This may be nostalgic for many people. Tomorrow is actually the last day of operation for Toa Payoh Swimming Pool and Stadium. They would make way for an integrated sports hub. For me, I took my pre NS IPPT there many moons ago. Today, I did a short run round its track. A senior told me to take a photo of her with the track as the backdrop. I then asked her what the stadium meant to her. She told me that she participated and represented Singapore in running at this very venue in 1980. She is 67 and still run. Her best friend who was with her was also a caretaker for the stadium. Here are some photos.

SINGAPORE: A 57-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly tried to rob a woman while armed with a knife in Toa Payoh on Monday (Jan 9). The police said that they responded to a “999” call for assistance at a carpark in Toa Payoh Lorong 6 at about 11am on Monday. A 48-year-old woman was found to have sustained injuries on her right hand from an earlier assault. Investigations revealed that she was entering her vehicle when the man purportedly approached her from the back, demanded that she got into the car and assaulted her, said police in a news release on Tuesday. He was allegedly armed with a knife during the confrontation. The woman sustained a laceration on her right hand, scratch marks on her stomach and abrasions on her right arm. She was taken conscious to the hospital. She did not suffer any monetary loss and is in a stable condition. Police said that officers established the identity of the man and arrested him within 24 hours of the police report through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras and CCTVs. The man will be charged on Wednesday with the offence of attempted armed robbery with hurt. Since young, our parents will constantly remind us time and time again to always check for traffic before attempting to cross the road. Unfortunately, all these bits of advice seem to enter and exit this jogger's ears, without the organ in between his ears retaining any advice. Watch this short clip to find out why: What Happened? The cam car and a Toyota Harrier formed up on the left lane of a two carriageway road. A man clad in a perspiration-soaked Army singlet walks along the pavement from a distance. As he approaches the cam car and Toyota Harrier, the traffic light turns green in both cars' favour. Instead of stopping by the grass patch and checking for oncoming traffic, the man simply hops onto the road and attempts to illegally dash across the road. At this moment, a Toyota Prius drives past the cam car and almost collides with the pedestrian. As a result, the pedestrian performs an "e-brake" to stop himself and does an odd dance-like action. Luckily, the oncoming Toyota Prius also performed an e-brake and avoided colliding with the pedestrian. After this encounter, the pedestrian takes his own sweet time and nonchalantly "jogs" across the road while navigating around several vehicles. Too Shag To Think Logically? Is saving those few minutes spent waiting for the green man so important that it is more important than one's life? Mansor, 49, was a total stranger to Mr Tan Soy Yong, 76, who had soiled himself while grocery shopping. But that did not stop the bedsheet promoter from reaching out to help the elderly man. She cleaned off the faeces on Mr Tan, bought him a new pair of shorts and even accompanied him home. This act of kindness took place last Tuesday at the FairPrice supermarket at Toa Payoh HDB Hub, and was reported today in The New Paper. Ms Mansor, who works at the supermarket, had noticed that people around her were pinching their noses and looking uncomfortable about a foul smell in the air. She went about trying to locate the source of the stench, and found that it was coming from Mr Tan, who was standing at a cashier's counter with faeces on his shorts and shins. There was also a small lump of faeces on his sandals. Mr Tan had soiled his pants while grocery shopping with his wife, Madam Lee Bee Yian, 76, who was in a wheelchair. "No one was helping him even though he looked so pitiful," Ms Noriza told The New Paper. People were steering clear of Mr Tan and even his wife was complaining about the problem he had created, but Ms Noriza rose to action. She bought him a new pair of shorts from a store opposite the supermarket, and went to the FairPrice staff toilet to get a pail of water and some tissue. She then got Mr Tan to change into the clean shorts and asked him to sit on a nearby brick ledge, while she knelt before him and started to wipe the faeces off him. She also rinsed out his dirty sandals. All the while as she did so, she kept talking to Mr Tan. "I was telling him not to worry and that he would be clean very soon," said Ms Noriza, a divorcee with five children aged 10 to 25. When she was done, she accompanied the elderly couple back to their flat in Potong Pasir, before heading back to work. Ms Noriza's kind act was observed by currency trader Goh Rong Ren, 32, who was rushing off to a dinner appointment with his friends that day when a passer-by asked him to help Ms Noriza and the elderly couple. He helped to pay for the couple's cab fare home, and was so touched by Ms Noriza's compassion towards Mr Tan that he wanted people to know about what she did. He then got his friend to contact The New Paper. "Her selflessness towards a total stranger moved me. It was pure and unadulterated kindness," he said. Suspected gang member taken to Toa Payoh central for crime scene visit Earlier today, 21-year-old suspected gang member Benjamin Lee was taken by CID officers to Block 177 Toa Payoh Central – where he and his other gang members had allegedly confronted a rival group to settle a dispute in the early hours of 13 September.
