quick question : anyone know the colour of the boy's shorts (not PE shorts) for Admiralty primary school ? the uniform seller does not have the size for my boy (XS) ... so am thinking of getting simillar colour(dark blue) for him instead. looking at the screen can't tell the diff between dark blue and black.

I rem vaguely in SAF Military law, its not allowed...... Lunch time, saw this stall with a guy working there, wearing SAF uniform with Lieutenant rank. I can confirm that the guy is local, not a FT trying to look like us. And i'm not disclosing this stall location. This guy must have his own reason for having to wear uniform while working in food stall. He's probably doing ICT now, and maybe got to work at same time.

I am surprised to see this! along jalan bahar yesterday, i saw a civilian clothed standing under the hot sun on the overhead bridge (next to ntu) shooting with speed camera. then along cck hi-way (kje towards bke), another 2 civilian clothed (hiding behind the metal railings & pole) with the speed camera shooting at both directions from the overhead bridge (with shelter). again, after kje into bke, a subaru tp parked by the road shoulder - around 100m away, an officer with the speed camera on stand pointing at the cars. that was in the afternoon til 6pm. worse, my colleaque told me that he kana along cck hi-way while travelling above 10kph, at 10:45pm!!! a fren told me that, on the same day, there was this similar setup on the overhead bridge (near clementi exit) along aye. then another fren also told me that, this similar setup was also seen along lornie rd 2 days ago. what's going on with the tp nowadays? so hardup for $$$ that such underhand tactics were used??? driver, pls be cautioned!

Wan Bao reported a case of suspected case of car park warden angrily taking off his uniform & helmet at Kranji industrial area to go 1-on-1 with a disgrunted lorry driver who was being booked. Fortunately the lorry driver had left already but the warden's actions caused a lot of unhappiness amongst witnesses who accused him of spoiling image and being "gangster-like". Some fellas even took down footages of the confrontation... The above reported incident reminded me of an earlier case of unhappy drivers filming & arguing with another warden who was more patient at Serangoon Gardens. His friends cheer, and they move off swiftly, not looking back. The boy has just committed an offence. But it's not against the fast-food outlet - it's against his school. Coral Secondary School forbids any student in uniform from entering the nearby White Sands shopping mall in Pasir Ris, among other things. The rule, which was imposed several years ago, also forbids students in uniform from hanging out at the neighbouring housing estate. WHY NOT LET THEM BE? 'So instead of buying lunch and going home, she has to go home to change, then go out to buy lunch and go home again.' The teachers don't seem to care that students may be with their parents. So I have to keep watching out for teachers, or my daughter may get caught.' But many students are resigned to the strict regulation. As another Sec 2 student put it: 'My mother tells me to just be careful and don't get caught.' One parent, whose son left the school three years ago, said: 'No choice lah, just tolerate for four years and be done with it.' Said a Sec 4 student: 'I don't really care any more. If I get caught again, I'll just go for detention again. It's no big deal.' Teachers are also posted to the housing estate near the school to prevent students from loitering there. A Sec 2 pupil said: 'After school hours, we can't go to the mini-mart in the HDB estate and it's just across the road.' It is understood that even students who simply walk through the estate can accosted by a patrolling teacher. This reporter saw a teacher stop a group of students there last Friday. According to a parent, the strict rules were imposed following complaints from residents in the area. Said the same parent: 'If noise is such a problem, then remove the playground. It's always noisier than the students. 'In any case, teachers aren't supposed to be security guards. I don't think MOE pays them to guard void decks.' But not everyone opposes the strict rules. One Sec 2 student said: 'I agree with the school, that loitering can lead to trouble.' One parent admitted: 'Ultimately, parents and teachers are both concerned for the pupils. Some 300,000 servicemen will eventually be wearing the new SAF combat uniform with high-tech pixelised patterns on it. The patterns replace the large green patches on the old outfit. The new material maintains the camouflage effect even when viewed through night vision devices. It is also designed to be used in war zones that extend beyond the jungle. Colonel Tan Chor Kiat, Chief of Staff, HQ 9 Division, Infantry, Singapore Armed Forces, said: "When you talk about urban terrain, you are really looking at a very unique characteristic where the opposing forces can co-exist within the same urban terrain in a very volatile system. "Consequently, the soldiers are going to get shot at a lot more often, and at a much shorter distance." According to the SAF, the new uniform increases detection time by 30 to 50 percent in the urban environment, making it harder for enemies to find their targets. It is also made from better quality fabric, which helps dissipate sweat and heat away from the body quicker, and comes with ergonomic features such as extra padding and pockets. It will be introduced to all servicemen over a three-year period starting from 2009. The first to receive the new uniforms will be recruits from the January Basic Military Training intake, as well as active personnel and NSmen in their sixth and seventh In-Camp Training years, while the rest will get theirs in 2010 and 2011. NSmen currently in their seventh to ninth years, however, will not receive the new uniform.
