  2. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/woman-gives-birth-new-baby-5665572 A new mum has given birth to twins who have two different fathers. The incredible case was revealed after the woman, identified only as T.M., named her current boyfriend as the father of her twins. But T.M. admitted before maternity papers were signed that she had actually slept with a different man a week after she believed she conceived with her boyfriend. A paternity test was carried out and it was revealed that the two men had each fathered one of the twins, who are now toddlers. It seems medically impossible, but a woman can give birth to twins with two fathers when she has sex with two different men in the same week. In a process known as heteropaternal superfecundation, the rare incident occurs when a woman releases two eggs during her menstrual cycle and different men fertilise one egg each. It is a more common occurrence when the same dad fertilises two eggs during separate incidences of sex.

  5. Sounds like a hoax but who knows. ----- By Agence France-Presse, Updated: 10/06/2011 Two mountain peaks going cheap in Austria Are you the outdoors type, a die-hard hill walker with cash to spare? Then you won't want to miss out on the chance to buy your very own mountain peaks in the Austrian Alps. Tweet Two 2,000-metre (6,500-feet) mountain peaks in eastern Tyrol -- the "Grosse Kinigat" and the "Rosskopf" -- are up for sale for just 121,000 euros ($175,800) for the pair. On its website, Austria's federal real estate company, the Bundesimmobiliengesellschaft or BIG, proudly boasts that the two peaks offer the "most stunning views of the Carnic Alps and are popular destinations for mountain climbers and hikers". Nevertheless, the decision to put them up for sale has angered locals. "It's a mystery to me why they're wanting to sell the peaks right now," the mayor of the tiny village of Kartitsch, Josef Ausserlechner, told the Austrian news agency APA. "In Greece, they're selling off islands. In Austria, it's the mountains," he fumed. Ausserlechner insisted the village of Kartitsch has right of first refusal, but could only afford to pay a symbolic price of "a couple of thousand of euros". Interested buyers have until July 8 to place their bids and, according to the regional daily Kleine Zeitung, 20 people had already done so. But whoever the new owners turned out to be, "they won't be allowed to fence them off. The public and hikers have right of way," mayor Ausserlechner insisted.

  8. "Hyundai Motor Company plans to expand its turbo engine family with the introduction of a brand new 1.6L T-GDI turbo engine. Based on the existing 1.6L GDI four-cylinder engine which currently propels the Korean market Hyundai Avante, the unit uses a twin-scroll turbocharger which improves the engine response and performance. At the same time, the turbocharger increases efficiency at low engine speeds, improving combustion efficiency and lowers emissions. The 1.6L turbocharged four-cylinder engine generates 208 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 265Nm of torque. The output puts the power plant on par with the VW Group's 2.0 liter TFSI unit that goes into the Golf GTI and Audi A3 models. According to Hyundai, the all-new 1.6L T-GDI turbo engine will be available in the new Hyundai Veloster sports coupe starting from 2012. Going forward, it will also appear in the upcoming 2013 Hyundai ix30 and next generation Kia cee

  11. I was among those caught by a traffic jam along that road at around 6.00pm. Both Lane 1 and Lane 2 occupied by damaged cars. Lane 1 chain collission and Lane 2 chain collision in parallel almost exact duplicate. I believe there was no casualty, just more business for tow-truck businesses. Anyone of you involved?

