While Singapore teens have been proven to do well in problem-solving, Singaporeans still fare poorly in spoken English and lack confidence in articulating their views, said Member of Parliament Hri Kumar Nair yesterday. While Singapore teens have been proven to do well in problem-solving, Singaporeans still fare poorly in spoken English and lack confidence in articulating their views, said Member of Parliament Hri Kumar Nair yesterday. Far too often, he shared on his Facebook page, he has attended meetings where Singaporeans kept silent, giving the impression they are ignorant. So, although Singapore teens scored well in the Programme for International Student Assessment (Pisa) released on Tuesday, beating students from 43 other economies in its problem-solving test, there is still room for improvement. Singaporeans he dealt with are mostly "hardworking, knowledgeable and have a deep sense of responsibility and commitment to their work", said the Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC MP. "But they are often let down by their standard of spoken English and a lack of confidence to persuade or articulate their views on their feet. Many employers I know share this view," the lawyer added. These are what he considers important aspects of education which Pisa does not test. 2. CNA news : PE: HDB should investigate community sites transfer in Aljunied GRC, says Tony Tan SINGAPORE: Presidential candidate Dr Tony Tan said the HDB should investigate the issue of transferring community sites in Aljunied GRC to the People's Association (PA) to ensure that proper procedures were followed. Speaking in response to reporters after visiting a market at New Upper Changi Road, Dr Tan said he is concerned if there was any unfairness in the transfer of the HDB owned sites. He wondered if this had been done intentionally, or whether it was a mistake. The Workers' Party Chairman Sylvia Lim had accused the HDB of abusing its power as land owner by transferring the management rights of 26 open spaces from the Aljunied-Hougang Town Council to the People's Association. Ms Lim added that the PA curtailed the ground presence of the elected WP MPs by warning residents who apply for permits to hold events at these sites not to invite the elected WP MPs or risk having their applications turned down in future. "It's important that justice and fairness should be done. Not only that but that the public should see that justice and fairness has been done," said Dr Tan. - CNA/cc So, the PE hopeful had spoken against HDB. Does he carry weight on this ? or just another NATO .............
  3. more of the same policies that has been carried out: 1. Higher and higher GST. 2. More expensive medical costs. Slow buildings of hospital beds. Yishun hospital took 20 years remember? 3. More expensive and more overcrowding transport. At the same time transport companies will reap even more profits. 4. More expensive housing. The young in the future will have to subsidise the old. The youth will regret this greatly. 5. Undeserving Ministers who cannot manage to handle their portfolios properly. 6. Overbudget in their projects and will be kept from our view. 7. Losing more of our investments. 8. More immigrants. Lower us to 4th class citizens. Singapore, you asked for it.
  4. (SEE ATTACHED TV Subtitles) ACTUAL WORDS from His platinum-fed mouth! 'Never lord it over the people we're looking after and serving. Always maintain a sense of humility and service. Never forget we are servants of the people, not their masters, and address the day-to-day bread and butter concerns. But we must also be in touch with people's sentiments and worries' Then again, would any rational person say "I am sorry to say that we have not lived up to responsibilities" when it's time to get votes and elections?

    MM has spoken

SM came out to say tell pple not to rock the foundation. See his message here. His message was clear. Singapore will not be what it is today if not for some of the past ministers who toiled and worked their heart and soul for the country. However, I can't say the same for the current batch of candidates. Anybody can build on foundation, whether PAP or opposition. 'We combed the whole of Singapore society to select those with the highest integrity and ability to chart the way forward for Singapore. We will never reach a point where we can be on auto-pilot so that any team can just take over. We are not living in Disney World,' said the 87-year-old Mr Lee, who is helming the Tanjong Pagar GRC and was first elected to the legislature in 1955. If they combed the whole of Singapore only to find Tin Pei Ling, I shudder to think what our future will be like. I truly salute the older generation for making Singapore what she is today. A job well done. But now, money has taken over the so called foundation, not heart. HDB prices is rising at a frightening pace. It only serves to deter the younger generations from buying. For those who already have one, it doesn't really matters if your HDB rose to $10m because you can own only one. Sell high need to buy high too. Only good for PRs when they pack their bags and return to their home countries. Those are the only ones who are benefiting from MBT's policy. Ministers' pay is skyrocketing faster than HDB prices, inflation and petrol prices add together. They don't know the least bit about the sufferings on the ground. They kept saying they understand. But how much do they understand anyway when they don't take public transport. They don't even stay in HDB. Frankly, I'm getting disillusioned by the PAP. In the past they built AFFORDABLE flats with lift landing only on 2 or 3 levels. As population ages, upgrading becomes necessary. Yet, they are devoiding this basic rights of citizens who helped to build this very country that is paying their salaries if they vote for the oppositions. This upgrading "carrot" is unscrupulous to say the least. Politics is a cruel game but it should NEVER be used at the expense of the people. There's nothing bad if the oppositions are voted in. What can they do? Destroy our houses? Hell, no. They will still do the same thing that the PAP has been doing for decades. Take care of the neighbourhood, repair anything that needs repairing and go to Meet-The-People sessions too. The only problem is they may oppose the PAP on their policies. That's the problem of the PAP and to commoners like us, it is not a problem at all. That will keep the ministers on their ball to come out with better policies. I know who I want to vote. Do you?
