[ Unlike the Italians, Germans are more eloquent in their art of disguise. This, particularly in the way their performance cars are made. Ferraris and Lamborghinis scream supercar with their vivid, attention catching colours, while the Merc AMGs, BMW Ms and Audi RSes are quick to have you mistake them for just another motoring staple. And here, we may have another example of a wolf in sheep's skin. On the outside, nothing quite separate this A6 Avant from its tamer siblings. The usual suspects are absent - no range-topping 'RS' kit or badge. What it has though, are adequately sporty S-line dressings. And a set of 20-inch rims - which does not look overtly large in those wheel arches. Here comes the exciting part. A 3.0-litre bi-turbo V6 diesel engine, giving the A6 Avant enough power to dish out the century sprint in 5.3 seconds. That's about just half a second slower than the RS4. Then there's the chunky 650Nm of torque, which makes driving in our urban landscape a breeze. The Avant (Audi's speak for wagon) has become an icon in the world of automotive shapes. And we reckon it just adds to the uniqueness of the car's overall preposition.

The 2013 Skoda Octavia RS will be making its debut at the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed. But before that, the Czech automaker has released the first official video featuring the RS in sedan and Combi body styles. On the exterior, the Octavia RS has subtle styling cues that distinguish it from the regular model. These include a blackened grille, honeycomb air intake, dual chromed exhaust pipes, red brake calipers and a rear spoiler for the sedan. The new generation Octavia RS is available with either a 2.0-litres TSI petrol engine producing 220 bhp or a 2.0-litres TDI delivering 184 bhp. Both engines are available with a six-speed manual or a six-speed DSG dual clutch transmission. The petrol/manual combination sprints from standstill to 100km/h in 6.8 seconds while the TDI/manual version takes 8.1 seconds to do so. Sports Chassis is standard equipment on the RS, which makes the car sit 15mm lower than the standard Octavia. Electronic XDS differential lock is also a standard feature, which is part of the ESC electronic stabilisation programme. The XDS system improves wheel traction and reduces understeering during fast cornering.

The 2014 model year of the European spec Skoda Rapid is set to go on sale on 5th August 2013 with a series of updates. Most importantly, the compact Czech sedan will receive a new engine option in the form of a 1.6-litre TDI engine which is good for a modest 90bhp. The diesel engine will be mated to either to a seven-speed dual clutch automatic of a five-speed manual gearbox. An optional Green tec package adds green technologies such as low-rolling resistance tyres, brake energy regeneration and start/stop system. The 1.6-litre TDI Green Tec is said to return a fuel consumption figure of 3.9L/100km and emits CO2 at 104g/km. With the new engine, the Rapid is now available with two diesel engines and four petrol units. The refreshed Skoda Rapid will be offered with optional Xenon headlights. On the inside, the 2014 Rapid gets a new three-spoke steering wheel with four trim options, namely Graphite-Metallic, Silver Brushed, Piano White and Piano Black. This is a review of the brand new Audi A3 sedan, which replaces the A4 as the new entry level saloon for the Ingolstadt carmaker. The variant reviewed is the 1.4 TFSI which features COD (cylinder on demand), direct injection and turbocharging technologies. It produces 140bhp with 250Nm of torque and sends the small German sedan from 0 to 100km/h in 8.4 seconds. There are other engine options for the A3 sedan at launch which include a 2.0 TDI and 1.8 TFSI. The 1.4 TFSI variant reviewed should be the volume seller when it touches down in Singapore. The review is quite positive. The cabin is said to feel a lot more expensive than its price tag and the driving experience also matches a much more expensive car as the refinement is fantastic. At the end of the review, the reviewer even commented that the A3 sedan is a pretty good alternative to the Audi A4.

