  2. extracted from ST webby..... Bigger sum at age 55 By Cai Haoxiang Interest rates on all CPF accounts will be subject to a minimum rate of 2.5% p.a. -- ST PHOTO: MALCOLM MCLEOD THE new year will see the Central Provident Fund (CPF) requiring those turning 55 to leave a bigger amount in their Medisave accounts. From Jan 1, these members who want to withdraw the amount in excess of the minimum sum requirement must set aside $27,500, up from $22,500, in their Medisave. Balances in their Ordinary or Special Accounts exceeding the minimum sum of $123,000 will be used to top up the Medisave Account. The new Medisave Required Amount is to enable members to have enough savings to meet their old-age health-care needs, the CPF Board said on Wednesday. It also said members will continue to receive at least 4 per cent annual interest on a portion of their savings until the end of next year. These are for funds in the Special and Medisave Accounts (SMA) and the Retirement Account (RA). Ordinary Account savings get the minimum of 2.5 per cent mandated by law, from Jan 1 to March 31 next year. SMA savings are invested in Special Singapore Government Securities (SSGS), which earn an interest rate pegged to the 12-month average yield of 10-year Singapore Government Securities (10YSGS) plus 1 per cent, adjusted quarterly. http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_616737.html another "fabulous" old age planning for the needy but retaining more money with gahmen..... how many of us would actually fully utilized more than 80% on this non-withdrawal-able $$......
