  1. Hi All First time i am "crowd sourcing" here....i am looking for unique corporate gift to commemorate my company 25th Anniversary next year. Budget is up to $20 or even more if worth it. Must appear quite atas one....cos other than staff we are also going to give to biz partners, etc. Anyone has any ideas or any vendor to recommend? Thanks!!
  2. Time and time again MCF members keep on comparing the prices, specs and features of the cars sold in Singapore to other countries. They lament that they have been short changed by the ADs. Local cars lack this and that when we are paying so much more. Do understand that Singapore has a unique tax structure for the cars it imports. The democratic system is also unique. So stop comparing and be happy.
  3. http://vimeo.com/49753231 Not sure if you can embed Vimeo, but different way to look at this city. Enjoy!
  4. I mean singers/musicians like Ray Charles, and the one who sings "... I just called to say, I love you..." (His name just skips my mind tonite), Jose Feliciano,... all have to wear dark glasses. From Taiwan, i like the accordian player/singer "Lee Bin Huay" who also wears dark glasses and flashes the gaps in between his teeth.... or the "Ah Gek Kia" who sits on a chair to sing. They are my favourites. WHo your favourites are? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36-NmUrQmKs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IV1ZwQZMQZ0...feature=related
  5. Not sure if there is already a list. Actually what we put forward will neither be right or wrong, there is no absolute answer coz it's subjective. Car A may be cool and unique to me but not to other bros. Never mind, lets see if there are cars which receive majority votes. For a start, what comes to mind immediately as cool? A Ferrari?? ---- to me though it's sizzling but not as cold as say a Range Rover Evogue.... maybe because there's nothing else doing what the Evogue does whereas a Ferrari has at least a few other supercars offering same type of sensations eg looks, speed, 2-seater, high performance, price.... At the point, there's nothing like the Evogue. Let us know if there's another car providing the same and what other cars you think are COOL??
  6. [extract] Graduates from Bentley Motors are staging an auction of unique collector
  7. What comes to mind is the 'ban' on clones.... I dont do clone as one account is enough for me, too many accounts only mean more passwords to remember in one signle forum.. not my cup of tea. Anyway, if a person likes to have more than one account/nick, why restrict him? Whether he 'misbehaves' with one account or a few other accounts, what difference does it make? Social / Car forums are not like online business online transactions where some degrees of 'true identity' etc have to be maintained, they are just for light hearted stuff even thought the exchanges could get heated, but hey, once the PC is off, things disappear and only reappear again after the next logon. That said, there must be some reasons/history that make 'clone' a ban-able 'offence'.... not sure if this is only unique in SGP or its common all over the world to ban clones?
  8. For once, I noticed that in this erection the issue of foreigners have have been brought about quite intensely...in media, in papers,in offices, in coffee shop and in the streets...maybe alot more. I have nothing against them.......FT Now my question is, why ALL other countries having their erection do not emphasize so much on FT...in fact not an issue at all but only our unique erection. Something must be very wrong that have created such a BIG hooha. Your feedback please....thank you

  10. It wasn't that many years ago that no one really took the engineering capabilities of Hyundai all that seriously. Thanks to recent introductions like the Genesis coupe and sedan, the Tucson and the Sonata, as well as consistently improving quality, the Korean automaker is rapidly gaining respect. Today at the 2010 New York Auto Show, Hyundai debuted its first production hybrid model for the U.S. market based on the recently launched 2011 Sonata. As we saw in the teaser photo released last Friday, Hyundai has set its hybrid apart from conventional models with an all-new front fascia. However, the changes go well beyond the new grille and headlights. The new wheels combine with extended rocker panels to improve airflow across the flanks. At the back end, the bumper cover has been reshaped with sharp creases at the corners to control the air coming off and minimize drag, and there are set of really interesting taillamps with a sort of neutron molecule-like quality to them. The body alterations drops the hybrid's projected drag coefficient from the standard Sonata's already slippery 0.28 to just 0.25. As you might suspect, the really important stuff, however, is under the skin.
  11. Volvo has unveiled the new 2.0-liter GTDi (Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection) four-cylinder engine for the S80, V70, and XC60. Featuring a turbocharger, direct injection, and twin variable camshafts, the engine offers "a unique combination of low fuel consumption, low emissions and high performance across a wide rev range." More importantly, the engine is outfitted with the world's first exhaust manifold and integrated turbine system made of sheet steel. While this sound pretty boring, Volvo says "The sheet (steel) is lighter and more compact and, above all, this system generates less heat owing to its extra insulating layer. This allows high gas flow temperature and thus more efficient combustion. " Jointly developed with Borg-Warner and Benteler Automotive (a steel component manufacturer), the engine produces 203 hp and 300 Nm (320 Nm with overboost). While Volvo declined to release full performance data, they stated a GTDi-equipped S80 would consume 8.3 liters of petrol per 100 kilometers (28 mpg). According to Magnus Jonsson, head of Product Development at Volvo Cars, "We've succeeded in making a four-cylinder engine that is as powerful as a 2.5-litre five-cylinder unit, and it's also much more energy-efficient. This is a very welcome both for those customers who want high performance as well as supreme driveability and for the environment that benefits from the improved fuel efficiency. One of the most important reasons behind the results is our new, patented turbo system that has been tailor-made for smaller energy-efficient engines." The GTDi engine will be initially launched in South-East Asia, the Netherlands, China and Japan. It will be available with a six-speed manual or a six-speed double-clutch automatic transmission.

