Hi all, Was told by my regular WS after servicing that engine oil started to leak from the engine valve cover & plug seal of my Toyota Axio 1.5L 2007 model. The mechanic showed me the signs which was a streak of oil flowing down and some solid deposits at the valve cover. He quoted about $400 plus including labour for the replacement. Questions: (1) Is the quote reasonable? (2) Any recommended WS if answer to (1) is no? (3) As the lifespan of my Axio is only about a year plus, should I go for re-con parts? Thank you.

HI, asking for a friend. Very hard to find a relevant search topic. His 528i has smoke coming out of bonnet. Other than R2D which I'm aware of, are there any specialist WS in other parts of singapore? The beemer fans are welcome to reply hehe

Hi hope the experts here can advise. What is the procedure if want to send car to 3rd party for servicing? 1. Do I just tell them I want to do xx000km servicing then they know what to check? 2. Or I have to specifically tell them what are the parts I want them to check? 3. This also means the technician probably may not know how to service/check my car if is not the common vezel qasqhai type? 4. If they find a part defected, doesn't mean they have the suitable spare parts and I may waste time having to make another trip to buy for them to replace? 5. Worse they may not even know how to replace the spare parts?

I just went for my 1K servicing yesterday at MBM Wheelpower, and as I've only been to an AD service centre (Kah Motors), I wonder if my experience yesterday is typical of most/all PI workshops. I went to the reception counter, and was told to go to the workshop myself and look for their service advisor. So I was kind of walking about outside the workshop because everyone there is just busy going about their work and I had no idea who I'm supposed to look for. Finally a kind gentleman saw me looking rather lost and came over to help me. This is very different from my AD experience, because at the AD service centre, all I had to do was pass my service booklet to the receptionist, and they would send one of their service advisors out to me. No confusion whatsoever on my part. Is this typical of PI workshops, where customers have to look for service advisors themselves, or is it just this particular workshop? I have to say, I would much rather pay a small premium for the kind of service the AD workshops provide - online service appointments, cleaner and more spacious parking lots, free Wifi, more choices in terms of service centres, and no need for me to wander into their workshops looking for an advisor I do not know.

Servicing workshops in JB for Honda Odyssey (COE car)
Doppel posted a topic in Maintenance & Repairs
Dear all, A friend has a Honda Odyssey (just renewed COE) and to save some cost, he is thinking of sending his car to JB for servicing. 1. Would the Honda's authorized service centers in JB accept Singapore cars? 2. Any third party workshops that are familiar with Hondas to recommend? Thanks. -

Some odd rambliings: Specialty workshops, Subarus and ZR rated tires
Rigval posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
One of the activities that most motor heads do during the weekends is that they congregate their friendly neighbourhood specialty mechanic shop. There they exchange views and look at each others ride while having the mechanic change their engine oil or brake pads. But some go there just to meet up with friends. Usually the shop that is frequented by them are specialist tuner type shops and not the average workshop. Take for example the workshop in the photo above, it is filled with Subarus as well as a few fast Mitsubishis. The fun thing about specialty shops like these is that there are bound to be rare cars brought in by customers. For example, in the pic above we can see a Subaru Impreza WRX Type RA from the mid 1990s. These type RA models of the early or classic Impreza were a good 30-40kgs lighter than the ordinary WRX of its day and was the first that utilized the roof scoop to ventilate the interior of the car. It was a homologation special for Group N rallying and was not produced in large numbers compared to its usual WRX stablemates. These older Imprezas are slender machines and feel nimble and light on their feet unlike the newer ones, which have crash impact beams, airbags, and every other modern feature that adds weight. 280bhp in one of these is like having 320bhp in a newer model. I caught sight of a burnt out Impreza WRX STI Spec C Type RA. A mouthful, but that rare Impreza had basically caught fire and the whole front end was totaled by it. I am not going to show that photo here as it is a painful sight to see but I do want to share with you the ZR rated Bridgestone tire that had partly burnt, exposing the insides. From the photo below you can see the amount of steel wire required to make sure it can withstand speeds over 240km/h. You could say that there is an equal amount of steel and rubber in a very high performance tire and that is also the reason why old tires are mainly recycled for their steel and only partly for their rubber. Recycled tire rubber do not have much use aside from making rubber mulch that are used for playground flooring. This flooring is somewhat soft so that kids have some impact cushioning when they fall from see-saws or slides. That said, I now know that I am in very safe 'hands' knowing the fact that the ZR rated tires that most of us use look like they are extremely strong based on the photo above.-
