  1. Ever boarded a plane to fly off and be confronted with a metal chair and a missing seat cushion? I admit this has never happened to me until our recent experience on Turkish Airlines. We were flying from Singapore to Istanbul and onward to Copenhagen. This was on the Istanbul to Copenhagen leg. We had to take an airport bus to board the plane. It was a nice and sunny morning. We got on board, walked to our seats, and were confronted with a dirty detached seat cushion on a metal seat. Not a great way to start a flight, I reckon. I first alerted a male cabin crew, who didn't seem too surprised. But he disappeared. Really! Then I alerted a female cabin crew, who said she will help sort this out. True enough, she came back within a few minutes with a new cushion and fitted it. Well done! Here is a short video clip of the dirty cushion experience. To be fair, the rest of the flight and also the earlier leg was pretty good. We were on a holiday and headed to Copenhagen. Originally we planned to book SQ for the 4 of us, but the option of Turkish Airlines came along and we could save almost $2K for the 4 of us. So we decided to give Turkish a try. Here are the videos of our experience. At Changi Airport, when we checked in, I was informed by the check-in staff that I could use the SATS Premier Lounge (even though I was flying in Economy) because I was Star Alliance Gold status. Well, I recently turned Star Gold and I don't even have my card yet, so I wasn't expecting this. Anyway, it was great, though I could only bring one guest. At the lounge entrance, I asked nicely if I could bring both my kids and the reception staff kindly agreed. My wife stayed outside though, she went shopping. Later on, I found out that SATS Premier Lounges were also Priority Pass lounges, so we could have used the lounge, albeit for a fee. Here is the video of the lounge, which is used by a good number of airlines. I guess this is called a contract lounge. They had a decent hot food selection, not as good as the SilverKris, but good enough for most. There was the signature laksa, which tasted good. Also they had 3 OSIM massage chairs at one corner. Cool!
  2. Who tried Turkish Ice Cream before? Is it nice? And did anyone managed to grab their ice cream in the first try?
  3. Trabzonspor 1-2 Liverpool Europa League, 3rd round qualifier, 2nd leg August 27th, 2010 Liverpool left it late to overcome Turkish side Tranbzonspor in their final Europa League qualifier on Thursday night. The Reds, leading 1-0 from the home leg last week at Anfield, went behind after just 4 minutes when Gutierrez scored from close range after Dirk Kuyt had given the ball away to allow Tranbzon in. It looked like that goal was going to send the game into extra time and the possibility of penalties until the 84th minute when Glen Johnson
  4. A Turkish singer just set a land speed record, making him the fastest man on the planet when his Ferrari F430 averaged 182 miles per hour during a record run down a runway at an airport in eastern Turkey. Now, if 182 mph doesn't sound fast enough to set a world land speed record, know that the driver was blind... and alone in the car. Metin Senturk became the fastest blind man driving solo with his Guinness-verified speed of 292.89 kilometers per hour (182 mph). Senturk was followed down the runway by his driving coach, former rally driver Volkan Isik, who relayed instructions to Senturk via radio. The driver is a pop singer in Turkey who has been blind since the age of three. He said that the record run, "was really hard, like a dance with death." When Senturk emerged from his borrowed car, he was told by the Guinness people that he had bested the old record of 284 kph, held by a British bank manager. In case you were wondering, this unaccompanied record is about 20 mph slower than the record set by Hein Wagner of South Africe, who had his coach riding shotgun when he drove a Mercedes-Benz SL65 Black Series to a tick over 200 mph last October.

  6. it's a F1 weekend once again.... dun most of us know it already when we heard of "VPower going at the price of 98" AGAIN this week, the 'circus' is at Istanbul Park Circuit. it is slightly over 5km in length, but the most tricky bit of this track is that it is of anti clockwise. driver will have to prepare carefully for this weekend, else necks will suffer immensely. also "the track is best known for the challenge presented by Turn Eight, a triple-apex left-hander that seems to go on and on. it is taken around 250 km/h generates arguably the highest G-forces drivers see over the season. " however, the past few weeks i had been really disappointed with the F1 circus. it is really a circus... 1stly, we did not see more racing than last year with all the car design changes, did we? then again, i reserve my judgment on that, as most cars are still trying to match Brawn's clever deign. once, teams do catch up, i really do hope there are really more true blooded racing from all teams. 2nd, is there really going to be a F1 2010 season? i just can't believe at a time when the sports shld be doing everything it can to promote itself, it just turn ard and shot itself in both feet. one foot for the ugly cars, and another for all the politics involving cost cutting and what have you. Max Mosley has even came out and said this:
