the 3rd guy from left look very strange. West Hollywood requiring all new businesses to have multi-stall gender-neutral bathrooms The West Hollywood City Council unanimously approved a measure requiring all new construction or significant renovations to businesses to include only gender-neutral bathrooms. All single-stall restrooms throughout the city have been required to be designated "gender-neutral" since 2014, but this is the first mandate that all new multi-stall restrooms be marked "gender-neutral." "I noticed in my conversations that multi-stall gender-neutral bathrooms are kind of the future," Council member John M. Erickson told ABC News. "It's easier. Going to the bathroom should just be going to the bathroom." Unless they do a major redesign, current businesses won't be impacted by the new law, which goes into effect on Jan. 1. West Hollywood's decision comes at a time when debates about who uses public bathrooms have become major topics of conversation in recent years. Last year, a transgender man from Virginia won a legal battle against his former high school after it refused to let him use the boy's bathroom when he was a student. "I am glad that my years-long fight to have my school see me for who I am is over," the former student, Gavin Grimm said in a statement at the time. "Being forced to use the nurse's room, a private bathroom, and the girl's room was humiliating for me, and having to go to out-of-the-way bathrooms severely interfered with my education."

https://asia.nikkei.com/Life-Arts/In-Tokyo-public-toilets-are-works-of-art?utm_campaign=RN Subscriber newsletter&utm_medium=JP update newsletter&utm_source=NAR Newsletter&utm_content=article link&del_type=4&pub_date=20200910090000&seq_num=19&si=44594 In Tokyo, public toilets are works of art World-class architects design uniquely shaped and see-through park restrooms This public restroom in Tokyo's Jingudori Parkw was designed by world-class architect Tadao Ando. (Photo by Seiya Tsuji) Nikkei staff writersSeptember 10, 2020 06:22 JST TOKYO -- A project to transform public toilets in Tokyo's Shibuya district into art saw its latest addition this week, when one designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Tadao Ando opened in Jingudori Park. The prominent, umbrella-like eaves capping the structure inspired its name Amayadori, or "shelter from the rain." The latticework is designed to let wind and light pass through seamlessly. This is the seventh design completed in Shibuya under the Tokyo Toilet project run by the Nippon Foundation. Sixteen internationally renowned creators are participating in the initiative. The idea is that the beauty of the structure would encourage visitors to be clean when doing their thing. With an army of professional inspectors making frequent visits to ensure the best user experience, the planners hope to change the image of public restrooms as dark, dirty, smelly and scary. The first restroom, completed in August, came from another Pritzker-Prize winner -- Shigeru Ban. Located in Yoyogi Fukamachi Mini Park, the yellow, red and purple stalls have a transparent facade when open. But once the door is locked from the inside, the walls become opaque to provide privacy. Visitors try out transparent public toilets that become opaque when occupied, designed by Japanese architect Shigeru Ban, at Yoyogi Fukamachi Mini Park in Tokyo. © Reuters "There are two things we worry about when entering a public restroom, especially those located at a park," Ban explained on the project's website. "The first is cleanliness, and the second is whether anyone is inside. Using the latest technology, the exterior glass turns opaque when locked. This allows users to check the cleanliness and whether anyone is using the toilet from the outside." It has a bonus function. At night, the facility lights up the park like a lantern. "We want to provide public restrooms that are not only accessible to all people, but also a pleasant experience for anyone to use," said a project manager at the Nippon Foundation. The plan is to install 17 of the artistic public restrooms by summer 2021. The structures are being built by construction company Daiwa House with Toto providing the cutting-edge toilets. Maintenance will be a collaboration between the Nippon Foundation, the Shibuya government and the Shibuya City Tourism Association. "Wonderwall" is a toilet in Ebisu Park designed by architect Masamichi Katayama, whose works include the Uniqlo global flagship stores in New York, Paris and Ginza. The public toilet inside Ebisu Park by Masamichi Katayama is made from 15 slabs of concrete. (Photo courtesy of Nippon Foundation) Made from 15 slabs of concrete, it took inspiration from Neolithic times, when Japanese toilets were huts that stood over rivers. Users walk through the randomly combined slabs that lead to three different areas: toilets for men, women and everyone. New York-based designer Nao Tamura created a bright red toilet in Shibuya's Higashi Sanchome that was inspired by Origata, a traditional Japanese method of decorative wrapping. Comprised of three separately designed small cubicles, the toilet seeks to provide a safe and private space that envelopes all users. "Living in New York, I have been privileged to witness the LGBTQ+ community living in alignment with their sexual identities," she said on the website. "I envisioned a society that embraces the LGBTQ+ community and holds space for them to live their truth." Nao Tamura's decorative-wrapping inspired toilet in Shibuya's HIgashi sanchome. (Photo courtesy of the Nippon Foundation) In a separate project, the Tokyo metropolitan government and Tokyo University of the Arts opened a so-called art toilet in Ueno Park on Monday. The walls are decorated with pandas, elephants and other animals in a homage to the nearby zoo. The city recruited Tokyo University of the Arts in spring of last year to remodel a public restroom in the park in a way that reflects the cultured surroundings, which includes the National Museum of Western Art and the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum. About 40 university students took part in the remodeling project. "I hope the restroom becomes another museum," said one graduate student. The capital's Toshima Ward launched the "Toshima Public Toilet Project" in fiscal 2017 to add brightly colored artwork to restrooms in parks and playgrounds. Tokyo redesigned this public restroom in Ueno Park to reflect the museums in the area. (Photo by Seiya Tsuji) The ongoing project has reached 24 locations so far, and the organizers also created a map so visitors can check out each work of art. Toshima aims to have the restrooms play a role in local tourism. Japan has always been famous for its quirky innovative toilets, such as warm-water-squirting bidets, toilets with no tanks and Toto's Tornado Flush, which creates a powerful circulating whirlpool of water that cleans every part of the bowl. But the coronavirus pandemic has given rise to new demand outside of its home market. Lixil saw sales of its shower toilets grow 60% year-on-year in the April-May period. A lack of toilet paper at stores, as customers hoarded rolls, gave American consumers an opportunity to try the electric bidets. Many got hooked. That trend was helped by news out of China that the coronavirus could spread through the air when toilets are flushed. Japanese toilets with lids that lift automatically when approached and that flush when users stand up are seen as a fit for this age.

