  1. Went for servicing today and workshop guys told me they can't balance one of my rear wheel, probably faulty (warp). Didn't know our sg roads is so smooth till I can warp it from normal driving Can't rotate the wheel to the front since they say alignment will be off. Anyone know if theres a good and reliable place to check if the rims is really warped and probably repair it? Can't tell if theres any warping with my naked eyes. Went to a couple of shops like stamford and they can't do anything about it. If need to replace, I need to find a shop thats willing to import just 1 rim sigh. Thanks in advance.
  2. Hi guys, my IU came with the new car and is about 1 year old. Recently after deduction of fee from exiting a HDB carpark, the IU start to show Err SC. The strange thing is that it can still detect ezlink card/net flash pay. I have checked my Cashcard using a top up machine and I was able to read the balance so I assumed the Cashcard is working fine. Now I am still able to enter my season parking and able to pay for parking using ezlink card. Anyone encountered this before? I am contemplating to change the IU a not as next year, the new IU will be introduced. I don't wanna waste time going to LTA. On the other hand, as my job requires me to run around Singapore and I know some car park only accepts the old school chip cashcard. Zzz. Uploaded a video to show what I mean.
  3. Hi Bros, I'm unable to retrieve my refund of my refundable deposit on a baby seat. Merchant now telling me need proof of this and proof of that before they can refund me. The problem is, there was no terms and conditions to begin with and the campaign was to allow customers to try out the product to see if they like it or not. Have I interpreted the email wrongly? So now, in the worst case if they still refuse to refund me, what's my next course of action? Police case? Background info: "Congratulations on being selected as a recipient of our Recaro Privia Campaign. A great chance for you to get your Recaro Privia (infant car seat) for free now by providing a 150 SGD deposit! Don’t worry, your deposit is refundable upon the return of Recaro Privia within 3 months (if you do not like it) or trade-in value of $150 when you upgrade your Recaro Privia to any Stage 2 Recaro Car seat. What are you waiting for? Come redeem it now!"

Whenever I tried to shift to neutral, it does not engage properly and it feels as though the gear was stuck between gear 1 and neutral and i hear knocking sound from gearbox. I had to clutch in again and keep trying for the 2nd time or sometimes 3rd time before my car engage neutral properly. can give me a heads up what's wrong before i send my car to workshop and hold my breath for repair cost? 8. By Rennie Whang The New Paper Friday, Dec 28, 2012 SINGAPORE - You know that pink identity card (IC) in your wallet? Mr Delvis Ng, 27, had one just like that five years ago. His two younger Singapore-born siblings and his parents have pink ICs. But, at 22, he was forced to give his up. Like his mother, Mr Ng was also born in Malaysia. But while she had given up her Malaysian citizenship, he couldn't because of a missing document. Now he shuttles between Sarawak and Singapore on temporary travel documents. Mr Ng grew up in Singapore and did national service here as a storeman in the navy. According to the law here, when he turned 21, he had to decide to be a Singapore citizen or a Malaysia citizen. He opted to renounce his Malaysian citizenship before taking the Oath of Renunciation, Allegiance and Loyalty before his 22th birthday. Then it all went wrong. He was told at the Malaysian embassy that he needed his mother's Malaysian IC to renounce his citizenship. But she no longer kept her Malaysian documents after becoming a Singapore citizen in 1991. When he turned 22, he had to turn in his pink Singapore IC because he was unable to renounce his Malaysian citizenship. "It sucks not belonging anywhere," said Mr Ng. "I've lost count of the number of times I've been to the ICA (Immigration and Checkpoints Authority) and the Malaysian embassy to explain the situation to them. It didn't work," said Mr Ng, who had no documents to prove that he is a Malaysian citizen. As instructed, he also surrendered his Singapore passport and identity card at the ICA. That meant that he had no documents to get out of the country. It was also difficult for him to find work because he did not have proper identification. His life, he said, came to a standstill for about four years. "I couldn't fly anywhere, I couldn't work. I wanted to work so badly." He had previously worked as a tattoo artist in a studio here for two years, but the owner told him he had to go as she did not want to get into trouble with the authorities. "I just bummed at home, came up with tattoo designs," he said. It was only in October last year that he managed to get an emergency passport from the Malaysian embassy here. This was after his mother, Madam Doris Ak Tambi, 53, went to Kuala Lumpur in the middle of last year to try to get a passport for him - one of the five or six times she has travelled there on his behalf. She said she was rejected and told to return to the Malaysian embassy here. "I would spend whole days at the KL office. They looked at me like I was nobody, there to fool around," she said. With the emergency passport, Mr Ng went to Kuala Lumpur to get his Malaysian passport and IC - a measure which, he said, was a last resort to get to work here. To and fro Then came the days of going to and fro, spending 30 days in each country. Mr Ng's father was an engineer with an oil company when he was sent to Sarawak in 1981 and fell in love with his mother, a Sarawakian Iban. They married in a traditional Iban ceremony and at a church in 1983. Mr Ng was born in Miri while his Singaporean father was still working there in 1985. He came to Singapore with his Malaysian mother a few years later, on a shared passport. He attended Elias Park Primary School and East View Secondary School, later graduating with an engineering diploma from Temasek Polytechnic. Now, during his 30-day stays here on a tourist visa, he lives out of a suitcase in the bedroom where he grew up. His family of five, all Singaporean save for him, have lived in a Pasir Ris five-room flat for the last 17 years. Both his 21-year-old brother, who is in NS, and 17-year-old sister, a private school student, were born here. When time's up for Mr Ng, he leaves for Miri, Sarawak, where he was born. He counts the days till he can return. Flying to Miri is $200, and lodging and transport come to another $900 every month. He works as a tattoo artist in Miri but his mother ends up sending money because he does not earn enough to cover his expenses. "I've spent all my savings. I'm supposed to spend it when I'm 55, not now," he said. "It's tough because my mother (a cancer survivor) is here, my father is here, my friends. "Over there, I know only a few colleagues. Time passes very slowly." There is hope for him though. About a year ago, Mr Ng approached his MP, Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, at a Meet-the-People Session and obtained a letter which he took to the ICA, he said. He was later able to apply for permanent residency (PR), he said. While waiting to become a PR, Mr Ng has been trying to fly back for special occasions - including his brother's NS enlistment in October last year. "(My brother's) passing-out parade is in January, I hope to see him then," said Mr Ng. As Mr Ng's father, who is now with a gas company, travels frequently, Madam Tambi says she misses her eldest son. "I don't understand, he was a Singaporean from young. Even his father served NS. "When it gets to his second week, I start to cry. As the eldest, I hope he takes care of the family. What happens when his family falls sick?" Mr Ng is hoping he will get his PR status. Then maybe, a pink identity card again. This is just so wrong..................

