  1. Five months ago, Honda confirmed that it would be returning to F1 and it would pair up with old partner, McLaren. Now, you may start to recall Senna, Prost and that MP4/4 (above) which near dominated in 1988. Well, let's look at the impressive McLaren/Honda stat attack: between them, they had 80 GP starts, registered 53 pole positions, 44 victories, set 30 fastest laps and scored eight world championships (four drivers’ titles, four constructors’ titles). Nice. http://dai.ly/x12i4qr Quite recently, the Internet was all fired up over Honda’s simply excellent video recreating Senna’s 1989 Suzuka GP at night, using telemetry from the race and lots of lights to make something a bit spine-tingling. Anyway, Honda has just released a clip of its forthcoming Formula One engine, which is still being developed for the 2015 season where Honda will participate under a joint project with McLaren. The video below (audio only - no pun intended) is what the new turbo V6 will sound like. Have a listen, do you like it? http://dai.ly/x167tbo
  2. Renault has unveiled their new 1.6-litre F1 engine at the 2013 Paris Air Show. The direct-injected V6 unit is equipped with an exhaust-driven turbocharger, two motor generator units (MGUs) with an Energy Recovery System (ERS). For reader's information, come 2014, the current 2.4-litre V8 engines which rev to a maximum of 18,000rpm will be replaced by 1.6-litre V6 turbocharged power units revving to a maximum of 15,000rpm. The MGUs are capable of producing 160bhp while the turbocharged 1.6-litre V6 churns out approximately 600bhp, bringing the combined output to roughly 760bhp. Although the output is higher than the current V8, fuel efficiency is claimed to improve vastly by about 35 percent. On the new engine, Renault's Deputy Managing Director (Technical), Rob White, explained, "The engines remain high-revving, ultra-high output competition engines. Fundamentally the engine noise will still be loud. The engine noise is just a turbocharged noise rather than a normally-aspirated noise: you can just hear the turbo when the driver lifts off the throttle and the engine speed drops. The sound of the new generation power units is just different (from the preceding V8)". Renault has released a video alongside with the launch and interestingly, it seemed like a video promoting Adidas products at certain points.

  4. There is a new gentleman in France, and a fast one. This gentleman runs on four wheels instead of two feet. The heart of this man is a twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V6 engine which pumps out 542bhp. We are talking about the GT-R Gentleman Edition which Nissan has offered specifically for sale in France. Only 10 units will be built. Based on the GT-R Black Edition, the Gentleman Edition is available only in Gunmetal Grey. The limited edition GT-R is distinguished by a pair of 'Gentleman Edition' badging located at the front fender vents. On the inside, the super car gets amber red leather upholstery and an individually-numbered titanium plaque. The leather-stitched steering wheel, gear stick and dashboard receive a sporty two-tone treatment. Gentlemen, start your engine!
  5. Toyota has updated the JDM Mark X sedan for the 2013 model year. One of the more popular parallel-imported Toyota model in Singapore, this is the second time the Mark X receives a facelift in its life cycle. For those who feel that the facelift back in 2009 could be better, the good news is that the 2013 model has a nicer looking front fascia with a new grille that sports a more pronounced "X" logo in the centre. Sporting an aggressive design, the headlights incorporate Bi-Xenon bulbs and daytime running LED lights. The tail lights and bumper have been redesigned as well. Along with the 2013 iteration of the Mark X, Toyota has collaborated with its racing partner, Gazoo Racing, to come up with the G
  6. Recently, Evo magazine pitted the brand new Jaguar F-Type against its arch rival, the Porsche 911 Cabriolet at the Bedford Aerodrome circuit. The review is done by Tiff Needell, who is a British racing driver and television presenter. The F-type in the group test is powered by a 375bhp 3.0-litre supercharged V6. The engine is mated to an eight-speed 'Quickshift' automatic transmission. At the other corner, the Porsche 911 Cabriolet is propelled by a naturally aspirated 3.4-litre flat-six that produces 345bhp. The seven-speed manual transmission sends the power to the real wheels. Although the British car has a horsepower advantage over its German rival, it is significantly heavier by 160kg. So, who is going to come out on top ?
  7. After countless spy photos, the all new Maserati Ghibli has finally made its debut on the Internet. The world premiere of the new Italian sports sedan will take place later this month at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show. The 2014 Maserati Ghibli marks the company's first attempt at the mid sized luxury sedan market currently dominated by the likes of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5 Series and Audi A6. The Ghibli will go on sale beginning 2014 and will be available with three engines choices including two 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged engines and a 3.0-litre turbodiesel, which is the first diesel engine offered in Maserati's history. No official horsepower or torque outputs for these engines have been released at the moment. All the engines will be mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission which will send the power to the rear wheels. An optional 'Q4' all-wheel drive system is available as well. As expected, the Ghibli sports a profile that is borrowed from its bigger brother, the Quattroporte. The Ghibli has a smaller grille and a sleeker pair of head lights, further enhancing the sinister looks. On the inside, the sedan has tasteful two-tone dashboard and door panels. A large multimedia screen takes center stage at the front console with the car's name "Ghibli" proudly displayed below it.
  8. Mercedes AMG has just taken the wraps off the all new 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 engine for the 2014 Formula One season. The engine will replace the current naturally aspirated 2.4-litre V8 unit in order to comply with the revised engine formula. Mercedes' new F1 engine is expected to produce about 600bhp with the assistance of two electric motors that features a new energy recovery system (ERS). One of the motors provides an additional 161bhp to the car while the other helps to spool up the engine's turbo or topping up the batteries. Alongside with the announcement of the new engine, Mercedes AMG has also announced the extension of its supply agreement with Sahara Force India F1 team. Under the deal, Mercedes will supply Force India the internal combustion engine with ERS, transmission and all associated ancillary systems. Mercedes' revealing comes after Renault, which is the first to show off its new F1 engine under the new regulations. It develops about 750bhp.
  9. Maserati has released a teaser image of a new model that will be released at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show which will open on 19th April. What could it be? It is widely reported that the new model under the silky blue veil is the all new Ghibli saloon, which the Italian company has been working on and has been spied testing on several occasions. The covered up model shows a long hood with a prominent grille. The large wheel arches and strong bodylines at the side are clearly evident too. If this shapely model turns out to be the Ghibli, the BMW 5 Series has got something very serious to worry about. The Ghibli is expected to be powered by a 385bhp twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 or a 480bhp twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8. These engines will likely be connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission. An all wheel drive system is on the option list.
  10. Cadillac has announced that the 2014 CTS, which will be unveiled at the upcoming New York Auto Show, will be equipped with a brand new 3.6-litre twin-turbocharged engine. The power plant will be mated to a conventional torque converter eight-speed automatic transmission supplied by Japan's Aisin. The 420bhp, 582Nm lump will enable the CTS to accelerate from zero to 100km/h in approximately 4.6 seconds before hitting an estimated top speed of 274km/h. The CTS will also be offered with a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that develops 272bhp and a naturally-aspirated 3.6-litre V6 that pumps out 321bhp. The Cadillac CTS is a mid-size performance luxury car which is available in three body styles - Sedan, Coupe, and Sport Wagon. Its European rivals include the BMW 5-Series and Mercedes E-Class.The new CTS will be the latest model to be based on GM
  11. Set to be launched at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show, Lexus has released a series of photos of the 2014 Lexus IS sports sedan showing the car's exterior and interior styling. As expected, the third generation Lexus IS exterior lines follow closely to that of the LF-CC Concept, featuring a prominent spindle grille and distinctive daylight running LED. At the back, the car sports a dual exhaust system and a pair of taillights that extends to the C pillar. Lexus has not released any official information regarding the third generation IS's drivetrains. However, the IS 250 and IS 350 are expected to be powered by the 2.5-litre and 3.5-litre V6 borrowed from its bigger brother, the GS. These engines will be mated to an eight speed automatic transmission. Toyota's premium division commented that the new IS's increased width and longer wheelbase offers significantly more comfort for the rear passengers while improving luggage capacity at the same time. The car pictured here is the F Sport trim variant.