  13. The lawsuit claims that the twin-turbo N54 engine is defective. A collection of owners in California recently filed a class action lawsuit against BMW. The lawsuit alleges that BMW systematically concealed information from the public and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) regarding defective fuel pumps and their risks to consumers. The fuel pump that they use is a high-pressure unit andnd it's known to fail unexpectedly. This causes the ECU to go into "limp mode", which translates into a significant and sudden loss of power. The lawsuit also alleges a design flaw with the turbochargers. While BMW claims that the twin-turbo inline 6 has no turbo lag. Owners report significant throttle delays, along with "strange noises" coming from the engine during acceleration. BMW issued the following statement about the turbo problem; "The turbo complaint is much less widespread and we have had a service bulletin in place since 2007 to address it. In an effort to address specific noise concerns, BMW updated the turbocharged engine software on 335i/xi and 535i/xi models built from June 2006 through March 2008. The updated software causes a small amount of increased "turbocharger lag" under certain circumstances and, while not substantial, the lag may be perceptible to the most sensitive BMW drivers. X6, 135i, and 3 Series/5 Series vehicles from March 2008 production onward are not affected." About the fuel pump problem, they said; "BMW has discovered that certain 2007-2010 model year vehicles may experience partial failure of the High-Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) which is part of the direct fuel injection system on certain 1 Series, 3 Series, 5 Series, X6, and Z4 models. Specifically, vehicles powered by the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 engine (internally dubbed "N54") are affected. Symptoms include long engine starting times and sometimes the illumination of the Service Engine Soon lamp in the instrument cluster, possibly accompanied by reduced engine performance (Fail Safe operation). As a result, BMW will extend the emissions warranty coverage period to 10 years or 120,000 miles, whichever comes first, on affected vehicles in all 50 States. If the HPFP fails during the extended warranty coverage period, BMW will replace it with a newer-production version. Customers who experience long starting times or notice the Service Engine Soon lamp should contact an Authorized BMW Center to schedule a service appointment." This isn't the first lawsuit over the N54 engine. However, this one is attempting to force BMW into to recall. The effected cars were made from 2006-2010, and include the 135i, the 335i, the 535i, the X6 and the Z4. This includes the AWD versions too. http://www.sgcarmart.com/news/article.php?AID=3829

  17. In and interview with British mag Autocar, Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa hinted that the next Enzo will come with a twin-turbo, direct injection V8. Currently, Ferrari's flagship model is served by a 6.0 liter V12. Felisa was short on details but did say that the storied Italian supercar maker had ruled out rumors of producing a 6-cylinder power plant until there is a change in customer attitudes towards smaller engines. "The perception today is that the number of cylinders equates to the possibilities of the car. That is why we are developing hybrid technology that can be applied to our V8 and V10 cars," Felisa is quoted as saying in the Autocar story. The Ferrari chief also said that the automaker would not be expanding its use of carbon fiber materials across its model range - as is being done at competitors such as McLaren, BMW and Mercedes. Although, it will be used for the new Enzo since it is a low volume production car not used for everyday driving. "The fact is that nobody today has a real understanding of what happens if you damage a carbon fiber structure," said Felisa. The next Ferrari Enzo is due in 2012. Source: autocar.co.uk
  18. It's been over five years since the E90 BMW 3 Series was introduced, and according to Automobile, the all-new bread-and-butter Bimmer is set to hit the market in 2012. Codenamed F30, the next 3er is reportedly set to employ the F20 1 Series' front strut layout instead of the 5, 6 and 7 Series double wishbone arrangement. But the new underpinnings aren't the real news. Five body styles will make up the 2012 3 Series: The standard sedan, wagon, coupe and convertible (each coming out about six months after the former's introduction), along with a Gran Turismo model in 2013. The slant-roof five-door we've reported on previously will take cues from the 5 Series that shares the same name, but will feature a one-piece hatch unlike it's bigger brother's two-piece unit. Automobile also reports that the next two-door will feature bespoke sheetmetal with a more canted windshield, lower roofline and sculpted flanks, while the convertible will continue to use a retractable hardtop instead of a canvas roof. Naturally, the M division is hard at work on the next M3, and it's likely to drop the 420-horsepower V8 in favor of a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six putting out around 450 hp. There's a slight
  19. i know in a twincharged engine, usually there is a supercharger and a turbo charger which gives you instaneous power from 1-5k rpm and then the power band dips , then the turbo takes over. Is there such a thing that in a twin turbo setup, there is a small turbo and a big turbo suppose they could be engineered in such a way that the small turbo spools up instaneously for takeoff and when it reaches the point that the powerband dips, the turbo stops spooling and the bigger turbo takes over? thanks