2013 Skoda Octavia bags overall 2013 "Tow Car of the Year" award
SYF77 posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
The brand new Octavia III has won the overall 2013 "Tow Car of the Year award" in the UK. It also bagged the award for the "up to 1,424kg" category. Before I carry on, we are not talking about towing a broken-down car to the workshop but pulling a caravan. Caravanning is hugely popular in Britain. Auto Express teamed up with The Caravan Club and put 23 new cars through a series of tests to name the "Tow Car of the Year 2013". The award started just seven years ago. The Octavia that won the award is fitted with a 2.0-litre TDI that pumps out 150bhp with 320Nm of torque. Tipping the scale at 1,330kg (kerb weight), the Czech sedan is the lightest overall winner ever. The judges commented that the Skoda tows brilliantly and is extremely practical with a cargo space of 590 litres. It is good to drive and not costly to own. Most importantly, it proves that a great tow car doesn't need to be heavy, thirsty or expensive. There is no news regarding the Octavia III's availability in Singapore at the moment. -
2013 Skoda Octavia vRS unveiled ahead of Goodwood Festival of Speed
SYF77 posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Skoda has officially unveiled the top-of-the-range vRS version of the all new Octavia, which is planned for a public debut on 10th July at the Goodwood Festival of Speed held in England. The 2013 Octavia vRS will be available in both sedan and combi body styles. Engine options include the 220bhp 2.0-litre TSI gasoline engine and the 184bhp 2.0-litre TDI. Skoda offers a six-speed DSG transmission as an option for both engines. For the standard six-speed manual version, the petrol vRS does the century sprint in 6.8 seconds while the TDI needs 8.1 seconds. The 2013 Skoda Octavia vRS lineup comes with a sports suspension and sits nearer to the ground. Other goodies include an electronic XDS differential, start/stop function and Brake Energy Regeneration. There is a choice of four alloy rims with sizes ranging from 17 to 19 inches. Behind the rims are red brake calipers. The new vRS has a blackened grille, revised front and rear bumpers, chromed dual exhaust pipes, rear spoiler and bi-xenon head lights. On the inside, the sports sedan comes with a leather-stitched sports steering wheel, stainless steel pedals, sport seats and a redesigned instrument panel. -
Volkswagen is celebrating a million sales of the Scirocco with the launch of a Scirocco Million Edition. The figure takes into account the sales of the first two generations of Scirocco that were sold between 1974 and 1992. On the outside, the Scirocco Million is painted in exclusive 'Deep Black' metallic paint with two prominent decorative stripes, one on the bonnet and the other on the boot. It also comes with painted wing mirrors and 18-inch 'Interlagos' alloy wheels. The R-Line bodykit completes the exterior updates. The interior is fitted with standard black leather upholstery with contrasting orange stitching that is also found on the gear knob and handbrake. Stainless steel pedals and special Million-badged scuff plates round up the cosmetic upgrades. Under the hood, five engine options are available. The 1.4-litre TSI petrol have outputs of 122bhp or 160bhp while the 2.0-litre TSI produces 210bhp. The 2.0-litre TDI develops 140bhp or 177bhp. The Scirocco Million Edition will go into production in the later part of May 2013 and sadly to say, it will only be offered in China and hometown Germany. First Generation Second Generation

The current generation Skoda Superb was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in early March 2008. A car which has been in production for five years is akin to a man living for five decades and is in dire need to undergo a nip and tuck treatment. The wait is finally over as Skoda has released the official photos of the 2013 Skoda Superb facelift prior to its debut at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show in the second half of April. The revised Superb has a mildly modified front fascia sporting a new grille that looks similar to the recently released all new Octavia. There are some changes to the front bumper and headlamp cover as well. Most of the cosmetic surgery to the back where the taillights are completely revamped and appear to benefit from LED technology. The 2013 Superb also gets a re-shaped boot cover at the back. On the inside, the new Superb gets a new steering wheel and a more elegantly shaped gear stick. In terms of safety, the refreshed Czech saloon has nine airbags, three-point seatbelts, adjustable head restraints and Park Assist as standard. Engine options are expected to be carried over from the pre-facelift model - a range of TSI engines of capacity between 1.4-litre to 2.0-litre and TDI units from 1.6-litre to 2.0-litre displacements.

