  5. Freaking pissed off this morn... just wondering if any folks here encountered similar situations before. I was at this red light junction while driving to office this morn, it turned green.. The moment it turned green, the taxi behind me honked and held his honk... !!!! As if i'm the bloodiest kind of kayu driver Come on la.. I'm not in a F1 race or something!!! I am not obligated to cheong off the moment the light turns green man... Really dun know if that goondu knows what reaction time is!!The car beside me have not even moved off as well... Maybe the idiot wants to rush off to lao sai!! but that's really not my bloody problem man!! As he over took me, the old monkey gave me all sorts of angry and dramatic hand gestures, this old man that looks like a monkey. Next junction/s lights turned red, lan lan, monkey stopped next to me.... I just turned to look at him... not the threatening kinda gangster look, I just wanna see his irritating face, dunno why.... He just sat there, cowed and lost his previous bravado... knn coward man !! What saved the day was the passenger, this office exec, mid to late 20s, sitting at the back touching up her makeup... she must have sensed the tension, just looked up and gave me a sweet smile... Anger subsided... Pray tell me if i'm in the wrong ... if you think so.... The last I recall as road users, we are NOT IN THE WRONG if we dun speed off once the lights turn red?? isn't it?
  6. Good that many singaporeans now no longer think angmoh tuaki. This is good progress n maturity of Singaporeans! Pat ourselves on the back for finally grown up. www.todayonline.com/Voices/EDC120511-0000072/Where-are-the-friendly-Singaporeans-I-knew Where are the friendly Singaporeans I knew? Letter from Brian Nelson 04:46 AM May 11, 2012 HAVING visited Singapore, one of our favourite destinations, many times in the past 25 years, my wife and I were shocked at the deterioration in attitudes towards tourists. The signs were already there on our last visit four years ago. The first thing we noticed as elderly people, particularly when using the Mass Rapid Transit, was that the youth have no respect for the elderly and the seats reserved for them and pregnant or handicapped people. It is also dangerous getting on and off the train when one is shoved out of the way time and again. Another observation is that nobody smiles or returns a greeting any more. Taxi drivers, particularly, used to be a wealth of information and eager to point out areas of interest but are now, mostly a surly lot. Service has also deteriorated in shops and restaurants, where many of the staff can hardly speak English, are rude and abrupt. As for the words "please" and "thank you", they do not exist. It will not be long before it becomes just a rat race, like in many other cities. Has progress taken away Singapore's soul, the essence of being human, of recognising one another? Your city is beautiful, your buildings tall and proud, yet to walk along the streets and see the surliness of a face is disheartening.
  7. He woke up with a start, covered with sweat. His wife was shaking him. "Wake up Dear! You are having a nightmare. You were tossing, turning and mumbling and waving your arms in the air. What is it?" He looked around him and was relieved to see his same familiar world. His wife's face came into focus. "I have been having these nightmares of facing these voters. The nightmares are getting worst as they are asking really difficult questions." "There was this middle age guy who said that his 68 year old mother had lost her cleaning job at a hawker center and was replaced with a young man from the PRC and asked me for advice." "He was not happy when I said his mother should either go for retraining to improve her productivity or retire and get maintenance from him." "And then there was this chap who said that Singapore and Hong Kong are the world's most competitive economies. How come Hongkong had a minimun wage and we do not have one?" "Somebody else stood up and asked me if it was true that our Singaporean workers had one of the longest work hours in the world." "And there was this idiot who asked me if the UBS Report was accurate that the average purchasing power of Singaporeans in 2010 was less than people in Kuala Lumpur and only slightly better than Bogota in South America. I told him he could go and live in Bogota in that case." "Another guy asked if it was true that our low income group saw hardly any increase in their wages over the last few years. He mentioned that the UBS report showed our average wages to be the same level as Moscow 's in 2010 . Again he wouldn't accept my explanation that having a job was better than being jobless." "And they wanted to beat me up when I told this 50 year old guy he did not look hard enough when he was unemployed a year back. He insisted that people are discriminating against older workers. I said it could not be since there are a lot of old ministers in our cabinet and retired ministers, civil servants and generals could easily find re-employment in statutory boards, GLCs and TLCs. " "Well it all goes with the territory. That's why they pay you so much. Why don't you do something to distract your mind from all these problems." "Yes you are right, Dear. I need to do something to make me happy." He reached out, opened a drawer and opened a well thumbed folder of documents and smiled. "Please Dear! You should not look at your CPF statements so often. It is very sway"
