Motorcyclist vigilante stops van driver from a hit-and-run with a cyclist

A round of applause for this true motorcyclist vigilante. We need more of such road users in Singapore to bring bad drivers to justice. In a recent SGRV Facebook video post, a cyclist can be seen cycling along Bukit Timah Road sometime at night when out of nowhere, a white Toyota Hiace van knocks the cyclist down. Seeing this, the motorcyclist kicked his bike into action and chased the van down to block its path. After which, he even called in the Police. According to the screenshot of the Police report in the video, the van driver claimed that he noticed that he had hit something but 'did not saw anything'. Seeing how the van driver failed his breathalyser test that was conducted after the incident, its no wonder he didn't see anything. He was arrested on the spot by the Police. Here's the full video. Another Toyota Vios has gotten into an accident similar to the white 2nd generation example that went viral few weeks back on 23 March. Thanks to an unknown vehicle's in-car camera, we can see that this black first generation Vios lost it as it crossed the metal expansion strip that joins different sections of the Anak Bukit Flyover on the PIE. As seen on SG Road Vigilante's facebook page, the car seemed like it was speeding in the drizzle when the mishap happened. Check out the lorry driver's good reaction and evasive skills in avoiding the Vios! The Vios came to a stop on lane 1 with a Prius curiously avoiding it causally. SINGAPORE - Motor group Tan Chong is shutting down its Nissan showroom in Bukit Timah after being there for nearly four decades. The last motor facility in the area, the showroom was opened in 1982. The home-grown motor group, listed in Hong Kong, said it is closing its showroom because of "falling footfall", referring to declining number of customers visiting the Bukit Timah address. It will instead focus on its two other showrooms in Ubi and Leng Kee, sites of Singapore's two "motor belts". Mr Ron Lim, head of sales and marketing at Tan Chong Motor, said: "We review our operations from time to time to ensure that our resources are optimised. In line with the reduction in COE quotas, we have seen a fall in showroom traffic at Bukit Timah and we have decided to consolidate Nissan's showroom operations at Leng Kee and Ubi. "Our service centre at Bukit Timah will continue to serve customers. "

Last month went to Cheong Chin Nam road for their prata and realised they no more selling prata, only sell tze char, western food and others but NO prata anymore.... Damn sad.... Seems their rival Al Alzar has monopolised the prata business in Bukit Timah. Super crowded. I still prefer Al Ameen's prata.....

Motorists going to Woodlands from the city, or vice-versa, will be able to use the dual two-lane flyover to bypass a stretch of Upper Bukit Timah Road between Chestnut Drive and Jalan Asas. The flyover provides an alternative route that will redistribute traffic from existing ground-level junctions at Dairy Farm Road and Hillview Road, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said yesterday. Construction for the 700m-long flyover started in the second half of 2011. Motorists can start using it from 8am on Dec 27. The LTA has advised motorists heading towards Dairy Farm Road, Hillview Road and Jalan Asas to continue to use the ground-level roads, and not the flyover, to reach their destinations. The Hillview flyover is the second one to be completed along the corridor this year. In April, the Bukit Panjang flyover was opened along a stretch of Upper Bukit Timah Road and Woodlands Road. The viaduct allows motorists to bypass the intersection of Choa Chu Kang Road, Upper Bukit Timah Road, Woodlands Road and Bukit Panjang Road . The two flyovers are part of a larger infrastructure project, which also includes widening parts of Upper Bukit Timah Road and Woodlands Road to improve overall traffic flow in the corridor. "With the enhancement of this key arterial road corridor serving the north-western part of Singapore, motorists travelling to and from Bukit Panjang and Choa Chu Kang residential estates, as well as the Kranji and Mandai industrial estates, will enjoy a better transport experience," the LTA said. Mr Balasupramaniam, 69, a retiree, welcomes the new flyover. He said: "During the peak hours, the traffic along Upper Bukit Timah Road can be quite congested." He added that motorists heading to Woodlands would enjoy a faster drive with the flyover, as they do not have to mix with traffic that is turning into the condominiums in the area, such as along Hillview Road. I'm looking for anyone with an in-car cam or had witnessed a hit-and-run incident along Upp. Bukit Timah road near Bt. Panjang, around 7.30PM. Bike failed to squeeze and hit the rear passenger side of my wife's car. Left a scratch. Ran away. My wife's car cam could not capture the license plate as it was dark and bike was in motion. There was a Citicab behind her. Let me put this out as a warning to all riders -- you hit a car, even just the side mirrors -- you stop and apologise. If it's small incident, I will let it pass, but if you don't stop, it is a criminal offence to hit and run, and I will hunt you down, and I will make you pay. I've had two bikers hit my side mirrors and ran away already. Not letting this one go easily. And BTW, all incidents are SG bikes. MY bikers seem more in control of their bikes.- 23 replies

