Traffic Police bike gets into accident while chasing offender
chitchatboy posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Now this is not something the residents of Ang Mo Kio get to see everyday! A Traffic Police officer has apparently skidded on the wet floor and crashed his Yamaha bike at the lift lobby of Block 619 Ang Mo Kio. As reported by SG Road vigilante, the incident happened on 27 May 2020 and eye witnesses claim that the officer was trying to chase another motorbike through the void deck when the police officer lost control and hit the wall. The comments by netizens were generally supportive of the officer going all the way in the fight for justice, with the usual few negative views here and there. -
Car dealers to remove warranty restrictions to allow independent workshops to compete http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/car-dealers-to-remove-warranty-restrictions-to-allow-independent-9488024 SINGAPORE: Major car dealers have agreed to remove restrictions on warranties and related documents, announced the Competition Commission of Singapore (CCS) on Monday (Dec 11). The commission said this in a press release after concluding its inquiry into the supply of car parts in Singapore. The inquiry was carried out to better understand how the operations of the car parts market and the effects of market features of competition, CCS said. In its findings, CCS said it was concerned about dealers requiring customers to service or repair their vehicles exclusively at the respective dealers' authorised workshops, to ensure that the warranty remains valid. The restrictions allowed dealers to void warranties if the car had been service or repaired previously at an independent workshop. CCS said such restrictions deterred car owners from using independent workshops and thus the ability to compete effectively with authorised workshops. "To address this, CCS has raised its concerns with the major car dealers and have worked with them to remove the warranty restrictions from their car warranties and related documents," the commission said in the press release. Advertisement All major car dealers have agreed to make the relevant changes to the warranty terms by CCS, it said. All agreed changes to the warranty terms for exsiting warranties and new warranties will be implemented by Dec 31. Another finding by CCS was that importation and wholesale distribution of car parts are generally competitive. Car parts can be obtained from a large number of suppliers located in Singapore and overseas, the commission said. While there is limited supply for parts which are replaced infrequently or that belong to niche models, CCS said this is due to the small number of buyers and sellers in the market. CCS also found that technical information, equipment and diagnostic tools are generally available. This is despite car manufacturers and their authorised car dealers not supplying such inputs to independent workshops. "This is because independent workshops are generally able to gain access to viable alternatives such as those supplied by third-party equipment suppliers," said CCS.

Hi Bros Just got a new ride from Toyota with 5 year warranty. Does installation by wiring third party items like DVR recorder and Leg Room LED tied to door switch void the warranty under BM? I requested them to add on wires instead of tampering with the original wire in car. When I call BM they say anything you don't do with BM is void warranty. Any bro experience servicing from them? Will they inspect all these and be quick to indicate your warranty is voided? Planning to go next week. Thanks in advance.

Let's say a driver got into an accident due to drink-driving. Since most, if not all, insurance do not cover drink-driving, that driver's insurance is void. Now, what about the victims? Can they claim directly from the insurer? Will the insurer pay out first, and then claim against the driver?

Smokers will have even fewer places to light up, with the smoking ban extended to common corridors, void decks and staircases of residential buildings. Other new no-smoking zones include sheltered walkways, overhead bridges and outdoor hospital compounds. The change kicks in in the coming year. At bus stops, the change means those who want to light up must stay outside a 5m radius around bus shelters. Selected parks and town centres could be next, as the authorities make them part of a pilot project to introduce no- smoking zones. ------------------ The smoking ban will soon be extended to more public areas in Singapore. These include common corridors, void decks and staircases within residential buildings, sheltered walkways and overhead bridges and outdoor hospital compounds. Smoking will also be prohibited within a five metre radius around bus shelters. Implementation details of the smoking prohibition will be refined in consultation with the community and building owners. Announcing this in Parliament, Senior Minister of State for the Environment and Water Resources, Grace Fu, said the long term goal is to prohibit smoking in all public places, except designated smoking areas. Ms Fu said she also hopes more hawker centres will make the move to make their premises smoke-free. She added that the ministry will also consider extending the smoking ban to selected parks and town areas. MP for Nee Soon GRC, Lee Bee Wah, had earlier called for better enforcement of the smoking ban. Dr Lee said: "Another thing which can sour a person's daily experience is the exposure to second-hand cigarette smoke. While there is currently a smoking prohibition for some places, public spaces such as linkways, overhead bridges and parks do not have such restrictions. Having laws is one thing, but having it enforced is (another)." In response, Ms Fu said: "Community engagement and individual responsibility are key to successful implementation as there is a limit to the resources we can commit to enforcing a wider smoking prohibition. "Going forward, with more areas gazetted as non-smoking, we will need clearer demarcation of areas where smoking is allowed, with everyone playing their part to observe the rules. Our aim, in collaboration with the Health Promotion Board, is to work towards a future where Singaporeans consider smoking not only detrimental to health, but also socially unacceptable." source: http://www.todayonline.com/Singapore/EDC12...re-public-areas source: http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_774749.html

