Mercedes has been coming out with several new variants using smaller (sub 2.0L) engine for its passenger vehicle lineup of late and there seems to be no end to the trend, in view of tighter emissions and fuel economy requirements by EU and other countries. I have to admit that I am surprised when I learnt about the "new" C160 at the beginning of this year and E180 shortly after that, both having a 1.5L inline 4 turbo-charged unit under it hood, producing 129ps / 210Nm and 156ps / 250Nm respectively. And the naive me thought these are the limits. I am wrong, as the CLS260 has just been introduced in China, and spotted the same 1.5L inline 4 unit under the hood, but producing 184ps / 280Nm this time with a help of the mild hybrid setup. Coupled with a 9 speed automatic transmission, it can accelerate to 100 km/h in 8.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 km/h. Fuel consumption is rated at 7.2 L/100 km (13.89 Km/L), which is decent to say the least, for a car of this size (~5m in length) and weight (~1.8 ton). While the spec look very impressive for this entry variant, but taking into consideration that the selling price is unlikely to be more than $30K different from the CLS350 due to COE, VES and other vehicle taxes, while saving in road tax is "negligible" since the CLS350 is actually powered by a 2.0L turbo engine (instead of 3.0L as many have expected), it is not a good deal after all. What is your take? Will we be seeing a 1.5L S280 soon, or even a GLS300? I sincerely hope it will not happen. BTW, rumor mill is saying that the next C43 AMG and E53 AMG will be using a 2.0L unit... ...

i went to test drive on sat, sharing my views below Likes - exterior design - size of car, notable presence on the road - sound proofing - boot size is huge - space for rear seat passengers is huge - front sequential turn signals looks cool; would really loveit if they used sequential for back and side signals as well - sunroof Dislikes - touchscreen on dashboard is pathetically small. those in japan seem much bigger ( )- from the boot, there is no lever/button for making the rear seats lie flat - no safety options: blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic monitoring, tyre deflation monitoring - they removed the panoramic view monitor, which i think is available in the japanese brochures - lag before turbo engine kicks in Some excellent reviews here from Richard too: http://www.mycarforum.com/topic/2705478-harrier-2017/page-7?do=findComment&comment=6159941

hi bros and sisters in mycarforum... i was wondering if anyone was driving the above mentioned car... it's a 1.5L MIVEC turbo producing stock 145bhp, mated to 6CVT and does 0-100kph in 8.5s... i'm considering getting a 2nd hand one, probably a 4.5yrs old selling at $38,000... it's got auto headlamps, auto tailgate, and keyless entry which can fold the mirrors, and close all windows remotely when outside the car... may i know if there are problems with the car and how to settle it?? thanks.

The 5th generation of the Audi S8 is here. Codenamed D5, the king of mixing luxury with performance, is back. Engine, Transmission, and Performance The S8's sole engine choice is a potent one: a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine making 563 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive is standard, and the transmission is an eight-speed automatic. Audi claims a top speed of 155 mph, and there are fuel-saving systems, too, including cylinder deactivation and a mild-hybrid setup with a small electric motor and battery. At our test track, the S8 blasted to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds. An active suspension system can control each wheel individually to improve ride quality, and it is tuned differently than that of the standard A8, promising improved cornering prowess thanks to reduced body roll. Audi also includes equipment such as a torque-vectoring rear differential and rear-wheel steering to increase agility; powerful carbon-ceramic brakes are optional.

What? = ARF only 6k - CON Poor specced vs Korea model - CON Questionable reliability (Especially IVT) Harrier G-Grade Turbo 2.0T ($108k+-?) - PRO Toyota reliability (hopefully, i was scalded by lexus once😂) and resale value - PRO not tried yet but i heard the soundproofing is almost lexus like. as a previous lexus owner i surely miss NVH - PRO Although looks older but comes w nappa leather and interior build quality inside seems pretty good ! - CON Loses out on cost for petrol, insurance, road tax vs the avante (esp petrol n insurance) - CON Infotainment screen.. WOW! a trip back to 2005 - CON its used vs new, not sure how big of a difference it would make. Harrier turbo owners please advice about the infotainment screen, sound system (stock), FC , NVH and etc... love to hear your thoughts Anyway safe driving bros Jon !

