Hi gurus, My 12yrs old Latio is experiencing a sort of rumbling noise from engine during cold start or at low rpm <1200 (move off from stationery) The noise disappear at cruising speed A workshop diagnose as tappet noise and recommend for top overhaul My car mileage is now 260K km and has never undergo any overhaul before and is left about 3 yrs (renewed coe for 5yrs in 2015) Is this the only option? will it lead to more problem if left unrepaired? Some may remember that my engine is also consuming engine oil and i top-up like 1L/2weeks Also, I just changed a second hand gearbox in Dec 2016...... Any advice for me? TIA.......

My car has a clattering or rattling sound in the engine when moving off from stand still. It happens when low rpm but if high rpm, there is no sound. I send to WS to check and they deduce 1 of the piston might need to do tappet adjustment. And to do that, the job is tedious and need long hours as they said need to align all 4 pistons timing. Nothing will happen except some performance loss if I don't wish to rectify it. However, lately the sound is getting louder. Will the engine get damaged if I continue to ignore the sound? Anyone with similar encounters care to share some comment? Thanks

Adjusting spark plug gap , cleaning the throttle, boosting the engine hp output, remapping the ecu are some of the most common topics that have been discuss many many times in this forum. Only one topic I reckon has never been discuss so far ( pl excuse me , I may have miss the discussion)- that is Valve Tappet Adjustments. If you have exprience the difference in engine performance after a good valve tappet adjustments - let us know.

hi bros,i need help!i am driving a mit galant yr2000.i have 2 major problem rite now..pls help if u could.thks!!! 1.my aircon is not very cold and sometimes got mood swing also,sometimes working,sometimes not working.if is not working,it just blow hot air.after ard 1 hour plus then it will start working again?wat is the problem?is it the compressor??any recommend place to go repair?and how much will the repair cost?? 2.my engine got very loud tappet sound.sound like a taxi engine.very irritating.like "tiak tiak" sound like that.i think should be the tappet.is it recommend to go do up the engine or just leave it.will it affect the fuel consumption?my current fuel consumption is abt 12.5 kilo per litre.any recommend place to do it up nicely and wats is the cost??? Feeling very sad now coz juz bought this car a fews month back.advice needed!!thks alot!!

Does any know how I can get rid of that "tappet" sound ... that iritating tit-tit-tat-tat sound that is coming from the engine ?

How often do we need to adjust our tappets ? The tech spec says 110,000km for my model, but I seems to hear this tick tick tick sounds during idle ... am I just over suspicious ?
