Strong hints of Audi (Q7) and maybe even the current Civic Sedan. And the extended LED DRL, which combined with the long chrome stripe across the entire bonnet is a board move... Let see Hyundai will become the trend setter this time... Hyundai Motor revealed first images of its next-generation Sonata, showcasing a sporty four-door-coupe look. The eighth-generation Hyundai Sonata embodies Hyundai's Sensuous Sportiness design concept. It is a fully transformed vehicle following the release of the seventh-generation Sonata in March 2017. "Sonata celebrates innovative coupe-like silhouette," said Sang Yup Lee, senior vice president and head of the Hyundai Design Center. "A short overhang, sloping roofline and low deck lid create a balanced feel, and Hyundai's signature chrome accent now goes all the way into the hood, making it look even longer. It also has LED lighting built in. These cues bring the Sensuous Sportiness design to life." The all-new Sonata takes its inspiration from the award-winning Le Fil Rouge concept, which debuted at the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show. Like the concept car, the production Sonata attracts immediate attention with its Sensuous Sportiness design. Sensuous Sportiness is defined by the harmony between four fundamental elements in vehicle design: proportion, architecture, styling and technology. Sonata has a distinct tension on the side using a harmonious blend of layered crisp body lines and pure volumes. Concave and convex forms are also carefully orchestrated to provide a sexy, coupe-like character. The new Hyundai Sonata has a much sportier look than its predecessor, with a 30 mm lower height and a width extended by 25 mm. Its wheelbase is enlarged by 35 mm, and its whole length by 45 mm. The new Sonata's frontal section is defined by two elements: a bold, voluminous shape evoking a smooth sphere and a cleanly demarcated hood. Furthermore, the Digital Pulse Cascading Grille, which resembles the grille of a sports car with its rhythmic visuals, is sleekly connected to the hood, strengthening the overall perception of the front. In particular, the Daytime Running Lights, embedded with Hidden Lighting Lamps-the first for a Hyundai vehicle-are a chief design innovation that incorporates state-of-the-art lighting technology, forming the Sonata's light architecture. The Hidden Lighting Lamps appear to be of a chromic material when switched off and become dramatically lit when turned on. The light architecture was initially revealed through Hyundai's HDC-2 concept car at the Busan Motor Show in June last year. It was created by fleshing out the form of the lamp and making it into a powerful design element. Along with the Sensuous Sportiness concept, the light architecture defines the design identity of future Hyundai cars. The side sections of the Sonata are accentuated by the light architecture, which connects two chromic lines seamlessly linking the windows and daytime running lights. Through these two characteristic lines, the Sonata effuses an athletic and elegant charm. The all-new Hyundai Sonata has a wide, layered long hood, a very low stance and a sleek roofline. The feeling of width is also achieved with ultra-wide taillights. The light architecture is also applied to the interior space with the ambient mood lamp illuminating dashboard and doors. In the interior, the instrument panel is rich and modern, and the recognizable winged shape is inspired by a Stealth aircraft. This shape almost levitates or floats when looked at, and this philosophy carries into the long armrests. Satin chrome accents enhance this effect. Designers compressed the height of the dashboard and HVAC vents as much as possible to aid the light-weight feeling, while modern, light fabric colors and leathers provide a fresh and freeing ambience for the driver. The clean and sleek design is carried through the center-gauge cluster display. Designers aimed to alleviate the distracting large screens featured in many luxury cars today and instead threaded the two displays together on the 2020 Sonata, using a unique S curve. These displays are seamless, with no parting lines, and have capacitive touch buttons. Additional features include a satin chrome accent on the steering wheel, which looks like an aircraft yoke, and shift-by-wire transmission controls to free up storage space.

Hyundai's new technology cuts a hybrid's gearchange timing by 30%
chitchatboy posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Hyundai Motor Group has announced that it has developed a “world-first technology” that improves gear-shift efficiency for hybrids. Developed in-house and set to go into production soon, the new technology is called Active Shift Control (ASC) and the Korean company claims that it can reduce gearshift timing by 30% , improving the driving experience and fuel ecomony at the same time. In its press release, the new ASC claims the new technology increases durability of the transmission by minimizing friction during gear shift, which in turn is montiored 500 times per second, “precisely adjusting the transmission rotation speed for faster shift times,” By aligning the rotational speeds of the engine and transmission gear shift times are reduced by up to 30 percent from 500 milliseconds to 350 milliseconds. Despite quicker shift times, ASC is said to deliver smoother gear changes as well. The first model to feature ASC will be the new Sonata Hybrid which has been launched in Korea.-