1. Anyone know what are the pros and cons of a 1 piece toilet bowl versus a 2 pieces toilet bowl? 2. Any things to look out for when choosing a toilet bowl? Thank you. Regards,

Yesterday, I recieved a 7th month shock in my own toilet. Wanted to take a piss and found a centipede inside the toilet bowl. I got rid of it by flushing and spent the next 30 mins inspecting the toilet and saturating the place with insecticide. I also flushed the toilet a kazillion times to make sure the centipede doesn't come back. I wonder where the centipede came from and how to prevent a future incident? The scary part is it made a run for underside of the toilet bowl rim when I was about to flush. What if there is another one lurking there ready to crawl up somebody's butt?

Blenheim Palace set to install £1million gold toilet for visitors to use An 18-carat gold toilet has been plumbed into Blenheim Palace for visitors to use, but they’ll have to respect a strict time-limit. The lavatory, created by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan, will go on display at the Oxfordshire stately home in September. The fully-functioning throne will be open for public use, but a three-minute time limit will be imposed to reduce queue times. It has been placed opposite the room where Winston Churchill was born, and visitors will be able to book their time-slot in advance. There will be 20 slots an hour for art, or lav, lovers to choose from, provided they buy a £27 ticket for the palace, park and gardens. When the lavatory first opened at New York’s Guggenheim museum in 2016, it was so popular that people queued for hours to place their cheeks upon its glittering seat. Some 100,000 used it for its intended purpose, according to The Times. The piece previously made headlines in 2017 when it was offered on loan to Donald Trump. The US president had initially asked the museum to lend him an 1888 Van Gogh painting, but it rejected the request, offering Cattelan's golden masterpiece, titled ‘America’, instead. The flushable America arrived at the Marlborough family’s 300-year-old country home, last week, ready for a contemporary art exhibition that will open next month. The Duke of Marlborough’s half-brother and founder of the Blenheim Art Foundation Edward Spencer-Churchill told the Times: “Despite being born with a silver spoon in my mouth I have never had a s*** on a golden toilet, so I look forward to it.” The artwork is valued at more than £1million, but the palace appears relaxed about security. “It’s not going to be the easiest thing to nick,” Mr Spencer-Churchill said.

