especially by custom 'replicas', this car offers an almost exacting glimpse on a car that might have been created if production ever increased beyond 19 cars.