  10. Work-life balance is something good-to-have and by all means introduce it island-wide if possible. But in view of the hectic schedules most of us have, it is not easy to achieve in reality even if our employers are open to it. Ultimately one must decide what is more important: to strike a good balance by seeking a less-stressing i.e. less-paying job or be adverse to the whole concept and continue slogging till you get what you want? From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1234058/1/.html S'poreans unable to enjoy work-life balance: survey Posted: 29 October 2012 1112 hrs SINGAPORE: Workers have identified overloading of work and high-pressure deadlines as the main reasons for not being able to achieve work-life balance in Singapore. A recent survey on work-life balance in Singapore found that nearly nine out of 10 workers surveyed worked beyond their official hours. Beyond working hours, 70 per cent chose to complete unfinished work in the office while the remaining 30 per cent chose to bring work home. The survey by recruiter Jobstreet.com also found that only 30 per cent of the respondents claimed that their companies had initiatives in place to promote work-life balance. 45 per cent indicated that their companies pay lip service to work-life balance with policies in place just for show. Respondents suggested corporate tax relief and enforcement of policies as steps that the government can take to encourage more companies to promote work-life balance at the workplace. About 650 workers and 135 employers participated in the survey that was conducted in September. - CNA/xq

But Hougang grassroots adviser Desmond Choo looks set to clinch what is believed to be the country's first sexism award, in 'honour' of a person or organisation that has done the greatest disservice to gender equality. The award is the tongue-in-cheek brainchild of the Association of Women for Action and Research (Aware), which will dish it out on Oct 17 during its fundraising dinner at the Grand Hyatt Hotel to celebrate its 26th anniversary. The women's advocacy group will give three other awards to recognise those who have promoted gender equality causes. The sexism award, called the Alamak Award, has five nominees. Nominations were made by the public on Aware's website over a six-week period that started last month. Copyright

  13. Anybody else experience this problem? I can't get any traffic info!
  14. Was there any reason given for this? To not allow turning in this direction? Because it doesn't really make sense to me....
  15. Every morning, there is a queue of cars waiting to turn left from Jurong West Ave 2 to Corporation road. When the traffic light is red, the queue cannot move because cars turn in from the opposite side. This is expected. When the traffic light is green, the queue still cannot move because cars bypass the left-turn slip road and turn in from the junction instead. Well done, folks! Guess what, I'm going to spoil your party and write in to Traffic Police. This is a $70 donation if I'm not wrong -- making a left-turn where not allowed.
  16. Wishing all bros a prosperous new year, My car is unable to start and the dealer workshop will only open on Fri. The problem just happened without any symptom. It is not likely a battery problem as previously I am able to start the engine with a single crank. The strange part is that the remote alarm unlocking mechanism has also failed. Any advice on how to resolve this problem or at least last to Friday.
  17. Hi, i would appreciate if the MCF forummers are able to provide some sort of advice. I paid a $1000 deposit for a resale flat and signed an agreement with the owners of the flat. It seems that the flat cannot be sold at the moment as it has not reached 5yrs yet. The owners made an appeal to HDB and got rejected. I was supposed to pay an additional $4000 dollars but my cheque bounced. i have since issued the owners with a new cheque which they have since refused to bank in. Am i able to seek any avenue of redress ? Do you think i should sue the owners for my opportunity losses ? Thank you all

  22. Hi bros/sis's, I know MCF does not stand for My Computer Forum but I am in desperate need for help and I hope that there computer experts here. Tried asking for help in Hardwarezone but so far no replies yet. Here goes the story.... Today, when I turned on my computer, there was no response at all. I had this problem last month and found that it was due to faulty power supply and got it replaced. But this time, the situation is a bit different. The power button was totally useless in powering up the PC. So I pull out the power plug to examine the power cable and change to another power socket. This time the moment I switch in the power on the socket, I could hear the fans running and the CD players and other LEDs lighting up for a very short while. The monitor screen showed the BIOS checking screen and after 1 or 2 seconds, the PC went dead. This problem is now happening all the time and I can't boot it up at all. This time doesn't seem like power supply fault at all. I don't what went wrong - motherboard, RAM or something else.... My PC was self assembled and I am basically on my own. Hope that someone will help soon as I need to use it urgently. Thanks a million!
