Hi, If you got a pair of two-way component speakers in front and a pair of two-way co-axial speakers at the rear powered by a decent 4 channel amplifier, is it still necessary to install a subwoofer plus dedicated amp in the boot? I certainly do not want to get that thunderous killer bass which can be heard outside of the car! Thanks.

Hi guys, Recently I replaced the front speakers to aftermarket and added an sub to the original Mazda Bose System. The result was sure better off than the original bose system. Now I am considering adding on an amp to power the new front speaker but was told by the workshop that as the built in was a bose amp, it requires an amp with built in processor which is rather costly. If using normal 4 channel amp to power the fronts, the result coulbe be worst than current stage. Anyone who have converted their Mazda Bose System could share your valuable experience and set up here?

Is there such a thing as a passive under seat sub? I have installed actives and passives before and active is definitely a no-go for power. However, space is a constraint in hatchbacks but the desire for bass is still there. It would be perfect if there is a sub that can fit under one seat, the amp and crossovers in the other seat.

Hi guys, I tried to search for this kind of information, but there are very few. Just wondering if this is possible? Because I know home woofers are at 8 ohms while car ones are at 4 ohms. What will happen if we hook up the home woofer in the car? This is a passive unit. So will run with an amp. Rating is 100W. My amp is rated 200W. Please advice if this is feasible? Thanks. Sorry for the newbie questions.

I was planning to install woofer but not sure which brand to chose... I was given a 5ch AMP by a friend.. that AMP shld be able to chunck out 350W(RMS) at 4ohm..Was thinking of using that to drive the woofer. I think I would prefer SPL over SQ... but worry that 350W is not enough... Thinking of getting a 12", bigger woofer will take up more space and also may had problem driving them with only 350W.. budget is ard $400 (installation + woofer + box) Any suggestion from u ppl? Another matter is how u appreciate SQ from woofer? can anyone teach me? Frankly, a lot of shop is difficult to audit woofer, so any other way can I do the audit before committing the woofer??

I understand that the Woofer box had a certain cirteria - like the volume of air, that is link to the size of the sub-woofer. But what about the shape? I understand that there are sealed-type, pot-type and I dont mean that but physical shape. IS a rectangular box better than a trapezium box (something like a rectangular box but with 1 size slanting) or a contour box that fix according to the shape of your boot? Does the shape of the woofer box affect the sound quality? Or I only need to concern abt the volume of air?? What other spec should I pay attention to when selecting a woofer box. Frankly, a $80 or a $200 one, I can't tell the difference. It is easier to demo-test component speaker but I think not the case for woofer box and sub-woofer so dont had much of a chance to listen to the difference. What type of wood material is best? what is their respective characteristic (sound). What abt insulation material? Another matter is regarding the bass... what is the correct determining of good bass?? a heart thumping one or one that is not strong (not heart thumping) but still shake the window?? I was previously advise by a tuner that my previous setting had made the bass "too hard" and should adjust it to be "more gentle".. Do "too hard" a bass bad for the setup or this is depending on the type of music one listen too.

Anyone know where to get protector or cover for sub-woofer?

I have changed my rear speakers in my Aveo to 6" JBL and 4" JBL in the front. I changed the head unit to the latest Pioneer MP3/WMA. The sound now is worst then my previous non mp3 HU. I have to turn-up the volume to about 22 before I can really enjoy music. One dealer reccommended me a power amp, then later he said a Bosch active sub-woofer will suffice. He quoted me $450/- for either. I don't know if my HU has preamp out, but what will your reccomendations be? I dont want to spend more than $500/- BTW can HU claims 50 watts mosfet