Previewed by the Audi A3 Concept at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, the production version of the A3 sedan will be making its global debut at the upcoming 2013 Shanghai Auto Show come April. Audi CEO, Rupert Stadler, commented that the new model will be an important derivative which will stimulate additional growth, especially in China and the U.S. Perhaps this explains the sedan's debut in Shanghai. The A3 sedan will be a direct competitor to the Mercedes CLA. The A3 sedan will be built at the country of launch. Chinese press reports that the A3 sedan will be assembled at the FAW-VW joint venture that also manufactures a variety of Audi models. However, I believe there will be other manufacturing sites around the world. Measuring about 4,400mm long by 1,840mm wide by 1,390mm tall, the baby sedan will be built upon VW's MQB platform. The engine lineup is expected to be carried over from the 2013 A3 hatchback. This means a range of TFSI petrol power plants ranging from 1.4-litre to 2.0-litre as well as 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre TDI options. S-Tronic transmission is available as an option on all models. Volkswagen has released the photos of the 2013 Golf Variant prior to its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show which will open its door in a few days' time. The Golf Variant is essentially an estate version of the popular Golf hatchback. The most practical version of the Golf will be launched alongside with the Golf GTI, GTD, e-Golf and the plug-in hybrid. Engine lineup is expected to be similar to the hatchback, which means 1.2-litre with 85bhp or 105bhp and 1.4-litre with 122bhp or 140bhp for the petrol options. Diesel choices include the 1.6-litre with 104bhp and 2.0-litre with 148bhp. Depending on which part of the world you are residing, the Golf Variant may also be called Golf Wagon, Golf Estate or Jetta SportWagen.

Images of the 2014 Audi A3 sedan has been captured for the first time during its outdoor testing in Europe. The test car is covered up in black and white body decal but we can still make out the general shape of the car. As a direct competitor to the recently-launched Mercedes CLA, the styling of the production model follows closely to the concept that made its debut nearly two years ago at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. The 2013 A3 sedan is expected to measure about 4.44m (L) x 1.84m (B) wide x 1.39m (H). This means Audi

After the Passat CC, VW is reportedly to be preparing the Golf CC for a 2015 launch. Like the Passat CC, the Golf CC will adopt a 'four-door coupe' styling. The newcomer is designed to take on the forthcoming Mercedes CLA. The Golf CC will be built upon the MQB platform that underpins the Golf. It will get a marginally longer version that will also underpin the Golf Estate and the upcoming Audi A3 saloon. The Golf CC will be fitted with a wide-opening hatchback tailgate to help improve access, similar to the Audi A5 Sportback. The boot capacity will be larger than the Golf but smaller than the current Jetta's. At launch, engine options will include a turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol with 120bhp and a 2.0-litre TDI with 150bhp. A hot GTI version will follow to challenge the CLA 45 AMG at a later date. The soon-to-be launched Audi A3 saloon, which is also under the VW stable, is often seen as a direct rival to the CLA. A multi-cornered fight is brewing slowly

Much has been said about the all-new 2013 Skoda Octavia. However, the Czech carmaker did not reveal the details regarding the engine lineup until now. At launch, the grown-up Skoda sedan will be powered by a slew of four turbocharged petrol and four turbocharged diesel engines. In summary, here's the global engine lineup for the 2013 Octavia: Petrol options - 1.2-litre : 86bhp with 160Nm of torque - 1.2-litre (Greentec) : 105bhp with 175Nm of torque - 1.4-litre (Greentec) : 140bhp with 250Nm of torque - 1.8-litre (Greentec) : 180bhp with 250Nm of torque Diesel options - 1.6-litre : 90bhp with 250Nm of torque - 1.6-litre (Greentec) : 105bhp with 250Nm of torque - 1.6-litre (GreenLine) : 110bhp - 2.0-litre (Greentec) : 150bhp with 320Nm of torque The Greentec label denotes the cars with lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions than the standard Skoda vehicles. They feature technologies such as brake energy recovery and start-stop system. Depending on the engine, the Octavia will be equipped with a five-speed manual, six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG transmission. The top-of-the range vRS variant will be launched at a later date.

