2. Burmese python swallows largest meal on record: A young deer heavier than itself. Experts at the Conservancy of Southwest Florida will soon be publishing an interesting study - one which includes its documentation of a 14.29-kilogram Burmese python swallowing a heavier 15.88-kilogram young white-tailed deer. According to a statement issued by the organisation, the discovery of the python was made in April 7, 2015 at the Collier-Seminole State Park. The python appeared "distended by a large food bulge." Wildlife biologists captured the animal for study. Later in captivity, the 11-foot female python became stressed and regurgitated its large meal. Experts believed the incident to be the largest predator-to-prey ratio ever documented for Burmese pythons, and possibly pythons in general. Additional observations and findings regarding the case will be published in the March 2018 issue of the journal Herpetological Review. Burmese pythons are snakes native to tropical South and Southeast Asia. They may have entered the United States through the pet trade and were either set loose or escaped from their owners. The pythons are considered an invasive species in southwest Florida where these snakes have negatively affected the area's native wildlife. Some studies suggest the pythons were 90 per cent responsible for the decline of small animals in the eastern Everglades. Discovering the deer in the python's stomach raised concerns that the snakes could even affect deer population by praying on the young. Efforts are currently underway to reduce python population by removing female breeding pythons to disrupt the egg-laying cycle and prevent new pythons from being born. http://www.asiaone.com/world/burmese-python-swallows-largest-meal-record-young-deer-heavier-itself

4. Woman admits having unmuzzled dog which bit little girl By Elena Chong A THREE-YEAR-OLD girl on an outing with her parents at Sentosa Resort was attacked by a an unleashed and unmuzzled Siberian husky. Part of little Matilda Eve Sail's left ear was torn and she had to be hospitalised for a night. She was attacked by the ferocious dog at Tanjung Beach at Sentosa on Sept 30 last year. The dog handler, Goh Boon Bee, 24, was hauled to court on Wednesday to face a police summons charge of being negligent with the husky. She pleaded guilty. The court heard that Matilda's father, Mr Jamie Sail, 41, saw an unleashed black and white Siberian husky dog charging towards his daughter and biting her on both sides of her head. He rushed towards them and chased the dog away. Goh's friend, Ms Toh Xiao Wei, 20, who was the dog owner, had asked Goh to take care of her pet that month. District Judge Shaiffudin Saruwan postponed sentencing to June 11 to allow Goh to consider compensating the girl's father. Matilda's medical bill amounted to $3,400. http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest%2BNews/Courts%2Band%2BCrime/STIStory_237279.html --------------------- May 14, 2008 Dog owner fined $2,000 By Elena Chong, Courts Correspondent A DOG owner was fined $2,000 on Wednesday and ordered to compensate $100 to a gardener who was bitten by his mongrel. Gary Yeo Eng Cher, 43, an entrepreneur, pleaded guilty to the offence which happened outside Fullerton Hotel at Fullerton Square on June 26 last year. The gardener, Mr Liew Eng San, 69, then working at the hotel, was bitten on his left thigh. A court heard that the gardener was trimming grass outside the hotel at about 7.50am that day when Yeo's leashed dog bit him. He shouted at Yeo who continued to walk off. Yeo later returned and approached Mr Liew who wanted to show him his injuries but Yeo ignored him. Mr Liew sought treatment and was given a day's medical leave. Yeo's lawyer, Mr Thomas Ng, said his client, who jogged daily with his dog Brie, deeply regretted the incident. Yeo could have been fined up to $5,000 under the Miscellaneous Offences (Public Order and Nuisance) Act. http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/Others_C20/Lite_%26_EZ_F15/gforum.cgi?do%3Dpost_write%3Bforum%3D15=Post+New
5. Thief who swallowed a ring jailed 1 1/2 years By Khushwant Singh AN ODD-job worker thought he had hit on the ideal way to swipe a diamond ring from a jeweller: he swallowed it, price tag and all. But Mohamad Azman Abdullah, 48, was caught right away, and handed to the police, who took him to hospital. At Tan Tock Seng Hospital, doctors inserted a long flexible tube down his throat and into his tummy, using instruments at the end to fish out the $2,689 sparkler and its gold setting. He had to stomach this uncomfortable procedure, called an endoscopy, which is usually done without anaesthesia. In court on Wednesday, Azman pleaded guilty to the theft and was jailed 1 1/2 years. What he did not know on the day he went to the Taka Jewellery kiosk at the Midpoint Orchard shopping centre last October was that the staff were watching him closely. Just a month before, they found several rings gone after Azman had stopped by, so their eyes were peeled. http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest%2BNews/...ory_213692.html
