We all have relied / are relying on public transportation to get around our sunny little island. For most of us, before getting that driving license, the 2 door Mercedes (front door+back door ) used to be our mode of transport growing up. Was reading up on the different types of public buses in Sg and realised that we used to have a much less homogeneous range of public buses in the past, so I'm just posting a few to bring back memories and keep them alive! Do feel free to add on and share your fond memories of the buses in your life, and the memories associated with them :) Mods please merge if there's a similar thread thanks, tried to find but can't 1. Starting with my fav, which I have taken alot (being a 90s kid) : Mercedes-Benz O405 This was used by both SBS(1989-2011) and SMRT(1994-2016) in various body types: TIB832Z, Hispano Carrocera Bodywork (last SMRT O405, retired in sep 2016) SBS O405, Duple Metsec bodywork 2. Volvo B57, introduced by SBS in 1979-1983 (New Zealand Motor Body) These ran till 1996, and was one of the common sights in the 80s and early 90s 3. Albion Viking EVK41L , in the 1970s when SBS was first formed Some units were first registered as early as 1967 onwards under the Hock Lee bus company, ran till 1987/88 before it left sg roads 4. Mercedes-Benz OF1413 ,1967 onwards source for above pic: https://www.flickr.com/photos/johnoram/6073688117 Ran till around 1993, early buses were first registered from 1967 under the Green Bus Company 5. Leyland Atlantean AN68/2R , 1977 onwards Ran till 2001, one of the first few double decker buses introduced in Sg, one in the pic is with Alexander L bodywork, registered sometime in 1982-1984

As a NS recruit, I did not know much about the Kota Tinggi details but later as a staff officer I had the opportunity to meet these personnel from 2SIR during the usual Friday Tombolo Night. At that time when Singapore was a part of Malaysia our two SIRs were renamed as 1MIR and 2MIR. 2SIR was operationally responsible for the Singapore and southern Johore area. 2MIR (2SIR) was raised in 1962 and billeted at Holland Road Camp. According to my superior who was then a young 2LTA in 2 SIR, Dalgit Singh was already a platoon commander, together with LTA Mejar Singh. 2SIR's CO was a Colonel Campbell, a British seconded from the British Army. It was the crack Indonesian paratroopers from the "KKI", an elite Guards unit from Jakarta which was sent on this mission. The Malaysian police post at Kota Tinggi were alerted of the parachute-landing and the nearest infantry garrison to Kota Tinggi was 2 SIR in Singapore. 1SIR at that time was deployed to the Sabah border with Indonesia. One platoon of 2SIR was sent inside the jungles of Kota Tingi. For those who have ventured into Kota Tinggi (which I did as a child and as a teenager), it has a waterfall as the key attraction. The killing zone was north of the waterfall. 2SIR made no contact with the Indonesians for about a week. However, unknowingly the Indonesians were tailing one of the SIR sections. Not finding them for a week, that section grew tired and went for a bath at one of the nearby Kota Tinggi streams. Everybody left their weapons at the riverbank with no personnel on sentry-duty. For those trained in the SAF doctrine, you are not supposed to do this and at all times, your rifle must be with you. The Indonesians pounded on our boys but one injured personnel managed to sneak away and ran for his life into Kota Tinggi Town. All this time, there was "radio silence" because this was a mission. It was only after the injured personnel emerged from the jungle that the incident became known. When the dead were recovered, their bodies were infested with maggots and were very gruesome Reinforcements were rushed up from Singapore. On that mission were names like James Teo (who was the 5SIR CO for BERSATU PADU in 1971), Jimmy Yap (CO Officer Cadet School), Mahinder Singh (Dy Director SAFTI) and Dalgit Singh (CO 3SIR). They were