When if comes to overtaking, we bet this Honda Civic driver is one of the most skilled drivers on our road if not the most skilled. This happened on Christmas eve at around 11:45pm along Bartley East Rd in the area of Kaki Bukit towards the CTE and we must say we are impressed with the precision of the overtake. As you can see from the clip, the matt-greenish Civic Turbo came out of nowhere and moved across from one lane to the other with not much room to spare, before proceeding to accelerate away briskly. In 2010, the first generation Auris was the first high volume, core Toyota model in Europe to benefit from hybrid drive, and now it will be the first model to offer this choice of hybrid powertrains. The current Auris powertrain line-up consists of five conventional engines and one hybrid powertrain. DESIGN ‘Our primary goal with the new Auris was to create the most bold and dynamic hatchback on the market, without compromising on interior usability,’ explains Simon Humphries, Executive General Manager, Toyota Global Design. ‘Harnessing the low centre of gravity afforded by the TNGA layout, the vehicle is light and agile in the side view, yet as we move to the rear, the architecture transforms to create a solid, wide and low stance that is absolutely critical to the European market.’ Longer and lower than its predecessor, the new Auris adopts a significantly more dynamic design and more striking frontal styling. Overall length has increased by 40 mm, all of which has been absorbed within a longer wheelbase. Importantly, the overall height of the new hatchback has been reduced by some 25 mm, whilst the cowl height of the vehicle is a significant 47 mm lower than that of the current model. The result is a sleeker shape and a more attractive, lower bonnet, which in turn improves safety by giving the driver a clearer forward view. The new frontal styling is a further evolution of Toyota’s Under Priority Catamaran and Keen Look design philosophies. Beneath the curved front edge of a flatter, clamshell bonnet, the narrow upper grille incorporates a central Toyota logo and, at its extremities, new, all-LED headlamp clusters with integral Daytime Running Lights (DRL). The surround to the large, trapezoidal lower grille projects powerfully forward of the bonnet front edge and upper grille in a pronounced step, and is less pointed and more vertical than before, resulting in a reduction to the vehicle’s front overhang of some 20 mm. The sides of the grille surround form a trademark, catamaran hull shape at the front corners of the new Auris, emphasising the vehicle’s 30 mm increase in width, and its broad, sporting stance. Beneath the grille, the surround splits to clearly define the lip of a front spoiler, the edges of which are angled upwards to create a zone between the spoiler and the catamaran hull form, in which are housed LED foglamps. The grille mesh itself is of a new design, which is more articulate and refined than the classic honeycomb finish. The new rear design is more rounded than before in plan form, strengthening the visual relationship between the front and rear of the vehicle. An increase in rear windscreen rake of some 14 degrees and the muscular hip adopted above the rear wheel arch combine to make the overall appearance of the vehicle rear more compact, despite an increase in rear overhang of 20 mm. A roof spoiler is fitted, as standard, on all model grades. The rear all-LED lamp clusters feature light guides designed to emphasise the new Auris’ wide, planted rear stance. And the rear bumper styling echoes the frontal Under Priority Catamaran design; a thin lower lip here incorporating twin chrome inserts. The new Auris’ dynamic design is further emphasised through an optional bi-tone colour scheme, which combines the body colour with a black finish to the roof and all glazing pillars. TLDR: New Corolla hatchback replacing the Auris that was sold here briefly by BM with a 1.6 until new COE Cat A had power cap. Uses same TNGA platform as new Prius for lower CG, better handling etc. In the UK, uses the same 1.2 turbo as outgoing Auris/Current CHR, 1.8 hybrid (current CHR/Prius) and NEW 2.0 180hp hybrid. As both 1.8/2.0 hybrid are Cat B, let's see if BM brings which one in. 1.2 turbo is certain if CHR turbo sells well. Can't wait for sedan and JDM hatch (this one is made in UK)

Following Skoda with it new Octavia, the new Jetta seems to be much larger than the existing model, and likely to hit close to 4.7m in length. Design wise, I am seeing hints of Audi (headlight), Honda (grille) Ford (C pillar) and Hyundai (taillight). Hopefully the car look better in metal, just like the current B8 Passat. Photos were rumored to be taken at VW Mexico manufacturing facilities. In case you still don't believe this is the new Jetta, but some other VW model for Brazil or China, here are some spy shots of the new Jetta taken earlier.

The new generation of the Audi A5 will be officially revealed on June 2 with the company live-streaming the event online. The two-door version of the A4 is expected to be lighter by up to 100kg (220 pounds) and offer more room inside, courtesy of a longer wheelbase. The engine range will mirror that of the A4 as well, meaning a wide selection of turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, with more expensive versions coming with either a petrol or a diesel V6 turbocharged unit. Audi has been teasing its new coupe with a series of animated gifs on its social media for a while now, revealing design details like the front headlight treatment and the curvy rear quarters of the bodywork. Features like the Virtual Cockpit digital display is also present as expected. Apart for the two-door bodystyle, the new A5 will also get a convertible and a Sportback variant. Audi has been caught testing the range-topping RS5 which is reportedly going to use a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 unit in the place of the naturally aspirated 4.2-litre V8, with an output close to 500hp.

Was chatting with a fellow brother and we were arguing about how having turbo will contribute to FC. I was on the camp that having turbo, FC friendliness will only be achieved if the required gear-ratio vs RPM is achieved. He was on the camp that turbo is FC friendly regardless, only the max BHP is the difference at the correct gear-ratio vs RPM. so, just to generate some chit chat. i am bored. share your views.

Now, I am refering to this sexy sport back (which certainly ressemble the new Honda FC Civic in some angles)... Hyundai Lafesta (currently only available in China) Hyundai is expanding its presence in China with a new sedan developed exclusively for this market and called LAFESTA (Italian for Festival). Unveiled at the 2018 Beijing Auto Show recently, it debuts the brand’s ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ design philosophy, which was announced at the Geneva Motor Show, in March. The new Lafesta, "embraces the growing younger generation," says Hyundai. The small sedan embodies Hyundai’s new design approach of "Sensuous Sportiness" with an aggressive fascia highlighted by a version of Hyundai’s corporate Cascading grille, sleek headlights, LED daytime running lights, and gloss black features. One can see that some of the key styling features of the Hyundai LAFESTA include a large grille at the front with chrome trim, curvy lines across the bonnet and lower side of the doors and a sloping roofline behind the C pillars. That’s kind of similar to the latest Santa Fe, but on a deeper scale. “Building on our long history of creating distinctive and sporty character in vehicles, we will create a new era for Hyundai design. ‘Sensuous Sportiness’, the new theme for Hyundai design reflects our goal to build a beloved brand by creating vehicles with heightened emotional value”, commented Hyundai Styling’s chief, SangYup Lee. Its cabin is described as being “spacious” and “driver-focused”, equipped with quality materials, new technology and numerous driving assistance systems. The new Hyundai LAFESTA will go on sale in China in the fourth quarter of 2018, and the automaker promises to detail it after its official launch. Power comes from a turbocharged 1.6-liter GDi engine, which could be shared with the Kona Premium GT. It’s married to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, just like the one in the subcompact SUV, where it develops 177PS (175hp / 131kW) and 265Nm (195lb-ft) of torque.