https://www.everydayhealth.com/hs/guide-to-constipation-relief/bowel-movements-whats-normal/ Not everyone has a bowel movement every day, and it doesn't mean something's wrong if you don't. Discover what being regular really means, and what to do when constipation symptoms strike. Bowel health is an important topic, as changes in bowel movements can be a sign of a health problem. But before you begin to worry about how “normal” you are, you have to know what a regular bowel movement is for you. Many people wrongly believe that having regular bowel movements means you move your bowels every day. However, everyone’s bowels are unique to them, and what’s normal for one person may not be normal for another. You can have a bowel movement anywhere from one to three times a day at the most, or three times a week at the least, and still be considered regular, as long as that’s your usual pattern. More or less frequent would be considered abnormal, but not necessarily cause for alarm, says gastroenterologist Arthur Magun, MD, clinical professor of medicine at the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University in New York City. What Happens With a Bowel Movement Digestion begins in your mouth and stomach and ends in your bowels — the lower parts of your digestive tract. When the food you eat reaches your bowels, the water and salts that remain are absorbed. The digested food that is left becomes more solid and exits as bowel movements. Dr. Magun explains that normal bowel movements “consist of formed, brown stools, not too hard, not too loose.” When stools are too loose, you can have diarrhea. When they are too hard and dry, you can be constipated. Symptoms of constipation include not having a bowel movement for more than three days and having hard, dry stools that are painful or difficult to pass. What Causes Constipation A variety of circumstances can cause constipation, including a change in routine such as when travelling, becoming pregnant, dieting, taking certain medications, and lacking physical exercise, particularly in older people. Certain health conditions, from a bowel disease to stroke, can also be a factor. Everyone has their own normal pattern of bowel movements, but if you find that you frequently experience symptoms of constipation, and if eating more fiber and drinking more water doesn’t help, see a doctor. He can determine whether a health check is necessary. Here’s what you can do to promote regular bowel movements: Eat more fiber. “Constipation is almost always due to inadequate fiber and liquid,” Magun says. Fiber can be found in beans, fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Strive for 20 to 35 grams of fiber a day. “Unprocessed bran is the best type of fiber,” he adds. Eat fewer low-fiber foods. These include ice cream, cheese, meat, processed food, and sugary foods such as soda and candy — which can all cause constipation. Drink more. “Eating enough bran and drinking the right amounts of water will lead to increased bulk within the intestine,” Magun says. Having the right amount of bulk stretches the intestine (a muscle) and causes it to contract and propel food along properly. “This is what leads to regular bowel movements,” he adds. Besides water, good choices are 100-percent fruit juices (juice with pulp has some fiber), soup, and tea. Don’t rely on laxatives. Improper use of laxatives can actually make symptoms of constipation worse, so take them only as directed. Reduce stress. “Stress can sometimes cause the large intestine to spasm, leading to pain and hard stools,” Magun says. Stress-reducing techniques that can improve constipation symptoms include yoga, meditation, and exercise. Don’t ignore the urge to go. Resisting the urge to go or waiting to go to the bathroom also can cause constipation — or make existing symptoms worse.

Public toilets are getting convenient and hygienic in many public areas like shopping malls, schools, community centers, and even parks. Everytime after washing our hands in the public toilets, there will be choices of how to dry your wet hands fitted in the toilets, either paper towels or hand dryers or both. http://theconversation.com/the-great-bathroom-debate-paper-towel-or-hand-dryer-51197 Which one would you normally prefer to use? PAPER TOWELS OR HOT AIR DRYERS - WHICH IS BETTER & WHY? http://info.debgroup.com/blog/bid/297155/Paper-Towels-or-Hot-Air-Dryers-Which-is-Better-Why We all know 80% of common infectious diseases are spread by our hands and effective hand washingremains our best defense - but what about hand drying? Are all methods created equal? A recent hygienic efficacy study of different hand drying methods, led by researches at Queensland University in Brisbane, Australia put this question to the test. Hand drying after all is an essential part of the hand washing process, as the spread of bacteria is more likely to occur with wet skin than from dry skin. Scientists reviewed twelve independent studies comparing paper towels, cloth towels, and hot air dryers. Hand drying effectiveness included, "the speed of drying, degree of dryness, effective removal of bacteria, and prevention of cross-contamination." Before you read the results of this latest study, please cast your vote on which drying method is more effective. Please also use the comments section below to share your feedback and insight about other studies and best practice recommendations. The study revealed, "from a hygiene viewpoint, paper towels are superior to electronic air dryers" and "drying hands thoroughly with single-use, disposable paper towels is the preferred method of hand drying." It concluded by recommending, "The provision of paper towels should be considered as a means of improving hand hygiene adherence." When it came to drying efficiency for example, the results indicated that, "residual water was more efficiently removed from the hands by cloth or paper towels." In fact, with just 10 seconds of drying with a single serve towel, the residual water on the hands was reduced to just 4% and dropped to just 1% with 15 seconds of drying. Air dryers were much slower and required 45 seconds to reduce the residual water to 3%. The bottom line, paper towels can generally achieve 90% or more dryness with normal use. The effectiveness in the removal of bacteria was measured by assessing the, "changes in the number of bacteria on the hands before and after the use of paper towels, hot air dryer, or jet air dryer. Finger pads were sampled by contact plates, and the palms were sampled by swabbing and inoculation of agar plates." They found that paper towels, "reduced the numbers of all types of bacteria on the hands" and hot air dryers were the least effective method of removing bacteria from washed hands. Many studies have found that friction is the key component in hand drying as it helps to remove contamination. Micobiological testing of the paper towels after use, demonstrates that many bacteria are transferred from the hands to the paper towels." Even more terrifying for all of us is the fact that every time a toilet is flushed, "a fine aerosol mist can be sprayed into the air. This mist may contain may types of fecal bacteria that can cause diseases. Air movement can encourage the dispersal and transmission of bacteria and increase the chance of cross-contamination. Used air dryers in washrooms are often contaminated and can emit bacteria in their air flow. So there is a potential risk of persons standing in front of air dryers acquiring the bacteria being dispersed into the air current towards them. The bacteria can then be inhaled or can be deposited on the person's body or clothes, thus making him/her a potential mobile source of infection." No such spread was seen with either paper or cloth towels. The review suggests that ultimately paper towels are the best option for settings where infection prevention is critical. However you may have no choice, which is often the case in public or workplace washrooms in which only hot air dryers are provided. The study did reveal that users have a strong preference for using paper towels and that "hand hygiene adherence would possibly decrease if paper towels are not available in washrooms." Also, air dryers that are used in many washrooms allow for only one user at a time and each person could take up to one minute to dry their hands. This is not convenient and often leads to avoidance or incomplete drying. In several studies, on average people spent just 22.5 seconds drying hands, and 41% wiped their hands unhygienically on clothes. In instances where paper towels are not available remember to always follow recommended hand washing technique, take extra time to dry your hands with an air dryers and consider carrying a personal size bottle of alcohol hand sanitizer as an added level of defense.

