  1. Juz serviced my old car, '89 Civic GL. Mechanic told me my engine sump drain plug internal screw thread no good already, thus always have oil drips. I told him to fix it but he said its a big job. Have to get new oil sump, then remove old sump and fix it back. Sounds easy??? There are a few items in way of the sump so its not going to be easy. Also will cost quite a lot to get new oil sump, gasket and drain plug. Anyone got any workshop who can re-tap the screw thread in situ and then machine a new drain plug for it??? I know this can be done, but must find the correct workshop. Please help my car is dripping wherever I go. I scare later 1 day the thread no more then the whole drain plug drop out, that will be in deep sh!t.
  2. Hi All, What is the labour charges in changing oil sump gasket? any bro change before? tks
  3. Planning to go for servicing within this mth thus thinking if replace the OE nut to a magnetic 1 will be useful. Any one had that in your ride? Wonder if it is really useful in sucking metal debris from EO.
  4. 1. Oil light came on. Check engine oil level and the engine oil level is OK. So not due to oil running low. 2, Oil light came on and persist. So took car to a workshop in Ubi for repair. 3. Mechanic jacked up car ....found oil sump leaking....gasket failed. So need to remove oil sump for new gasket and sealant. And need to change oil pressure switch. So left car at the workshop for repair, includes Engine Oil change service and to collect in the evening. Boss of workshop sms later: Hi Sir, tis is from the Workshop. Our man is checking through the car during servicing n find your clutch wearing out soon. Based on the wear rate, the vehicle milage should be approximately 140-150K. THe clutch pedal is giving quite a bit of squeaking sound as a result. Would U like to replace it? Thks. Is it possible to see the clutch disc or plate worn out through the oil sump removal and through the Flywheel?
  5. issit possible to 'upgrade' our car's oil sump to accomodate 1 quart more of oil? most cars run a 3.78litre capacity oil sump, would it be possible, and cost effective to change the pan to a larger capcacity one (ie 4.7litres) more oil means cleaner engines... practical mod?
  6. This is a discussion at BITOG which I consider the most important as it addresses oil temperature when the oil is at operating temperature. It hinges on this research: Zoz, Steve, et. al., Engine Lubrication Model for Sump Oil Temperature Prediction SAE Paper 2001-01-1073. http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/ultima...ic;f=4;t=000196 In summary, the faster you go (RPM higher) the hotter your engine, the heavier weight of oil you should use. Ambient temperatures contribute 0.3 deg C for every 1 deg C of ambient temperature. So for a car running at its operating temperature of 100 deg C and an ambient temperature of 30 deg C, oil temperature should be 109 deg C. Well, all this is in theory.