I have an in car camera footage of this vehicle, a mazda CX7 SKN320Y turning out from Shelford Road into Bt Timah Road without stopping and AFTER coming out of Bt Timah road, came to a DEAD STOP causing me to E-brake. A car behind me also E braked hard and nearly hit me This happened 29 Sep 2014, Monday night at about 9:15pm, but the camera time stamp is wrong as the car isn't driven regularly. May I know if I can submit this to the TP? May I know if this can be submissible for evidence for a TP report? My passenger later put her phone in front of the camera as a visible time stamp. When the system senses an approaching vehicle that is too tall, it will start flashing a visual warning to alert the driver that his vehicle may hit the structure. The Land Transport Authority (LTA), which set up the system, said it will try this out for six months and gauge its effectiveness before rolling it out to more locations. The LTA said incidents involving vehicles hitting overhead structures are relatively low but added that a damaged overhead road structure can pose grave danger to all road users.

The Anak Bukit Flyover in Bukit Timah will be the first road in Singapore to get permanent noise barriers. Construction of the barriers - measuring 6m in height and 225m in length - began yesterday and will be completed in October, bringing some relief to nearby residents who have complained about noise pollution. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said yesterday that this is part of a trial to assess the effectiveness of such barriers in reducing traffic noise. It will also finish installing similar structures along the West Coast Highway near Block 44, Telok Blangah Drive, by the middle of next year. The new flyover being built along Braddell Road near Block 138, Bishan Street 12, will also get the barriers some time in 2016. These three locations were selected based on their high traffic volumes and noise levels, explained the LTA yesterday. The barriers will cost about $3.8 million in total, a spokesman added. Jurong GRC MP Halimah Yacob had raised the issue of noise in the Anak Bukit Flyover's vicinity as early as 2012, when residents voiced concerns over the widening of the road - part of the recent expansion of the Pan-Island Expressway. "As the carriageways will come closer to the adjacent (condominium) Sherwood Towers... I asked the LTA whether they could put up noise barriers," Madam Halimah told The Straits Times. "I was really very glad when they accepted the idea... given our very compact environment where living spaces jostle side by side with busy roads, I would think that this would be a necessary feature to mitigate noise and provide a better living environment." The barriers are made of a combination of transparent and absorptive panels. The latter are lined internally with rock wool, a material commonly used to absorb sound. Sherwood Towers residents whom The Straits Time spoke to yesterday said noise had been a long-time problem, and that it often gets "quite noisy" at night. Mr Liu San, a 49-year-old chef at a restaurant in Bukit Timah Plaza beside the condominium, has been living at Sherwood Towers for more than 20 years. "If they really help to reduce the noise, that will be good," he said of the barriers. "I've seen similar sound walls in European countries." Others said they were fed up waiting for a solution, while some were resigned to having to live with noise, even after the barriers come up. Retiree Chan Heng Wah, 72, who has lived in the area for four years, said: "We are surrounded by traffic on all four sides. There is no way to block all the noise." Posting this on behalf of @Wynd Hi guys, This is an unfortunate event that happened to me. Can I request for eye witnesses for an accident that happened on the 9th June 2014, at the junction of Upper Bukit Timah road turning right into Old Jurong Road between 6.30pm to 7.00pm? I was turning right from Upper Bukit Timah Road to Old Jurong Road and green arrow was lit in my favour but there was this car that dashed the red light and collided with my car. I am unsure if the red light camera went off or not. According to my claims advisor, I would probably lose this case as the other party can say that the traffic light is in his favour. And going straight usually wins the case. There was one driver driving past who kindly rolled down the window , yelled to me and pointed at him telling me he dashed the red light, best part is, I did not take down this nice guy's number or his vehicle plate which is vital information for me in this situation. So can I appeal that he or anyone who knows this guy would contact me at 9880 6818 to be my witness? Also, please help to share around if possible. Drivers who leave for work between 7am and 9am spend an average of 35 minutes on congested roads, double the time it takes when the roads are clear. "It's exactly true, it's really really congested," said Bukit Timah resident Marlene Teo, 36, a dentist. "I work in town so I have to leave earlier for work and try to come back early around 6pm to beat the traffic." Residents like her blame the slow drive on extensive construction work and a concentration of schools in the area. TomTom, the world's leading provider of in-car location and navigation products and services, today released its second study on travel times to and from 15 Singapore suburbs during peak-hour traffic. Bukit Timah topped the charts as the overall worst suburb for the peak-hour commute, replacing Clementi and Tampines, which took "line honors" for both morning and afternoon peak-hour commutes, in TomTom's first study two years ago. In a comparison of peak and off-peak travel times, Bukit Timah recorded a 111 per cent increase in travel times in the mornings and a 97 per cent increase in evening travel times*. In the latest study this year, Clementi featured as the 2nd worst suburb for the morning commute, with a 97 per cent increase in travel time during peak-hours compared to free flow traffic, extending its position as one of Singapore's most congested suburbs during peak-hour since the pioneer study was published in 2010. It was ranked as the 3rd worst suburb for evening commute with a 93 per cent increase in travel time. Two years ago, Tampines ranked the worst for morning commute, but has improved this year to rank 10th worst for morning commute. The eastern suburb, previously ranked the best for evening commute, has now been relegated to the 6th worst for evening commute in the latest study. The drop in ranking for evening commute could be due to a variety of factors such as changing driving patterns and road developments in the area. Happen to encounter this weird issue. Was at Bukit Timah along Dunearn road. I stopped by my car and tried to lock the car.......LED indicator did lit up but car did not respond. Tried many times from different angle of car......no difference. But when i tried unlocking button......car responded. Locked up my car using key first. After i left the place......the car key transponder works perfectly well for both lock and unlock. Anyone had such experience to share what's the reason for occurrence?