Here's a sneak preview of the new eighth-generation Hyundai Sonata photographed in South Korea. As seen on Carscoops, the new Sonata is expected be the same car as the successor for the European i40 sedan. Not much else is known about car other than rumors that the new Sonata could get a N variant. It sounds unlikely but a N Line model with a more aggressive bodykit and chassis upgrades could be a possibility. The car is estimated to hit the South Korean market in the coming weeks.

http://www.autoblog.com/2014/09/22/hyundai-sonata-bisimoto-sema/ "This year Bisimoto's tuners are teasing their latest wild creation by starting with a normal 2015 Sonata and turning the wick up to 708 hp thanks to a long list of engine mods. The key in this massive injection of power is taking the regular 2.4-liter Theta-II four-cylinder engine and doing everything necessary so that it can actually withstand so much additional strain. That means introducing forged pistons and connecting rods and an improved valvetrain with new cams, plus a high-boost turbocharger to really up the ante. It's all then mated to a six-speed manual to get things rolling. After hundreds of hours of testing, failure analysis and prototyping, 18 new products will be engineered and produced in house to produce 708 horsepower from the Sonata," said Bisi Ezerioha, owner of Bisimoto Engineering in Hyundai's release." Imagine the Sonata taxi in SG with 708HP :D

Hiaz.......after all the reading all the car accident in MCF. Finally its my turn. Ths day finally came. The time was 5.30pm / 05th Feb 2011. Was sending my parents-in-law home from toa payoh to jurong east. My car have already stop at the toa payoh lorong 6 filter lane....looking out for traffic going to the TPY south flyover. Was a good 2 second after i have stopped before the dotted line, until a vios ram us from the back. Pushing our car forward a good car length....right into in-coming cars!!!! Thank god the in-coming car manage to stop in time....orelse...... . i was the driver and FIL was the front passenger, MIL and wify was behind, fully belted up. MIL was ok, but Wify hit the head against the front seat and bounch backwards. Head was in pain but gradually subsided later. I think its called wipslasp ???? (somebody pls enlighten me on this). The other driver was mid thirties and look shell shocked. Keep banging his hand against his head and said sorry. Until i open my car door and showed him my crying wify...his face turn green!!! I immediately said maybe we should call ambulance???? Wify said its ok no need....so didnt call. We exchange particulars. Duno why he didnt bring his driving license, so i wrote down his ic, address, name, contact number. Our car damage dont look too serious and i took a few photos. But he didnt take any photos! Advise me to go repair and claim cash from him. Later on he called and said if claim more than 3k, go claim his insurance. Hold up traffic slightly for about 10 mins and drove off. i manage to still go jurong east and back. Even pass him at PIE towards jurong. Wah kaoz....his car can still move. And without front car plate. This is the first time I am claiming somebody's insurance, so some kind bros please advise me what to do. I MUST REPORT TO OUR OWN CAR INSURANCE FIRST RIGHT ? Car + insurance is under wify's name and im one of the name driver. Our Insurance is Tokio Marine but the hotline in the website is not in use anymore. WTF!!! Office number is not contactable. There is however a list of approved workshop, which i havent tried to call. Should i call any of them and send the car in first ? I assume it will be on monday ? What about wify's possible injury ? Should i go make a police report and bring wify go see doctor first ???? Private clinic or govt SGH or even Mt E ???? Do i do everything now within 24hrs or wait until monday ? i doubt workshops are open tomorrow being a long CNY weekend. MCF bros pls advise.

Hi, I just got my driving license last month and would like to purchase a used car for both family purpose and also gain some practical skills. I stay with wife, a one-year old baby and parents. Hence I believe a big car is necessary but not MPV as it is to big for newbie. As the family is big, I think a 2.0L is a must, thus I have shortlisted Kia Magentis, Hyundai Sonata, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Nissan Cefiro, Mazda 6 and Subaru Legcy. Prefer to buy a car registered in 2016 or 2017 because eventually I may have to buy a MPV when second baby comes. Please share your opinion on these cars: i.e interior space (2 adults and a safety seat in rear row), FC, reliability and cost. Thank You!

New Hyundai Sonata passes crash test with flying colours (VIDEO)
Nic_low posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Hyundai has shown us the latest Sonata a while back. While the changes on the skin aren't revolutionary by any standard, the new car's safety rating has been upped a notch. Just recently, the 2015 Sonata has been awarded the Top Safety Pick+ award by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The fact that Hyundai cars weren't best known for their safety and the previous Sonata only managed a 'marginal' rating makes the award even more notable. Hi guys, Thinking of changing my current 3yrs ride, Avante 1.6manual.... driven 100,000km++.... Hee... Overall, Avante is good to drive, but maybe I'm getting older, more uncle liao, legs getting tired from too much manual driving.... Thus decided to look into a good reliable 5-6yrs old car...... Test drive both Sonata and Cefiro..... Maybe the 2nd hand unit Cefiro offered by the dealer was nosier, which is a surprise... Louder than my Avante... The Sonata meanwhile is super super quiet, for a 5yrs old, not bad... Any other comparisons btw this 2? 1) FC 2) power for both 2.0 3) Maintenance I actually find Sonata slightly more responsive. But Cefiro more nice in interior and looks good on the outside, and of coz more expensive. Cheers guys