  21. Aug 7, 2008 Nepal doc to S'pore: Finish what you started Twins' doctor says Jamuna should have cranioplasty performed here By Salma Khalik, Health Correspondent A TOP Nepalese neurosurgeon has accused Singapore doctors of failing to provide after-care treatment for former conjoined twins Ganga and Jamuna Shrestha. Dr Basant Pant, who heads the neurosurgery departments in two private Kathmandu hospitals, told The Straits Times in an interview in the Nepalese capital on Sunday: 'Have the twins been given the best care? The answer is 'no'.' The girls had not received the physiotherapy and occupational therapy they needed, he said. Also, he charged, Singapore doctors had broken their promise to bring the girls back to Singapore for cranioplasty, an operation to repair their skulls. 'This was absolutely promised by Singapore, but it has never taken place.' In reference to Ganga's death from pneumonia last week, he said that, 'at the very least', Singapore owed her surviving twin that cranioplasty. Reacting to his comments, Singapore General Hospital (SGH), whose doctors performed the 2001 surgery to separate the twins, said the Singapore and Nepalese medical teams had agreed that if the girls needed follow-up treatment that could be given safely in Nepal, it should be done there. 'SGH would supplement the local team if required,' its spokesman said. SGH said its doctors and rehabilitation therapists had drawn up with Dr Pant the twins' treatment and rehabilitation plans to be carried out in Nepal, and had tracked their progress in the initial years. 'Unfortunately, the family did not comply with the care plan and therapy,' the spokesman said. But the twins' family said things are not that simple. Jamuna's physiotherapy sessions at one of Nepal's public hospitals were stopped - despite the nominal fee charged - as the family could not afford the 200 rupee (S$4.40) taxi fare. It would have taken a chunk of the 8,000 rupees her mother Sandhya Shrestha earns as a teacher. Taking the crowded public bus is not an option because Jamuna cannot walk and has to be carried. She needs the cranioplasty for a chance at leading an independent life. The 2001 operation had left her and her sister with part of their brains unprotected by their skulls. The hole on Jamuna's head leaves her brain exposed to external pressure, which has affected her blood circulation and health. Since 2001, the family has returned here once - in 2005 - to East Shore Hospital, where Dr Keith Goh, a member of the 2001 team, now practises. That year, Jamuna was treated for her weak leg and Ganga had fluid drained from her head. Referring to Jamuna's possible return here soon, SGH said: 'Should the family decide to seek treatment for Jamuna at SGH subsequently, we will work in consultation with the Nepalese medical team on the appropriate treatment.' Madam Sandhya, still reeling from the loss of Ganga, wants Jamuna's operation done here. It is what she feels will give the girl the best chance. SGH is the custodian of the $58,000 that is left of the $660,000 raised in 2001 for the twins' medical expenses. It will release funds only for 'appropriate' treatment for Jamuna. It reimbursed Bir Hospital in Kathmandu in May 2004 for Ganga's scans, and East Shore Hospital in 2005. Dr Pant, who does about 400 operations on brains and spines each year, said cranioplasty can be done in Nepal, but that Singapore should finish what it started. Noting that the people here gave so generously in 2001 because they felt for the family and wanted to do the best by them, he said: 'This has not been done. Singapore started the show, so it should finish it.' [email protected]

  23. Twin separated in marathon operation dies: newspaper AFP - Wednesday, July 30SINGAPORE, July 30, 2008 (AFP) - One of two conjoined Nepalese twins separated in a marathon operation in Singapore seven years ago has died in their homeland, a newspaper reported Wednesday. ADVERTISEMENT Ganga Shrestha, eight, died after admission to hospital on Monday with meningitis, The Straits Times reported. "I will always remember her feisty spirit... At least now, her spirit is free of her disabled body," Singaporean neurosurgeon Keith Goh was quoted as saying by the newspaper. He was one of the lead surgeons on the team which separated Ganga and her twin sister, Jamuna, during a 97-hour operation in 2001, the paper said. The children were joined at the head when they were born. Singaporeans raised more than 660,000 dollars (now 484,000 US) to help the babies, and the surgeons waived their charges. The operation left Ganga with brain damage and Jamuna unable to walk, the newspaper said, adding that three years ago they returned to Singapore for additional treatment. Then they returned to Nepal. Jamuna drags herself around on her arms. Schools in Kathmandu have refused to enrol her because part of her brain is still unprotected by bone, the newspaper reported. It quoted her grandfather as saying she finds it hard to accept the death of her sister, and cannot stop crying.