Recently my neighbor's wife who is a PR from China gave birth to twins.. Apparently they couldnt cope and his wife got her parents from PRC here to look after their children.. The thing is her father is some sort of a karang guni man.. He collects alot of items, from old newspaper, pots, empty drink cans, stools, cardboxes, luggages, bits and pieces of metal from old electrical appliances and equipments, loose wires (im lookin at it as I type) I've seen old crt televisions, parts from furniture and many more.. Now, their unit is at the corner right where the staircase landing is and i stay just beside them.. So he conveniently dumps all these items at the area just outside his house and beside the stairs.. Ok, I take my regular smoke at the staircase, so I watch the items build up over time.. At the beginning it didnt really bothered me as I thought it might just be a hobby for his dad.. And since only me and my sis uses this stairs for our smoke breaks.. It didnt really obstruct the passage.. But he managed to make it a junkyard of sorts.. I'm more concerned with the items posing as fire hazards.. And it really is unsightly.. Now the question is would u guys report this to the town council or hdb? My family is on talking terms with them(the ladies).. Would I be a bas***d to rat on them? Would post a pic later..

Hi dear forumers, I would appreciate whatever advice there is. Thanks in advance!! I was involved in a chain accident, which I am the last car out of 3 cars. What happened is that I rear-ended a Swift when we were moving slowly (around less than 20km/h) along ECP towards east side. The Swift's rear door was dented in, but there was not much damage to my car except for a slightly folded bonnet and cracked bumper. In front of this Swift was a Lancer, which had the rear bumper dented as well. It is not clear who banged into who first, but I was quite sure I had kept a safety distance from the Swift. The thing is, after I reported my accident to my insurance company, and wanted to claim from my company, it took them 7 days from the day I reported to check on my Driving License Date, and voided my insurance 7 days later, stating that I did not satisfy one of their criteria (minimum 2 years driving experience). Problem is, when I purchased their policy, there was no way I could enter my Driving License date! And now the Swift driver had her car repaired, and she tells me that I have to pay for the damage for the Lancer as well. And the damages are not cheap !!!! Amounting to $8000+++ including the rental fee of $120 per day. My questions are: 1. Can Fidrec help to at least ask my previous insurance company to honor at least partial of the claims? My insurance company is D*****A*** 2. Do I really have to pay for the damages to the Lancer? I found this BOLA from GIA link (see page 9) but I'm not sure since my insurance has been voided effectively during the accident. Anyone else in a similar position but still escaped paying for the first car's damages? 3. Is there any way to settle the charges with workshop without seeking approval from the Swift driver? She doesn't seem willing to let me settle with them. Any help rendered is greatly appreciated!!

Why SG kids so violent these days ? Lack of parenting ? Wrong priorities in our society ? Man stabbed in row with love rival at void deck Mr Goh showing the injuries he suffered in the knife attack. -- PHOTO: COURTESY OF HENDRIX GOH A HAWKER'S assistant told The Straits Times on Tuesday how he was stabbed by a love rival at the void deck of a block of flats. Mr Hendrix Goh, 25, said the 19-year-old, who had once dated his girlfriend, knifed him in the collarbone, left arm and back. He said he was hospitalised for a week after the incident in Bedok North earlier this month. The youth is understood to have been arrested. Mr Goh said he was walking to get a taxi with his girlfriend and two other friends after having supper at a hawker centre when the suspect called to say that he wanted to come and return the girl's phone. When he arrived, he asked to speak to Mr Goh privately. Then, Mr Goh said, the youth took out a jack-knife from his pocket and slashed his cheek. He said his girlfriend ran forward to help, but the youth pushed her away. A tussle broke out, during which Mr Goh was stabbed. http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_680114.html

ST Forum May 31, 2011 Chiam on closure of void-deck office LAST Saturday's report ('All MPs can now rent void deck space') mentioned that I closed the office I built in 1985 at Block 108, Potong Pasir Avenue 1 for the Meet-the-People sessions (MPS). This is untrue. The office was actually built by the HDB and not by me. In 1992, the HDB swiftly demolished my MP's office within a day. This occurred a year after my former party (Singapore Democratic Party) won three seats in Parliament. I was then forced to use the void deck, and this was where I conducted my MPS. The premises had no toilet facilities and it was only in the last few years, through frugal savings by the Potong Pasir Town Council, that a toilet was built in that same void deck. Chiam See Tong FORUM NOTE: The writer was the MP for Potong Pasir from 1984 to 2011.

