  1. Thank you to MCF for picking me as a winner for the lucky draw to drive the Golf GTI for a weekend. Selected the available weekend slot from VCS, Fri to Mon. Met Amanda from VCS at 2pm on Fri to collect the car. Signed the agreement form and proceeded to take delivery of the car. Amanda gave me a very detailed brief of the car from exterior to interior, it was like I bought a brand new car. She handed the car over with full tank of fuel and there is no top-up required by me. And I was also surprised that VCS allowed me to drive the car to Malaysia. However I was not able to due to commitments in SG, attending NDP preview. First look at the Golf GTI exterior, it was stunning, looks big. Mine is white colour. The distinctive red GTI line across the front from head lamp to head lamp stands out, typical of the GTI heritage. The LED headlight and DRS was so beautiful, I liked it. The rest of the body was similar to the rest of the Golf cars. The rear lamps was nothing different to me. And this Golf GTI comes with front sunroof, thou I am not a fan of sunroofs.

  3. Went shopping for a car for my wife at VW today. My wife is keen on the VW golf since most of her friends are driving that and it is relatively fuss-free from what she heard from friends. Plus the compact size will allow her to have lesser parking problems in office. But my colleagues in office are telling me to avoid VW at all cost due to the long service centre queues and lousy customer service. Since the price of a A250 is relatively cheaper than a golf GTI, is it a better choice to get that instead since they look much the same as on paper and in metal.
  4. [extract] Every time Volkswagen releases a new Golf GTI model, it gets more powerful and faster. The current Golf GTI makes around 210bhp and with 280Nm of torque. Pretty powerful for a hatchback but there are other more powerful alternatives if someone
  5. With the recent release of their MQB platform, it is expected that Volkswagen will release the next generation Golf some time in the fourth quarter of this year and Volkswagen will introduce changes to the model that is normally found in higher end models. It is rumoured that Volkswagen will debut the Mk 7 Golf at the 2012 Paris Motor Show this year (29 September to 14 October) and the car will be packed with technology that is usually associated with luxury models. The car will come in several engine variants, from the ordinary petrol engine up to a plug-in hybrid that generates around 243bhp. The normal models are powered by a new series of downsized petrol engines (code EA211) and diesel engines (code EA288). The top of the range diesel model (non GTD) will generate around 181bhp and 380Nm of torque. There is also a 220bhp twin turbocharged diesel engine that the company is still putting under some tests and this one will likely end up in the GTD sub-model. As for the petrol engines, the smallest displacement engine is a 1.4-litre turbocharged engine that generates around 138bhp and it features cylinder deactivation for increased economy. The larger engine (code EA888) sizes are at 1.8-litre and 2.0-litre. The Mk 7 Volkswagen Golf GTI gets the most radical change of all. The 2.0-litre engine will deliver around 260bhp, a 50bhp increase from the current generation. The next Golf GTI will feature the new VAQ electronically controlled front differential and Volkswagen mentioned that it will offer a more agile steering behaviour and a much greater sense of steering precision. All wheel drive and the company
  6. You don't have to oogle at the new 300bhp Ford Focus RS anymore because its coming to town. Though in limited numbers, the new RS version will be making its way to our shores sometime in April. Due to the high demand in Europe, there just aren't that many to go round the world. Luckily though, a few Singaporeans will be able to get their hands on the wheel of this hyper hot hatch which is set to compete with the Golf R and the new Megane Renaultsport RS. With 300bhp on its front wheels, you'd think that there will be tons of understeer but Ford has promised 'exceptional handling' with their new front suspension. It seems that hatches these days are becoming increasingly popular and so is the demand for higher power. I can't wait to get my hands on this one for a drive.. Pity there just wouldn't be a proper place to push this baby to the edge. Unless Ford is ready to get an open area like Jaguar, Audi and Mitsubishi have done in the past to showcase the new RS, driving it on normal roads just wouldn't be the same and having 300 horses lurching you forward with your skull glued to the headrest. Now that's what I want to feel..
