Skoda Singapore offered Mycarforum members the opportunity to take the all-new Kodiaq out for a spin and learn all about the car. Working together with Sgcarmart and Mycarforum, Skoda Singapore organised a cozy sharing session in its showroom located at 26 Leng Kee Road. Mycarforum members were invited to the showroom to get up close with the all-new Skoda Kodiaq at this Mycarforum Hangout event. The event was kicked off on an upbeat note with an opening address by Mr. David Nah, the Brand Director of Skoda Singapore. Offering excellent utility with plenty of style, the Skoda Kodiaq has always been a popular mid-size SUV around the world, and especially so in Singapore. The spotlight was shining on the Kodiaq - built on the MQB Evo platform, which underlies many of Volkswagen Group’s latest models, it is now bigger and better than ever before. At first glance, those not as familiar with these cars might mistake the Kodiaq as a facelift, as it has retained the split-headlight design of its predecessor. However, the new Kodiaq is now longer than before, resulting in a 70-litre increase in cargo capacity - it now offers 340 litres of boot space with all seats up, and expands to a maximum of 2,035 litres. Along with the increase in cargo capacity, is a slew of smart features that have been introduced in the Kodiaq. The Travel Assist feature, an extension of the typical Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering assistance, is one of the most user-friendly and capable driving assist feature out there - the Kodiaq is able to come to a complete stop and move off autonomously while following the car in front of it! Also unique to the new Kodiaq are Smart Dials - physical knobs with a display in the middle, and these could be toggled to control various functions with a quick press as well. All these impressive features and equipment that the Kodiaq offers were shared with the attendees of the event by Mr. Ernie Chua, Senior Trainer at Volkswagen Group Singapore. After the passionate and detailed presentation about the Kodiaq by Ernie, Zhi Xuan from Sgcarmart’s Editorial Team shared his favourite features of the car - the Smart Dials and the generous boot space, with the crowd. But one can only know get to know so much about a car from a third-person’s point of view - after the sharing session and some refreshments, it was time for the test drive! Attendees took the new Skoda Kodiaq and the Skoda Enyaq, to the roads to experience for themselves the easy drive and comfortable journey that these cars offer, and came back all smiles. All who joined us at the latest Mycarforum hangout with the Smart #1 got the chance to learn more about one of newest brands to officially enter Singapore. After visiting the Lexus LBX in May, Mycarforum has now visited yet another crossover also perfect for taking on Singapore's streets! This time, we visited the new Smart #1, in both its 'Pro+' and 'Brabus' variants, at a swanky new pop-up showroom, located at 209 Pandan Gardens Road. This new space is set to serve as the temporary home for the newly-arrived-in-Singapore Smart brand until renovation work is completed at its permanent showroom located at level 3 of Mercedes-Benz Centre. If you're unfamiliar with the cars, here's a quick low-down on them: Sales of the all-electric Smart #1 kicked off here in Singapore only in April of 2024. The Smart #1 in its 'Pro+' variant comes with a total of 268bhp alongside a 66kWh battery, which allows you to cover a claimed 420km before its battery goes flat. The Smart #1 'Brabus', meanwhile, will please those looking for a bit more zest in their daily commute. Offering a total of 422bhp, this electric crossover will complete the century sprint in just 3.9 seconds. All this is made possible thanks to a battery which offers the same 66kWh capacity as the Smart #1 Pro+, but the greater energy consumption of the Brabus means you’ll be able to cover close to 400km before you'll need to plug the car back to a charger. And if they look a little familiar, there's a fair chance you're already seen them (other than here on Sgcarmart, that is). The cars have already visited locations including VivoCity, Jewel at Changi Airport, and Waterway point in a host of roadshows organised by Smart itself. The morning's Mycarforum hangout, however, is designed to give those interested in the cars the opportunity to get to know them better in a more exclusive setting. The two new initiatives are meant to help protect customers by minimising contact with salespersons and service staff. TEST DRIVE A PORSCHE ALONE In order to set up an unaccompanied test drive, customers will first speak to a sales consultant via a WhatsApp video call. During the call, the consultant will highlight the key features of the vehicle before confirming the solo test drive appointment. To qualify, drivers must be at least 24 years old and be able to provide a refundable security deposit. According to Porsche Singapore, the security deposit ranges from $20,000 to $40,000. Upon completing the necessary forms, customers will be able to drive the car alone for 30 minutes. Porsche Singapore says this initiative began with the Cayenne Coupe, and that it is working to expand the lineup to include models such as Macan, Panamera and 911 Carrera. DOORSTEP SERVICE Porsche is also making maintenance even more convenient for customers with their contactless servicing programme. Once a service appointment has been arranged, Porsche will collect the customer’s vehicle from his or her chosen location. The car will be returned once the maintenance work is completed. Contactless servicing for annual maintenance/repairs is complimentary. However, this only applies during the five years from the vehicle’s registration date.

Hi, I test drove a lot of cars at the start, but now I think I have shortlisted down to 2 cars. So I want to test drive them again and compare between the two. Should I look for the same SEs who helped me the first time, or just any SE at the showroom? I'm just concerned that if I look for the same SE, they will take it a serious sign of interest and disturb me with phone calls, etc. What do you guys do for 2nd test drive?

Hi Bros, I have a hypothetical question and it goes like this. Usually after servicing my car at a certain workshop, the mechanic would take the car for a test drive to see if there are any problems with the car after servicing. So what happens if: 1) During test drive, something else breaks down after servicing? (eg. radiator pipe burst, suspension noise starts to appear, tyre kenna nail puncture, etc.) 2) During test drive, the mechanic met with an accident with my car and my insurance doesn't cover him? Who is gonna pay for the damages? Appreciate your valuable advice/comments. Thanks.