How sua ku of me and ignorant of the current diesel engine car prices until yesterday.... Was at Toa Payoh Hub doing some shopping and saw VW having a sale promotions. On display were several models and since I am driving a 7 seaters currently, thought of maybe having a change as it left 4 years. I went straight for their 7-seaters on display. Was looking at their VW Sharan, 2000cc TSI (Euro 5 Diesel engine) on offer with bucket seats all round. Size is slightly bigger than my Picnic, passengers space wise is almost the same but the price of that Sharan was shocking for a diesel engine. Inclusive of COE, the price of Sharan above the range of $225,000+. Didn't know that a diesel engine 7-seaters could cost that much nowadays. The cheapest on displayed was the Golf which above $100k. With my wife and me browsing almost half an hour and no sale engineers approach us. Maybe I was wearing a bermuda & 'T' shirt and to them, we are just another bus & MRT couple feeling shiok touching at their new vehicles on display... Well, will visit BM this weekend to view at the Toyota Previa Hybrid.

I was on the 2nd lane driving leisurely at 70kmh after a dinner night out...I saw you suddenly appearing beside me...can see your handsome face with your chio gf looking at me la...my windows were winded down and I could hear your loud loud exhaust...the next thing you let me hear was your psst psst sound from your Blow-off valve indicating to me that your Vios is equipped with a turbo (how big or small I dunno la) Then you gave me a smile and then quickly slowed down and came behind my car...could hear you kp revving your engine and letting me hear your HKS SQV BOV sound...your distance was so close to me that I think I can even see your shiny white teeth. Maybe you think my humble little Rex is a TS poser due to my (stock bodykit and stock exhaust) or you were dying to show off to your gf that your car can makan any cars...whatever the reason, even if you makan me for breakfast, lunch and dinner I also don't care cos my stomach is still digesting the large amount of food that I had devoured only 15min ago and also not interested to play any stupid games with you...at least not on our Singapore roads. In the end, I let you tailgate me at 70kmh for the next 10min or so....until I think you bui tahan and zoomed past me with a black face...sry to disappoint you mate! Pls la...wanna prove something, go prove it on the track la. And btw, your plastic-looking GT wing looks rather ugly...imho... Anyone has similar encounters before? Not the first time for me though.

Yesterday, at my office building, i was waiting to take the elevator down to first level. With me, there are 2 other PRC people waiting together. The elevator came, door opened and we entered the elevator. Inside the elevator, there were 4 other PRC people, coming down from higher levels. As the elevator was making its way down to first level, suddenly I felt so left out in the elevator. The 4 PRC ppl were talking among themselves (i assume they are colleagues from same office). And the other 2 PRC ppl were talking to each other. I felt so alien, so lonely in the elevator, and I'm in SG, not in China....... Then I realised that SG is no longer the same. With 1/3 of SG population are foreigners and 1/2 of newly created jobs go to these foreigners, I cannot imagine what is going to happen in the next 5 years. While i was in the elevator, the feeling to quickly get out of the elevator and i was hoping that the elevator will quickly travel even faster to the 1st level, was so great..... I felt sick in my stomach..... So people in this forum, look ard what is happening in SG, and what our garment is doing to this country.....

Yesterday I went to the Foodcourt near my house for dinner. I buy a Bowl of Fishball noodle dry, served by Chinese woman. On my Left, a Chio girl eating Tau Suan - Her phone rang, she speaks in Thai. On my Right, a table of Singlets and Shorts and slippers, dressing same as us going downstairs - 2 Ang Mos, 1 German, the other Scottish chatting away. In Front the table, 3 Filipinos, 1 man and 2 women chatting in Tagalog. Behind my table, 3 Chinese women with their Tongue twirling mandarin. After I finished, a Bangladeshi clean my table. Walking out of the Food court, I stumble into the way of an Indian couple (not from Spore due to dressing style different). Dear Singaporean Brudders and Sistas, if you think only of yourselves to make money and enjoy your life, and not starting a family with 3 kids, We will soon be the ones that need to Assimilate to a Pariah culture/nation and become the Minority in Singapore. Please, for those who are married, going to be married and have GF/BF - make babies is more important than make money. Think of the future of our generations.
