As the group went by a petrol station, they spotted the Toyota Altis turning out. After failing to give way to the cyclists and the cam car, the Altis immediately brakes after it turns out. This scares the cyclists, who swerved to avoid a head-on collision with the thoughtless driver. They could also be heard yelling 'Oi' at the driver in the video, which provoked him even more. Continuing on their route, both cyclists and the cam car sped up and overtook the car. The cyclists then looked back to check on the location of the raging driver as they hurriedly peddled. This upsets the Altis driver, who immediately sped up and recklessly merged into their lane - just to step on his brakes. His pride must have been seriously hurt as the cyclists deftly avoided his attacks, resulting in a second attempt to block them (and almost running one of the cyclists over). The way the driver tries to get the cyclists reminds me of a classic Tom and Jerry scene. The video ends with the Toyota Altis turning left and exiting the road. Netizens' reactions Netizens were divided on placing blame after watching this video. Some condoned the driver's reckless actions while others condoned the way the cyclists were cycling on the road. While watching the video, it is possible that the cyclists provoked the driver by shouting at him for not giving way to them. Yep, I think the blame is 50/50. While the cyclists were quite rude (and took up the entire lane after overtaking), the driver endangered the lives of everybody when he played his petty games. An unamused driver catches a large school of over 50 cyclists hogging the roads during the early morning hours. The video starts with footage of the cam car driving alongside the large group on Clementi Road, accompanied by funky TikTok music. While most of the cyclists kept to the left lane, there were a few outliers on the main road. Frustrated, the driver repeatedly honks at the outlying cyclists as he overtakes the group and switches into the left lane. The rest of the video shows the driver tagging behind two cyclists at the very front of the group. What are the current COVID-19 regulations for cyclists? The video featured a screenshot of the current regulations from the Singapore Cycling Foundation (SCF). According to the SCF, cyclists are allowed to travel in groups of 5 from November 22. If there are more than 5 cyclists, they should keep a distance of 3 meters between groups at all times. Intermingling between groups before, during or after the activity is not allowed as well. While the SCF allows for mass cycling events to occur during this period, it will require an endorsement by Sport Singapore before being conducted. Organisers have to apply at least 14 days before the event for approval and modifications, if necessary. LTA's 2022 cycling regulations According to Channel News Asia, those cycling on the roads from Jan 1, 2022, will have to keep to groups no greater than five bicycles in length, roughly the length of a bus. The new rule means cycling groups on roads will be capped at five riders in single file, or 10 if cycling two abreast. This new regulation is put in place due to the space constraints on Singapore's urban road network. I say, take the day off and let them sleep! As the end of the week creeps around the corner, most of us might lack the motivation to wake up early in the morning and report to work. However, one Foodpanda rider receives a sweet surprise as he gets ready for another day of deliveries. As the rider approaches his motorcycle, he finds two sleepy stray cats using the vehicle as their beds. Unfazed by the scene, he wakes them up as he tries to turn on the motorcycle. Judging from his actions, it seems that this might be a common occurrence and that these cats are no stranger to the rider. With one cat comfortably splayed out on top of his Foodpanda bag and the other cosied up in a basket, they attempt to return to their beauty sleep. I guess the authorities aren't a huge fan of this tradition! In the first few seconds, large crowds have gathered on both sides of the road as a mass of motorcyclists roar through the street. Another video showing a different perspective of this gathering captures the magical moment when the large party passes through the crowd. Riding through the roads, a cambike manages to get a glimpse of all the bikers waiting patiently at a traffic junction just before the 'parade' starts. However, it appears that a few of these motorcyclists might have attracted some unwanted attention from the Traffic Police (TP). Several officers issued fines to these cyclists as they stood around in a large grass patch. Some of these motorcyclists could be seen not wearing masks while they're waiting. Gathering during COVID-19 While it is unclear as to why these motorcyclists are getting stopped and fined, one possible explanation could be due to the fact that this event resulted in a major gathering in public. According to the latest COVID-19 rules in Singapore, individuals are required to wear a mask and stay at least 1 meter away from one another while in public. Additionally, the TP has stopped motorcyclists during a similar event last year over the Hari Raya weekend. Netizens' reactions Upon hearing of this incident, netizens were quick to point out the difference in standards between the treatment of motorcyclists and cyclists by the authorities. Most of them did not see a problem with the event, since it was intended to spread some joy during the festive season. With a torrential rainstorm hitting Singapore yesterday, drivers experienced high tensions as they braved the rain during the morning peak hours. One driver, however, was not so lucky and did not escape the wrath of a motorcyclist. As the first few seconds of this video rolled by, I was already irritated by the sight of the slow-moving vehicles crawling their way through the underpass along Farrer Road. However, when the motorcyclist lined himself beside the Mazda just before entering the underpass, I knew something interesting was going to happen. As the motorcyclist unsuccessfully attempted to lane-split, he found himself stuck behind the black Mazda 6 throughout the entire underpass. Presumably annoyed that the congested roads did not open for him, the motorcyclist crept close to the Mazda to squeeze through the tiny gaps in between the lanes. Unable to get his way, the angry biker zoomed past the car once the roads were clearing up and expressed his emotions with an angry whack to the Mazda 6's side mirror. Very much like this angry cat here. What is lane-splitting? Just in case you were lost earlier when I mentioned it. Defined as 'riding a bicycle or motorcycle between roadway lanes of vehicles driving in the same direction', it is common for motorcyclists to perform lane splitting in slow-moving traffic. The main argument for this act is because lane-splitting prevents motorcycles from overheating. When a running motorcycle is at a standstill or edging forward for an extended period, the vehicle heats up quickly. Hence, riders must keep moving, even in congested traffic. However, lane-splitting is incredibly inconsiderate to other road users. Although it is tolerated by traffic laws when done safely, it puts the motorcyclist at a higher risk of getting crushed by a larger vehicle. Unless there is adequate space in between lanes, riders should avoid lane-splitting at all costs. Instead, the best way to manoeuvre through congested roads would be to practice care and anticipation. Better to stay safe than sorry! Here's footage of a camcar unleashing his fury onto a probationary BMW driver after he was recklessly cut off while making a left turn. According to the video, the incident occurred on Saturday night (July 10) at Bugis (Middle Road) in the wee hours of the morning. The video starts with both vehicles turning left, with the camcar being in the middle lane and the BMW being on the extreme left road. As the camcar turned, I noticed that his vehicle had eaten into the left lane, which elicited a honk from the BMW driver. After the camcar had adjusted back to his lane, the BMW suddenly switched into the middle lane recklessly, which angered the driver and led him to hit the horn. The bulk of the video comprised the haughty exchange between both drivers. The camcar driver was verbally bashing the BMW driver for his turning technique, and the BMW driver defending his actions. Even though it was wrong for the BMW driver to perform that reckless lane change in a fit of rage, the camcar driver was not entirely in the clear as he did not correctly turn into his lane at the start. Netizens’ reactions The internet was divided on this issue, with a majority asking for the camcar driver to share more footage from the incident. A few bashed the BMW driver for his recklessness. . . while a small minority focused on the cyclist on the right, who appeared not to be wearing a helmet and was on the wrong side of the road. TBH, all of this could have been avoided if both drivers would chill and talk things through properly. A Toyota Prius was seen parked in an open-air carpark with a bamboo pole sticking out of its windshield. It looks like the bamboo pole, used for hanging wet laundry, fell from an apartment located in the block behind the parked vehicle. This led to the pole 'impaling' the car's windshield, resulting in a rather large (and heartbreaking) crack. While the identity of the pole's owner is still unknown, many have speculated that it must have fallen from a unit located on a high level.