Hyundai unveiled the new 2015 Hyundai Sonata at the New York Auto Show wearing a bold new design as part of the new Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language - an evolution of the original fluidic sculpture design language that perfectly expresses Sonata's premium look and excellent value. The 2015 Hyundai Sonata will go on sale early this summer in the U.S.A. I believe the American model would not make it to local shores, although it provides a hint of an all new i45 for Singapore. The design of the Sonata matures for the 2015 model year with a larger, more refined grille with a wide air intake defines the face of the 2015 Sonata. The coupe-like roofline remains, but it is balanced by a larger window graphic that emphasises the roomier interior. In SE trim, the Sonata's exterior styling includes standard LED daytime running lights, 16-inch alloy wheels, a rear lip spoiler and chrome surround for the day light opening. The premium interior plays a special emphasis on ergonomics. For example, intuitive buttons and controls are placed on the centre stack - angled toward the driver - for easier accessibility. The height of the display screen for the audio display or 8.0-inch navigation system and instrument cluster are optimised for visibility and reside on the same plane to enhance readability during a quick glance. Sonata Sport 2.0T receives a unique interior featuring a D-cut steering wheel and paddle shifters while the sport instrument cluster with six o'clock needle position hints at the improved performance from the more responsive turbocharged engine. Hyundai continues its all four-cylinder engine lineup for the 2015 Sonata. A revised 2.4-litre Theta II GDI four-cylinder engine powers SE, Limited and Sport models. The 2.4-litre four-cylinder produces 185 horses and 241Nm of torque. A revised 2.0-litre Theta II turbocharged GDI powers the Sport 2.0T models. The 2.0-litre turbocharged engine is optimised for lower RPM drivability and produces 245bhp and 352Nm of torque. Both Theta engines are paired to a six-speed Shiftronic automatic transmission.

Hyundai 'baby' Sonata leaked prior to 2013 Shanghai Auto Show
RchLuvSlly posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Despite the recent massive recalls of Hyundai cars, the South Korean automaker keeps on trying to attract customers with its vehicle lineups. This time, it's the 'baby' Sonata's turn to amaze customers with its styling and features. Officially known as the Mingtu, the Chinese media prefer to call it the Sonata Lite. Regardless of what the more appropriate name is, the car looks quite attractive indeed. Judging from the leaked image, the Mingtu sports some visual styling cues that come from its bigger brother, the original Sonata. Yet, it has its own uniqueness to show as well. The headlamps, for example, are not the same as those of its bigger brother. Also, on the front bumper, there're LED daytime running lights ready to assist the car in terms of illumination. The Hyundai Mingtu is actually intended to occupy the gap that exists between the Sonata and the Elantra in a new segment in the Chinese car market. Rumour has it that this 'baby' Sonata will feature both 1.8 and 2.0-litre engines along with a six-speed manual or an automatic transmission. The image of the Mingtu can be seen on a billboard next to Hyundai's stand in the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show. If you can't wait to see this little baby with your own eyes, don't miss out the event that will start opening its doors to the press on the 20th April 2013.-

In 2009, Hyundai and KIA had to recall 700,000 units of their models due to defective brake switches. Unfortunately, not learning from their experiences, these South Korean automakers repeat their mistake and this time, it's even worse. They now have to recall a total of 1.6 million units of cars they have produced due to the exact same problem. The brake switch defect may prevent the brake lamps from illuminating even when the brake pedal is actually stepped on. Of course, this is a big deal as it may trigger rear-end collisions. In addition to that, the defect may fail to cancel the cruise control feature while braking, prevent the push-button starter from functioning, and may even block the gear shift in the neutral position. Both KIA and Hyundai will start contacting dealers and customers of the affected models in June 2013 and will provide necessary replacements free of charge. The list of the affected models is as follows: - 2007 KIA Sedona - 2007-2009 Hyundai Tucson - 2008-2009 Hyundai Veracruz - 2007-2010 KIA Rondo - 2007-2010 KIA Sportage - 2007-2010 Hyundai Elantra - 2007-2011 KIA Sorento - 2007-2011 Hyundai Santa Fe - 2010-2011 KIA Soul - 2010-2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe - 2011 Hyundai Sonata - 2011 KIA Optima
