SINGAPORE - A self-employed man was sentenced to three weeks in jail on Monday for slapping teenage blogger Amos Yee outside the State Courts last month. Neo Gim Huah, 49, was charged in court on Monday. He was not represented and gave a long mitigation plea in Chinese, explaining why he did it. He told the court earlier he wanted to teach Yee a lesson. Neo, who runs his own air-conditioning and electrical engineering business, said he had taken offence at portions of the video posted online by Yee which he found disrespectful to Singapore's founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew. He closely monitored the case and intended to confront and slap the blogger before his first two court appearances as he felt that the teenager's actions had portrayed Singapore in a negative light. Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Winston Man said Neo initially restrained himself and did not confront Yee until his third court appearance on April 30 when he realised the teenager had flouted his bail conditions. Neo also believed that it would be difficult for the criminal justice system to deal effectively with Yee because of his age. On the afternoon of April 30, he waited at the State Courts for Yee to arrive. He knew the media was present when he slapped the blogger, and deliberately committed the offence as he wanted the assault to be publicised "so that the world at large would know that the victim was being taught a lesson''. Neo was arrested at about 2am the next day. Arguing for a sentence of two weeks' jail, DPP Man said Neo's offence was pre-meditated and featured a strong element of vigilantism, which undermined law enforcement mechanisms and the criminal justice system. "Public confidence in law enforcement mechanics and the criminal justice system will also be eroded if there is a widespread perception that it is acceptable to take the law into one's own hands and resort to violence in order to address a perceived injustice,'' he said. Neo said in his mitigation letter that Yee had been disrespectful to Singapore's founding father and insulted him, making all of Mr Lee's contributions "worthless''. He said Yee, whom he described as a "clever child'', had let everyone down. "What I feel is what everybody is feeling," he said. Slapping him would instil fear in the teenager, let him know what the ways of the world are and teach him a lesson, Neo said. He said he knew it was wrong to slap Yee but could not control himself. He could be jailed for up to two years and/or fined up to $5,000. Sixty year old Singaporean aunty slapped by an Indonesian lady on MRT 21 Feb 2012 AsiaOne 60-year-old Singaporean aunty was slapped on her cheek by an Indonesian lady on a MRT train on Mon morning (20 Feb). The incident happened when the aunty boarded the train at Sembawang MRT station at around 11:15am. Upon boarding, she saw a lady believed to be an Indonesian put her bag on the reserved seat for the elderly. The aunty pointed to the Indonesian that the seat was a reserved seat. The foreigner then accused the aunty of being rude and an argument between them broke out. Yesterday around 1645hrs, saw a guy, FT with green work permit pass (with his son, around 4-5yrs) slap a girl (A stranger, around 4yrs old) at United Square at Basement 1. The girl's parents chase after the FT guy from B1 to 1st floor. Should just hamtan him. A commotion arise and 10-15mins later, the police came. The FT wife was seen crying and apologizing to the girl parents

MP-elect for Hougang, Yaw Shin Leong from the Workers' Party, met with a minor car accident in front of Rivervale Plaza in Sengkang on Sunday afternoon. Nobody was hurt in the accident. When contacted, Mr Yaw said he was driving very slowly when he dozed off and bumped into a barricade. The car's bumper was dislodged. Mr Yaw said he has not had enough sleep with the intensive nine-day campaign leading up to Polling Day on Saturday. 'A co-driver is essential, especially when the road gets tougher to navigate. The co-driver is there to slap the driver when he drives off course or when he goes asleep. 'But, of course, if the driver is friendly and drives responsibly, we just keep talking to him to keep him awake.'

Mas Selamat Kastari was captured in Malaysia's southern state of Johor on April 1, more than a year after he escaped from a high-security prison in neighbouring Singapore in February 2008 by wriggling out a bathroom window. Officials were aware that Mas Selamat had fled to Malaysia from 'the moment he came to our country', Malaysian Home Ministry Secretary General Mahmood Adam said in an interview with The Associated Press. - suan WKS ah... 'We have a very good (police intelligence agency) here,' Mr Mahmood said. He did not say when exactly Mas Selamat came to Johor or whether Malaysia told Singapore about his whereabouts. Mas Selamat, the alleged Singapore commander of the Al-Qaeda-linked Jemaah Islamiyah group, evaded a massive manhunt in the city-state and slipped into Malaysia by swimming across a narrow strip of sea that separates the two countries. Police monitored Mas Selamat's movements instead of arresting him immediately because 'the most important (thing) sometimes is not the particular target, the most important (thing) sometimes is the networking', Mr Mahmood said. Mas Selamat alone is not as valuable as who is behind him, Mr Mahmood said. Mas Selamat lived in a Malaysian village of about 100 people, rarely going out or mixing with other residents, before being captured by Malaysian commandos. Mr Mahmood declined to say whether authorities are on the verge of making further arrests, but stressed that Malaysia remained 'very safe and secure'. Malaysia's government last week announced it would hold Mas Selamat for two years under a security law that allows for detention without trial. As I have 3 kids, been hunting for a OPC Van that can ferry all of them in the weekends, been looking for something that I can afford and I can live with. Finally found one, Wuling Journey, sits seven, workmanship like a 1980's to 90's japanese suzuki swift. Can sccept lah, but when I broke the news to my friends and colleagues, for last two weeks, been Slap big time with all the Negative points! I have not recieved any positive pointers as yet. Chinese made are very unreliable, be prepared for breakdowns even it's new. 4. The undercarriage is prone to break. 5. Some cant imagine thay driving one, I think it's a image thing... 6. Poly student gets maximum fine for negligent driving He was also banned from driving for five years for causing passenger's death. By Elena Chong, Court Correspondent A MOTORIST was taking his passengers home late one evening when it skidded, went up a centre road divider and overturned on the opposite side of the road. A rear right passenger died about two months after the June 15, 2006 accident. On Monday, second-year polytechnic student Shawn Goh Jin Fa, 24, was given the maximum fine of $10,000 and banned from driving for five years for causing the death of Mr Taqdir Buang, 23, through his negligence. One of the two other passengers was treated as an outpatient while the other was given two weeks' medical leave. A district court heard that Goh was driving on the extreme right lane of Clementi Road at about 11.30pm when he drove negligently and lost control of the car while overtaking a car from the left side of that car. His car went up the road divider, hit a metal railing and overturned on the centre lane of the three-lane road on the opposite side. Mr Taqdir suffered serious head injuries and died 64 days later in hospital on Aug 18.