Dear Bros, I was involved in an accident some time back at Bukit Timah Link, the curve upslope road leading to PIE on the right. Right now the accident is coming back to haunt me via court hearings and etc... So I just need to find out a couple of things but it would be abit hard to stop along that stretch. Hence, Just want to check if anyone knows if there are any street cameras along that stretch of road? And How do I go about obtaining a copy of the video from TP if there is a camera taking that stretch? Accident happened in 2009. Many thanks in advance!!

SDP certainly has come a long way since the last GE. I am quite impressed with Dr Wijeysingha since the live debate he had with PM together with 11 other folks some time back. The news coverage just a while ago on him & his A-team when he put forth his thoughts on quite a few topics again was [thumbsup] His team star partners like Mr Tan & Dr Ang were also impressive with their gentlemanly behaviour. I guess confrontational style here is unpalatable to Singaporeans so it is a good thing if SDP is genuinely moving away from all that. Love to see how our MCYS minister earns his pay by defending his turf against this SDP A-Team. BTW, many of us are still bitter about the S$387m bill for the YOG... A KTM passenger train leaving for Malaysia from the Bukit Timah station was derailed at about 8am this morning (Nov 9). No one was injured. The train was derailed 200m away from the Bukit Timah KTM station on its way to Malaysia. Passengers were reported as merely feeling a 'bump' and no one was injured. The KTM technical staff are on-site and the train is being towed to the Tanjong Pagar station.

Bukit Timah Road (opp Anglo Chinese School). A Lamborghini (Verde Picus GSpyder), A Honday Civic and a Hyundai Taxi involved in an accident. The Lamborghini bonnet got smashed. The Honda lost the rear left wheel, standing on 3 wheels, The Taxi hit the side curb and the taxi driver got arm injury stays inside the taxi waiting for help. sauce: xinmin and youtube

Was driving down upp bukit timah road at a speed of 80-90. suddenly saw a white ghost on top of the bridge near courts, hidden by the tall trees when i saw him, i last saw my speed was dropping near 80 already. Time was around 3.30 to 4.30. His camera seems to be pointing towards the left lane. Was at right most lane heading towards ngee ann poly. will i be part of his year end bonus?