WP holds Meet-the-People Sessions by Tanya Fong 04:47 AM May 24, 2011 SINGAPORE - As they battled the sweltering heat under the void decks, Workers' Party Members of Parliament for Aljunied GRC in Eunos, Paya Lebar and Serangoon met their residents for the first time. And while they continued with WP chief Low Thia Khiang's tradition of holding their Meet-the-People Sessions (MPS) in void decks and meeting them one-on-one, Mr Chen Show Mao and his volunteers also added a systematic touch. Organising his team into six groups, Mr Chen led the charge, while four other groups of volunteers also met residents and one group took charge of registration. Said Mr Koh Choong Yong, WP's webmaster and youth wing president, who helped out at Mr Chen's MPS: "The residents have not seen their MP for four weeks and this is the first for them with Mr Chen and the party so we expected a crowd, and decided to try out this system to streamline the process." All residents would get to meet Mr Chen and they could choose to consult the other volunteers, added Mr Koh, noting that response has been good. Spotted helping out at Mr Chen's MPS were Mr L Somasundaram, Ms Frieda Chan, members of WP's Moulmein-Kallang team in the recently-concluded General Election, as well as Mr Mohamed Fazli from the East Coast team. In total, 45 residents registered at Mr Chen's MPS. Said Mr Chen: "I'm very excited and very happy to serve because we are listening to the real problems of residents." The void deck at Block 146, Serangoon North Avenue 1, where Workers' Party chairman Sylvia Lim met residents was also abuzz, with residents bringing down their own chairs when they heard there were not enough chairs for the MPS attendees. Noting that town councils will be officially handed over to elected MPs this Friday, Ms Lim said: "Obviously, it's a new chapter for us - the Workers' Party and for me personally. Finally, we have a mandate from the people to hold a Meet-the-People session, to represent them in whatever appeals that they may have with the government department. So it's really quite something." Moulmein-Kallang candidate Toh Hong Boon and Nee Soon candidate Sajeev Kumalasan were also there to help. About 40 residents brought a range of issues from family problems to legal matters. A parent who lived in Kovan also brought her daughter to ask Ms Lim for advice on her university admission. Madam Zheng Feng Mei, 66, who sought Ms Lim for help regarding a legal matter surrounding her late father's flat, said in Mandarin: "I feel better after talking with her and that someone can help me." At Block 615, Bedok Reservoir Road, Mr Pritam Singh met 48 residents, as well as having a surprise visit from former MP for Aljunied GRC Zainul Abidin, who was at the community club nearby. Meanwhile, the party's first open house since the elections saw some 150 members of the public packing into its headquarters in Syed Alwi Road last night. The WP's MP for Hougang Yaw Shin Leong, NCMP Gerald Giam and Nee Soon GRC team leader John Yam fielded a slew of questions from the audience over one-and-a-half hours, ranging from ways they can volunteer in the WP and the party's plans. Several of them also threw up suggestions, such as setting up a Malay bureau for better outreach and building up a database on the demographic profiles of different constituencies. First MPS by Chen Show Mao https://www.facebook.com/notes/chen-show-ma...156303197768282 First MPS (May 23, 2011) by Chen Show Mao on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 12:52am I've been looking forward to this evening. Aljunied is our home and we look forward to making our home even better for every one of us. The Aljunied MPs begin our Meet-the-People sessions this week. I belong to a dedicated and enthusiastic team. I know Aljunied will be well served. Mr Low has set the bar for us in his 20 years as Hougang's MP. I will listen very intently and offer my views and assistance. I hope to do more, though. I hope to work together with the residents to find solutions to the problems that we face here in Aljunied, so that we all feel more empowered to make a difference in our lives. 阿裕尼的人民是我們的衣食父母。為他們服務是我們最基本、最核心、最重要的工作,我們一定會把它做好。 At our first MPS, many came with their good wishes, some even brought us flowers, banners, pictures, chrysanthemum tea and kindly-thought-of flax oil. On our void deck, the tables and chairs were set up expertly, and the process flowed smoothly, thanks to our many volunteers. There was still a great deal of waiting around by the residents, which we hope to reduce in the future with the help of more volunteers. A resident had too much to drink and grew boisterous, but managed to tell us most of his woes.

I read how some ADs void your warranty after you change new rims very stupid. Then i read about the US where apparently theres this Magnuson-Moss Act in their legislation which clearly stipulates that A manufacturer cannot void the warranty of a vehicle just because aftermarket parts (a tune in this case) are installed. A manufacturer can deny warranty work on a vehicle if an aftermarket emissions part is what caused the need for repair. But it cannot wholly deny a vehicle warranty. I find it ridiculous how changing the rims can affect people's warranty. Theres no customer protection here in singapore even after we pay so much.

Will your warranty be voided if you change exhaust?

yes u didnt see the title wrongly. it is really in the void deck. not in the car park but in the void deck. alright i sound like pck in ris low style. Anw. this is my sighting for today,17/10/09 at bukit batok block 140. while i was sitting at the coffee table slacking like anybody will do, i saw this Toyota Wish xxx9346x(OPC) driving up the handicapped-friendly ramp and into the void deck. this is seriously crazy. And the most retarded part is when driver tells his neighbour he drive in because he wanted to unload 2 boxes and the weather is hot. this is so irresponsible. it not just compromise the safety of the passenger but also the pedestrian. i've uploaded a pic ive taken. sorry for the poor quality. but i think this is really ridiculous. i've seen people misuse handicapped toilet or parking lots, but this is the first time is see this. i think they need to educate the people the correct way to use the ramp. if not u might just see a Peel P50 parked beside staircase next time.
