Here's a sneak preview of the upcoming Volkswagen Golf's interior
chitchatboy posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
During its recent Annual General Meeting, Volkswagen teased us with a digital the interior of the new Golf but now spy photographers can show us the real thing. As published by Carscoops, the Golf's interior is very different from today's model. Adopting a minimalist interior like most of the newer cars today, the dash features two large screen, one as the instrumental cluster and one for the infotainment system. A third smaller screen seemed to have been placed in between the aircon vents to display the climate control's status. Elsewhere, we can see a new steering wheel and new door panels with aluminum trim. The new car is set to be revealed in October and according to the German company, the car will once again “set the benchmark in the compact class.” In particular, they said the car will have class-leading comfort and connectivity as well as good fuel efficiency and low CO2 emissions. They will be available with mild- and plug-in hybrid variants and the plug-in hybrid models will be able to travel up to 80 km on electricity alone.- 1 comment

Fascination no figures can express The mighty eight-cylinder engine in the new Audi S5 is closely related to the high-revving mid-mounted engine of the new Audi R8 sports car. To suitably match the character of the grand tourer, in the S5 it develops 260 kW (354 bhp) at 7,000 rpm. This is combined with an extremely flat torque curve: the maximum torque of 440 Nm is already available from 3,500 rpm. But more importantly, at only 2,000 rpm drivers already have 85 percent of the full torque at their disposal. The effect is sheer exhilaration: no matter at what engine speed the driver presses the accelerator, the A5 charges forward with breathtaking pace. Back to the figures: sprinting from stationary the S5 reaches the 100 km/h mark in 5.1 seconds, and in just 19.1 seconds it breaks through the 200 km/h barrier. As a matter of form, we should note that the top speed is governed to 250 km/h. However, no measurement can truly convey the outstanding free-revving character, the instant response, the continuous power build-up or the thrilling sound of the eight-cylinder engine. High-performance in a compact form This V8 with a displacement of 4,163 cm3 belongs to Audi

A genuine case of forgetfulness or plain chow kuan? [shakehead] MCF bros who are part of the "Ramen's 11" better return to pay up or else the next time you frequent this joint, you may find your photographs taken via any CCTVs being pasted on the restaurant walls... Said the STOMPer: "Eleven office workers came into Ajisen at Changi City Point for lunch on May 24. "I was working at the shop and the staff were all very busy and shorthanded during peak hours. "We were shocked to realise that the eleven office workers left the shop without paying for their food. "Such a disgrace! Currently, automakers use head-up displays to project important vehicle information (speed, navigation directions, etc.) on the windshield, keeping the driver's eyes focused on the road, where they belong. General Motors is hard at work developing its next-generation heads-up technology, and we were given a preview yesterday of what sort of new features to expect in the coming years. This new concept, developed in partnership with Carnegie Mellon and the University of Southern California, uses an augmented reality system to display head-up information across the entire windshield. Never heard of augmented reality? Sure you have. When you're watching a football game and images appear on the screen to indicate lines on the playing field, that's augmented reality. GM feels that this technology will be a good way to expand upon current heads-up systems without being too distracting for drivers. GM's new concept uses an array of vehicle sensors and cameras to collect data and project images directly onto the surface of the windshield. For example, if you're driving in dark foggy conditions, this technology can highlight the lines of the road. By pairing these functions with existing night vision technology, the heads-up system can identify and highlight animals or people along the side of the road. It's all about improving safety, not only for the driver and passengers, but for pedestrians, too. What's more, this new tech can work with a car's navigation system to give more precise directions, highlighting actual road signs or buildings to show drivers where they should be going. Don't expect to see this technology anytime soon, however

