  2. This boy's story managed to warm my cholesterol laden heart of cold concrete. So nice to see childhood innocence still exists in a sea of cynical adults. Someone should give him a Tiger when he turns 18.
  3. Anybody want to watch the YOG torch relay? You can see the schedule [HERE]. Ominously, they will be also running on Friday the 13th Moi saw the torch relay during the Sydney Olympics. Back then, crowds were lining the route and some people were even sitting on top of bus stops.
  4. what c*ck reasons did this Sec-Gen give? ST 2 May ======== THIS is in reply to Mr Khoo Lih-Han's comment last Saturday, and Mr Chiang Ging Seng's yesterday, on the Olympic Games torch not stopping over in Singapore. The Beijing 2008 Olympic Torch Relay is a prelude to the Beijing Olympic Games 2008, and therefore all rights to the torch relay belong to the Beijing Organising Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad. In planning the route for the torch relay, the committee decides on its theme, duration and distance, as well as the cities through which the torch will pass. The route was finalised and announced by the committee on April 26 last year. It is understandable that Singaporeans would have liked to have the honour of having the torch relay pass through Singapore. We have long been strong supporters of the Olympic movement, its principles and values. However, we all know we must respect the integrity of the planning process and the decisions made by the Beijing Organising Committee. Chris Chan Secretary-General Singapore National Olympic Council
  5. Was watching all these news about the olympic torch going thru' 1 cuntry to another. How come never come thru' sinkie land...I thought OLD man quite reputable wat? Any forumers can highlight on this matter...thanks.
  6. After reading thru the origin of the Torch Relay, I am totally turn-off with the development of current one. Do you see any similarity here ? http://www.ushmm.org/wlc/article.php?lang=...duleId=10007451 I quote : "On August 1, 1936, Hitler opened the Games of the 11th Olympiad. Musical fanfares directed by the famous composer Richard Strauss announced the dictator's arrival to the largely German crowd. Hundreds of athletes in opening day regalia marched into the stadium, team by team in alphabetical order. Inaugurating a new Olympic ritual, a lone runner arrived bearing a torch carried by relay from the site of the ancient Games in Olympia, Greece. The 1936 Games were the first to employ the torch run. Each of 3,422 torch bearers ran one kilometer (0.6 miles) along the route of the torch relay from the site of the ancient Olympics in Olympia, Greece, to Berlin. Former German Olympian Carl Diem modeled the relay after one that had been run in Athens in 80 B.C. It perfectly suited Nazi propagandists, who used torch-lit parades and rallies to attract Germans, especially youth, to the Nazi movement. The torch itself was made in 1936 by Krupp, a German company better known for its production of steel and armaments. "
  7. It went to Jkt and today in KL. It was never in the the original plan to be here, so it's not because our MIW didn't want any trouble from protesters. Guess we are too small and insignificant to almighty Chinese.