I live in an old 1960s apartment and I noticed in late December that water was leaking from the false ceiling in my toilet, right above the toilet bowl. Became worse 2 days later. Called NTUC Home Income services. The contractor came 5 hours later and sliced the false ceiling. He said it was bad. He found the concrete dislodged. The steel bars are exposed. Water is dripipping from the steel bar area. The owner above told me a tenant is living above and he is overseas. Anyone knows what are the next series of events I should expect? I am thinking that their toilet floor and bottom wall tiles (20 cm) have to be hacked off. Toilet bowl, sink all have to be removed. And a contractor needs to apply the water proof membrane on the whole floor and 20 cm of the wall tiles. The whole process may take 4 days. Should I alert the owner that her tenant would need to find an alternative place to stay for 4 days otherwise he will not be able to use the toilet and bath?

HELP! TOILET BOWL EXPLODED WITH SHIT IN MY PUNGGOL EAST FLAT! Dear A.S.S., Look at this shitty situation! One weekend I came home with my familly and I had to use the toilet urgently. So I went in and relieved myself. After that, I flushed. To my horror, the flush not only didn't work, it started to overflow. AND IT DIDN'T STOP OVERFLOWING. I had to run out of the toilet and try to turn off the water mains in my house, but it still didn't stop. Soon the entire house was filled with disgusting shit water. I had to ask my family to stay over at my in-laws place while i waited for the PUB and f**king slow HDB to show up and assess the damage. You can see the damage for yourself. I even saw bits of carrots and char siew floating around in the waste. Looks like we gotta go back to good ol days of using leaves. FairPrice says there is no shortage of toilet rolls, tissues and kitchen towels, and that normal delivery has resumed for most stores as of Monday. PHOTOS Shelves at NTUC FairPrice at Buona Vista (Photo: Peter Goh from Facebook) ENLARGE CAPTION SINGAPORE: Shoppers at NTUC FairPrice had a potentially messy situation on their hands last week, when several outlets ran out of toilet rolls, facial tissues and kitchen towels. A few FairPrice customers posted pictures of empty shelves on social media. FairPrice erected signs in affected stores informing shoppers that there was a "temporary shortage" because of a "delivery issue". A spokesperson told Channel NewsAsia on Tuesday (Oct 28) that an internal delivery glitch caused several stores to receive limited and intermittent stock from its distribution centre since the middle of last week. Normal delivery has resumed for most of its stores as of Monday, the spokesperson said. “We would like to assure customers that there is no shortage in the supply of these products,” FairPrice added. "We apologise for any inconvenience caused." - CNA/ek