The Mercedes-Benz F800 Style concept car that'll debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month is highly-touted by Mercedes-benz's press release scribes for its green-car tech, but what's probably of greater interest to most of you is its styling, which is everyone's first peek at what the next-generation CLS-Class sedan is going to look like. To that end, get ready for a nose section whose grille apes that of the SLS AMG, plus enough flame-surfaced bodywork to make one envision Chris Bangle, sporting a set of Groucho glasses to mask his true identity, clandestinely moonlighting at Benz. The rear doors are sliders, because it's a concept, and you need to give the people a clear view into the swoopy, sci-fi passenger cabin. Props to Mercedes PR for gamely making it sound as if there's an actual practical application for those doors, though (see the attached press release). Mercedes-Benz also touts the concept's flexible powertrain platform. The realistic option is a plug-in hybrid system that's basically an offshoot of the V6 light-hybrid setup found in the S400 sedan. Mercedes says this new plug-in gas-electric system, which is good for over 400 combined horsepower, gives the car an EV-only driving range of 18 miles. The automaker has announced that a new plug-in system is headed to the next-gen S-Class, so don't dismiss the F800's hybrid setup as trendy green pandering. Save that cynicism for the concept's other powertrain option: a compact fuel cell/electric setup evolved from the one used in the current F-Cell cars. We have no doubt that the technology itself is genuinely impressive, and we're sure news of its development will be a hit with all the jet-setters at the next snowbound climate change conference. From a mass-production, real-person's-car standpoint, expect to see the fuel cell system in Benz showrooms right after Mercedes intros a 700-horsepower inline 3-cylinder that runs on unicorn milk. Alas, we digress. The F800 concept also introduces two new technologies that will doubtless appear in upcoming models. Distronic Plus Traffic Jam Assistant is an enhanced version of Mercedes' active cruise control system, which can now steer the car through curves as long as it's traveling under 25 mph. Neat. Also new is the Pre-Safe 360-degree system, which expands the existing Pre-Safe collision detection/mitigation system to the rear of the car. Now, if Pre-Safe senses that a rear-end impact is imminent, it'll apply the brakes in a bid to keep the car from getting into an additional chain-reaction accident involving other cars or pedestrians. We'll be in Geneva to see the sheet come off the Mercedes-Benz F800 Style in person, and will have plenty of firsthand observations and live photos then. For now, feast your eyes on the gallery below, and check out the Mercedes PR included after the jump.

From UK's AutoExpress online: "In the current issue of Auto Express magazine, we reveal images of Volvo's V90. Set to make its debut as a concept at the Detroit Motor Show in January, the new V90 will go on sale in the UK in 2005. But insiders are promising the newcomer will be worth the wait, with practicality to shame a big MPV, classy styling, V8 power and even a 4x4 off-road version. The new car will only be available as a load-lugger and will become the flagship of the Swedish firm's range - sitting above the S80 saloon and aimed at the BMW 7-Series, Mercedes S-Class and Audi's all-new A8. The Volvo will offer all the performance and luxury of these German rivals but will also have a crucial advantage - more space than most vans! Currently, the company's biggest estate, the V70, has the largest carrying capacity in its class, but the V90 will increase the luggage space by more than 10 per cent to a massive 1,900 litres with the seats folded. There will be plenty of features to make load carrying easier, too, including a sliding shelf to double the load deck and an electrically operated tailgate, making it easy to open the hatch if you have your arms full. While this will prove popular with Volvo's stereotypical antique-dealer owners, the estate also has the family driver in mind, too. Seven seats will be standard on all UK versions and, unlike the last V90, the rear row of seats will be forward facing for safety reasons. If you only need to carry four, the rearmost seats can be folded away and the centre of the middle row folded to create two limo-like luxury 'armchairs' for passengers in the back. Despite its practicality, Volvo's stylists have been careful to avoid boxy look of the car's predecessor, which was axed in 1998. The classy lines give a broad-shouldered look, and the sloped tailgate results in a sleeker rear, without sacrificing too much load capacity. The front sees the greatest change, though, with clear cues taken from much-loved models of the Fifties and Sixties. The 'VOLVO' badge lettering stretches across the entire width of the raised bonnet line, in a similar way to the old PV455 and 121 'Amazon', while round headlamps have been incorporated behind clear covers. However, it'll take more than this to impress BMW and Mercedes buyers - the V90 will need performance and power too. Entry-level models will be propelled by a new 225bhp 3.0-litre V6 or a 3.2-litre turbodiesel, which has been developed in conjunction with Peugeot. These engines will also be used in the other Volvo models including the S60, and will eventually find their way into Jaguar models, too. The range-topper will have the biggest powerplant ever fitted to a Volvo. The 4.0-litre V8 is being developed with the help of Yamaha, and despite its 300bhp output, it promises to be the most fuel efficient in the class. The six-cylinder versions will be available with front-wheel drive, and this platform will also be used with the next-generation of the Jaguar S-Type. However, the V8-powered V90 will only be mated to a 4x4 transmission and an adjustable air suspension system which promises the level of safety and refinement buyers expect. There will also be a Cross Country version of the car with raised ride height and chunky styling to take on the likes of BMW's X5 and Merc-edes' planned GST 4x4. And you thought Volvo estates were boring!" Now that'll be one interesting Volvo!