After showing bits and pieces of the 2013 Skoda Octavia, the Czech automaker has finally revealed the new sedan in one piece. Anyone familiar with new Skoda Rapid will instantly recognise the new model as a skoda even with the logo covered. It is 90mm longer and 45mm wider than its predecessor and rides on a wheelbase that is 108mm longer. The MK3 Skoda has an evolutionary design whose side profile reminds me of the B5.5 Passat while the tail light design resembles those of the C6 Audi A6. Although the design elements are not new, the whole package comes across as a solidly put-together sedan that would do the VW Group proud. The interior has a redesigned three-spoke steering wheel together with a new gear stick. Panorama glass roof is available on the option list. The Octavia also has the best-in-class cargo capacity of 590 liters. Nine engines will be offered on the new Octavia but Skoda only confirmed two of them at the moment. They are the 1.8-litre TSI with 179bhp and the 1.6-litre TDI with 110bhp. All engines will be mated to a DSG transmission.

Skoda has released a set of new teaser images for its 2013 Octavia sedan. These images highlight the design of its grille, side mirror, C-pillar and LED tail light assembly. The only interior shot reveals the existence of steering-mounted paddle shifter, voice command buttons and a large infotainment screen. Skoda has indicated that the new Octavia will move upmarket with higher quality interior as the newly introduced Rapid will take over the segment currently occupied by the MK2 Octavia. The new generation Octavia will also gain in physical dimension to take on the big boys in the medium sized class such as the Camry and Accord. The Czech automaker is expected to unveil the new Skoda Octavia at the 2013 Geneva motor show in March. The new model is based on the same MQB platform as the Volkswagen Golf Mk7 and is expected to inherit a range of TSI four-cylinder petrol and TDI engines from it.

Although Audi is busy with the introduction of its 2012 A4 Allroad model at the 2012 Detroit Motor Show, they have something up their sleeve. And that is the 2013 Audi A6 Allroad which they have announced just recently in Germany. Looks like the Audi A4 Allroad will get a big brother. Audi has adopted its Allroad recipe for the A6 by taking the A6 Avant and making it ready for the urban jungle. If you were to really compare the A6 Avant with the A6 Allroad, the Avant is a sleeker-looking vehicle and the Allroad is more suited for some rough and tough driving. Firstly, the Allroad

Volkswagen is raising the benchmark for fuel economy in the UK with the introduction of the new Scirocco and Passat CC diesel range that benefit from the firm's BlueMotion Technology. All entry-level and GT trim Scirocco models fitted with the 2.0-litre diesel engine now feature BlueMotion Technology modifications which include Stop/Start and battery regeneration systems, thus helping to create the cleanest and most fuel efficient Scirocco to date. When combined with the DSG transmission, fuel economy for the diesel powered 140 HP Scirocco 2.0 TDI is improved from 51.4 mpg to 57.6 mpg UK on the combined cycle. CO2 emissions drop down from 145 g/km to 129 g/km. In GT trim, fuel economy for the 170HP 2.0 TDI Scicocco improved from 50.4 mpg to 51.4 mpg UK while CO2 emissions is reduced from 147 g/km to 144 g/km. The Passat CC line-up also sees BlueMotion Technology with regenerative braking and Start/Stop systems installed in existing diesel versions. The updates helped the 2.0-litre TDI 140HP Passat CC to achieve a combined 60.1 mpg UK (up from 50.4), while CO2 emissions are reduced to 125 g/km, down from 146 g/km. The more powerful 170HP version of the 2.0-litre diesel engine also boast improved figures with fuel economy hitting 51.4 mpg for the DSG equipped model and emissions down to 144 g/km.

Sunday Times journalist Gavin Conway has set a world record by driving a Volkswagen Passat 1,531 miles (2464 km) on a single tank of fuel from Maidstone, England to Calais. The Passat was fitted with VW's1.6 TDI (105 PS/ 250Nm) diesel engine with BlueMotion technology that includes a stop/start system for improved fuel-economy. The car on test was a standard production model with no modifications made. Conway used exactly 77.25 liters of diesel fuel on the drive which translate to a fuel-economy figure of 3.1 liter/100 km - way above the standard combined cycle rating of 4.4 liter/100 km (or 22.7km/l). For comparison, the Toyota Prius, with its much more complicated drivetrain, has a fuel consumption rating of 25.6km/l. The event was documented by representatives of the Guinness Book of World records who confirmed the record. The BlueMotion technology on the Passat also includes lowered ride height, low roll-resistance tires, aerodynamic bodywork and programmed battery charging. BlueMotion technology is also available on the Polo and Golf models. For readers