  14. Middle-age suicide rate up: report By Lee U-Wen, TODAY | Posted: 29 August 2007 1001 hrs SINGAPORE: The figures point to a worrying trend - more men in their 40s and women in their 50s have committed suicide since 2003. In that year, there were 14 suicides for every 100,000 men in their 40s, according to government figures released yesterday. This increased to 19 per 100,000 last year. For women, there were eight suicides per 100,000 of those in their 50s in 2003. The figure rose to 13 per 100,000 last year. According to earlier media reports, 419 people took their lives last year, up from 346 in 2003. Still, Singapore's overall suicide rate for those between 45 and 54 years old is lower than that of places such as Hong Kong, Japan and Switzerland, said Community Development, Youth and Sports Minister Vivian Balakrishnan. Nonetheless, the rates reflected a "worrying trend" as each suicide was a "tragic loss" for both the family and community, he said in a written reply to a question posed by Hougang MP Low Thia Khiang. Dr Balakrishnan also revealed that an Inter-Ministry Working Group on Mental Health, chaired by Ministry of Health permanent secretary Yong Ying-I, had been formed to study ways to improve the mental and emotional resilience of Singaporeans. "I don't find the rates for those in their 40s and 50s surprising," said Dr Ang Yong Guan, chairman of the Action Group for Mental Illness. "What's paradoxical is the correlation that when the economy does well, the suicide rates go up." He added: "It could be because people start seeing those around them becoming more successful, so they start to feel affected. This is unlike a recession, where everyone does not do well." Dr Balakrishnan also noted that each suicide case "is unique" and often accompanied by a combination of problems. "Contributing factors such as personality traits, mental health and socio-cultural environment may also play a role." To mark Suicide Awareness Week, which is held between Sept 22 and 29, the Samaritans of Singapore (SOS) is organising two forums that will address issues like how to help someone with suicidal tendencies. SOS' latest annual report said that more women attempted suicide than men. Chinese women, married and between 20 and 30 years old, appeared to be the most vulnerable. Marital and family relationship problems were the main reasons. Meanwhile, the Government will pump more resources into mental health promotion and treatment. The Health Promotion Board, with other public agencies and the private sector, is expanding such programmes, said Dr Balakrishnan. - TODAY/ym -----------
  15. Will be getting my SUV in a couple of weeks, black colour. Been reading alot about Unique online. They seemed to have a high profile. Quoted $400 for my suv, a GV. My sales executive who sold me the car recommended Toughseal. Their quotation was $450. And I believe they said 3 year warranty! Any thoughts? I don't foresee myself washing my own car much, if at all, will probably go car wash as and when needed. In other words, I would like to maintain a good and healthy shine, without having to wash it myself with any maintenance liquid given by the sealant company. THANKS!!

  24. Hi all, Yesterday (Sunday), while travelling along Farrer Rd, my attention was diverted to this mid air gym... that caused me to missed a turn... so I have to go back to take a shot of it. So I made a second u-turn and I saw this 1st unique orange car in front of me. "You can get free parking at Goodwood Park Hotel carpark in Orchard?"... and I saw the 2nd unique orange car.... Why not one of these days... we go to GoodWood Park Hotel carpark for our Picanto gathering? it's really centralized! I will make the arrangement if the Picanto owners here are keen. Vincent