  13. Nissan has released the official pictures of the face-lifted 370Z sports car, which will go on sale across Europe after making its debut at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. As evident from the images, the makeover is rather minimal that features a redesigned bumper at the front with a couple of vertical LED DRLs. Along with the facelift, the coupe will be available with two new colors, namely Midnight Blue and Magma Red. It will also get a set of new 18 or 19-inch alloy rims with red brake calipers. The interior remains literally unchanged, apart from an upgraded Bose sound system which gets new speakers and subwoofer. Nissan has decided to keep the chassis and engine of the face-lifted model untouched. This means that the car is still powered by the 324 bhp 3.7-litre V6 unit that brings the car from 0 to 100km/h in 5.5 seconds. With a base price of around 30,000 Euro (S$47,629), the Nissan 370Z is considered to be relatively cheap. It certainly is, especially from a Singaporean
  14. Jaguar has announced it will introduce all-wheel drive system on the Jaguar XJ and XF equipped with the supercharged 3.0-litre V6 engine that delivers 335bhp and 450Nm of torque. The engine is mated to an 8-speed ZF transmission. The AWD sedans have revised suspension and steering systems and Jaguar claims that they deliver the same involving handling as their rear-drive counterparts. In dry conditions, the all-wheel drive system operates a rear bias except during step off when torque is pre-loaded to the front for a smoother start. The front drives shafts run through the sump to lower the centre of gravity. The AWD system functions hand-in-hand with Jaguar Drive Control. This allows the driver to select

  17. Porsche has announced plans to introduce the entry-level Panamera at the Beijing Motor Show on 23 April. Virtually identical to the Panamera S, the V6 Panamera is differentiated by a dual exhaust system (instead of a four-tailpipe unit), black window trim, and other minor exterior details. The new Panamera variant is powered by a 3.6 liter V6 engine with direct fuel injection, producing 300 horsepower and 400Nm of torque. The dash from 0 to 60 mph takes 6.0 seconds. The performance is nothing to shout about but its fuel consumption figure at 9.3 litres per 100km is certainly wallet friendly at the petrol station. In addition, Porsche will offer low rolling resistance tires that will reduce fuel consumption by a further 0.2 liters/100 km. Like its higher end siblings, the V6 engine will be mated to Porsche