The above video is a detailed review of the 2013 Ford Fusion EcoBoost. The Fusion is a mid-sized sedan for the American market. Why bother with a car not destined for Singapore, you may ask. Unlike the previous generation Fusion, the latest model is actually a twin sibling of the all-new Ford Mondeo. When the new Mondeo arrives in Singapore, the 1.6-litre EcoBoost will likely be the best selling variant due to the local consumers' "Big body, small engine" mentality. The video starts with a walkaround over the car's exterior followed by the interior, paying close attention to details such as the styling cues and plastic quality. The review ends with a test drive in a local town. You can hear the sporty note of the force-fed lump in the cabin of the vehicle. The main difference between the Mondeo and the Fusion is that the US model is equipped with a torque-convertor automatic transmission whereas the Mondeo is fitted with the more advanced six-speed dual-clutch Powershift.

The all-new 2013 Kia Forte has just been introduced in its domestic market. The above Korean video shows a test drive review of the latest Kia sedan. Measuring 4,560mm long, 1,780mm wide and 1,435mm tall, the Forte is powered by a 138bhp 1.6-litre GDI engine in Korea. It is mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox. I recently had a go in the 2012 Hyundai Elantra 1.8 over in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia recently. This is a model that isn't being sold over in Singapore due to the COE price structure but it does tell me a whole lot of things about this very established Korean brand and how far the Koreans have moved forward in terms of car design and technology. About ten years ago I would have tried my very best not to want to drive one but I suppose times have changed as this new Elantra is actually quite accomplished. The last Elantra I drove was the early to mid-2000s third generation model pictured above. This car was pretty good if you wanted to be invisible. It did what it's supposed to do and nothing else. The later fourth generation one tried to be a little bit more funky with some coke bottle styling but it still looked like a car for Mr. & Mrs Boring As Hell. Not any more as this current model looks and feels good. I think this car looks like what the new Honda Civic should have been like instead of what Honda is giving us. The Hyundai Elantra looks better than the Civic which has basically morphed from a young and vibrant car into something a previous Hyundai Elantra buyer would buy. The world has basically turned a little topsy turvy these days. Getting in the 1.8 Elantra is pretty much like getting in the 1.6 version of it (You can read about the 1.6 model here). The only difference is the addition of a sunroof and some red stitching on the seats. The sunroof in my opinion takes a bit of headroom but it still feels like it has more of that than the larger Kia Optima 5 which I sat in recently. This is good for a small family sedan even with that rakish roofline. I however felt that the seats (which are electrically adjustable) could have been set a little lower as I still felt perched a little higher than I would have liked. Aside from that the fit and finish of the interior is good for its class. It isn't as accomplished as a Volkswagen Golf TSI, but it is better than what was offered before. Now when it came to driving the darn thing the 1.8 Elantra isn't something that is as special as it looks. It may have 130hp and 178Nm torque but the normally aspirated 4 cylinder engine needs revs to move even if its coupled to a very smooth shifting 6 speed automatic (without any pedal shifters and only a '+' and '-' to use on the shifter). The problem (which is similar to the 1.6) is that the engine gets pretty vocal at high revs. The engine isn't some sweet sounding Honda VTEC or a Subaru Boxer, hence the complaint I am making here as it makes all the growls and noises but there isn't much speed to the equation. I suppose not much is lost if one bought the 1.6liter version over this model. The ride on 17inch tyres seemed a little busy but the handling isn't as good as its sporty looks. It it isn't that much fun to chuck around as the steering lacks feel and seems to be low geared. You may need to work on the steering wheel more to place the car where you want it to be. The slippery Nappa leather seats aren't as supportive and it could do with more support in the thigh area. Throw the car into a corner or make last minute lane changes and you may find yourself making more steering inputs than you thought necessary. And while doing that you have to be holding on to the steering wheel hard as the seats aren't that good in supporting you while you're trying to be a weekend warrior. The Elantra 1.8 does not seem to enjoy getting flung into corners as much as, say a FD model Honda Civic 1.8 or a Mitsubishi Lancer 2.0GT. It is competent, with traction control and all that, but it isn't something that could be called fun. I have to conclude with the fact that the Koreans have made great progress (if you intend to use this car as transport and not as a sporty set of wheels). This seems to have started with Kia coming out with the Forte and it hasn't faltered. Although I have to complain (albeit a small tiny complaint) that the Hyundai Elantra's glovebox is small and if you open it you may hit your passenger's knees or that your passenger's knees may get in the way of it opening fully. Not many Japanese or European cars have these sort of quibbles, but it does tell you that the Koreans still have only a tiny bit of catching up to do for now.

There have been quite a few French cars tested recently over at SgCarMart recently and those of you who cannot get enough of anything French, I am glad to report that I had a spin in a 2010 308 VTi 1.6 quite recently. This car has been around since 2008 and for SG$100k, gives you a whole lot of car for the money. The 308 1.6 I drove is a Malaysian specced car. Which only lacks the glass roof of the one sold in Singapore. Over in Singapore, you'd get a panoramic glass roof, dual zone air-conditioning, 16 inch wheels on 205/55/16 tires and the big smiley mouth to go with it. It has so happy a face that Peugeot recently changed its design philosophy a tad bit. Do a search on the Peugeot SR1 concept to see the changes in design philosophy. The only difference this 120bhp normally aspirated 1.6 liter Vti has compared to the 1.6liter THP Turbo are the turbocharger that pushes out 140bhp but 240Nm of torque instead of 160Nm and that the rims on the Turbo are 17inches in diameter with 225/45/17 tires. The rest is pretty much similar and the interior looks like it is built better than French cars from the early 2000s or before. In those days, especially pre1990s, French cars usually will have those useless bits of trim falling off leaving only the funcional items behind for the driver to use.