Python hides in Eunosville toilet bowl, bites housewife's thigh May 1 was Labour Day, her son's second birthday, and now, Madam Noraslinda Asat (above) has another reason to remember this date for life. The 34-year-old housewife was bitten by a python as she sat on the toilet bowl last Thursday, around 5.10pm. She was in her Eunosville home's master bedroom ensuite bathroom when she felt the sharp pain. Standing up, she saw the jaws of a 1.8m-long python clamped on the back of her right thigh. She was taken to hospital where she received an injection and was discharged. The snake has not been caught and Madam Noraslinda is still traumatised. She has refused to use either toilet at home, preferring public ones at places like the coffee shop. Read the full report in The New Paper on Thursday (May 8) http://www.tnp.sg/content/python-hides-eunosville-toilet-bowl-bites-housewifes-thigh This is scary! If it was a man in this case, his kuku bird might have been bitten off by the python. Make it a habit to look carefully into the toilet bowl before sitting down to do your business.

Japan's best-known toilet maker on Wednesday unveiled a "poop-powered" motorcycle that can travel as far as 300km on a tank filled with animal waste. Billed as the world's first waste-powered vehicle, the three-wheeler has a toilet in place of a regular seat and huge paper roll at the back. But as a young female model climbed aboard for a test drive Wednesday, toilet giant TOTO was quick to point out that she would not supply the "gas". "The biogas it uses as fuel is not made from human waste. It's made from livestock waste and sewage," Kenji Fujita, a company spokesman, told reporters in a Tokyo suburb. why nowadays so many strange cases involving teachers? are they a deprived lot?? http://news.asiaone.com/News/Latest%2BNews...713-359025.html The former teacher who was charged in Feb with theft and trespass for installing pinhole cameras in the female toilets of the school he was teaching at pled guilty this morning, saying that he wasn't in the right state of mind when he committed the deed, reported local Chinese dailies. Bertrand Ngien Wen-Tseah, 37, was faced with eight charges, including trespassing a female toilet, destroying evidence and outrage of modesty when was a science teacher at Yuhua Secondary School. According to the Chinese dailies, he had installed three pinhole cameras in one of the school's girls' toilet on the fourth level around 7am on Feb 15. Shin Min Daily News reported that at least three girls were secretly filmed. A student discovered a camera in the toilet and alerted a staff member, who later found two more similar devices in other cubicles in the same toilet, reported The New Paper. The staff member placed the cameras in the staffroom and left the room. Around 1pm on the same day, Ngien entered the staffroom and saw the cameras on the school's operations manager's table. He knew that his deeds have been discovered and decided to destroy the evidence. An hour later, when the office was empty, he removed the three micro SD memory cards. When the school discovered the memory cards were missing, footage from the closed-circuit television camera installed in the staffroom was checked and Ngien was seen removing the memory cards. He was called back to the school on that afternoon, and on the way there, he threw away memory cards into a storm drain. He confessed to the principal, who told Ngien to return home, saying he was going to report the matter to the police, according to Lianhe Wanbao. When he reached home, Ngien threw away the laptop which he had viewed the recordings on. The $443 laptop had been issued by the Ministry of Education and Ngien has since refunded the cost. Ngien pleaded through his lawyer that his wife had suffered from mental illnesses which resulted in him developing depression. He claimed to have sought psychiatric help in 2009, and is current seeking treatment with the Institute of Mental Health. He said he was remorseful for committing the offence. He added that being fired by the Ministry of Education was his greatest punishment and pleaded for a lighter sentence. The case will adjourn in court on July 25 for sentencing

main culprits are men who drips when they pee........ how to stop this? this is not joking..... lets start with the urinals chosen for the toilets. some urinals really cmi..... too small and any drips sure land on the floor, and become smelly there are basically a few types of urinals, which you used and found more drip-proof than the others? 1. old school common urinals in stainless steel, one long longkang everyone can see next guys' didi... but the 'drain' catches the drips quite well (but i think no more liao, even SAF camps also not using this) 2. individua "box type" hanged from the wall, open front, with a little 'lip' sticking out in front trying to catch the drips... quite useless 3. the moden individaul oval (egg-shape) type, also hanged from wall, i find this type catches the drips quite well (my vote goes to this) 4. the full height individual urinal which sits on the floor, we pee all the way down into its 'catchment' on the ground.... quite rare nowadays 5. other types? maybe they should introduce a drip-sensor ---- anyone drips, he gets water jet shoot at his face from the wall.... this way he will aim and shoot properly maybe the urinal should be shaped like a xmm's open mouth, then the guy insert his didi and shoot, sure no drips on the floor, not smelly toilet... ??

My HDB toilet door is spoilt. It's not just the handle. The lock system doesn't turn at all. I'm unable to open it (screw spoilt), so I want to change the whole set. Does anyone know where to get it? (Preferably in the west / north-west... )
