  1. https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/se-asia/robbers-blow-up-atm-flee-with-more-than-100000-in-malaysia SHAH ALAM – Three masked robbers took just five minutes to blow open an automated teller machine (ATM) at an Ambank branch in Setia Alam, Selangor. They escaped with RM349,000 (S$106,000) in cash. Shah Alam police officer Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said he was alerted to the incident at 6.48am on Thursday, reported New Straits Times. “Our probe identified three suspects who were seen entering the premises. They arrived in a white car suspected to be a Mitsubishi ASX,” he said. “The surveillance recordings were blurry and unclear, as it had been sprayed with black paint. “We are on the hunt for the suspects,” he was quoted as saying in New Straits Times. He added that two ATMs, valued at around RM60,000, were damaged but only one was blasted open and broken into. They were likely blown up using gas pressure, according to preliminary investigations. In February 2022, two robbers made off with RM260,000 in cash after blowing up an ATM at a convenience store in Meru, Selangor. Police said the robbers blew open the machine using a type of gas via a pipe from their car, which was parked outside the store, reported The Star. In August 2019, another similar theft was reported in Tanjong Malim, Perak. Robbers blew up an ATM machine using explosive substances and fled with RM300,000, according to the Malay Mail.
  2. It's about that time of the year again. The end of the year where it just seems natural for most of us to take a break from the normal routine, finish off one's annual leave and go on a holiday. Since this is a motoring blog, a drive to holiday destination is what I will be featuring (as usual and as always). Those that have been following MyAutoBlog would notice that I have been writing about road trips in and around Peninsular Malaysia and what you can do when you get to that Malaysian destination. This latest 'drive-to destination' takes us to Kuala Selangor, Malaysia. Kuala Selangor is a quaint old town situated on the West Coast of Malaysia in the state of Selangor. This sleepy hollow is basically an hour's drive from Kuala Lumpur or a good five hours or so from the Causeway(s). You could use the ELITE (Nilai-KLIA-Shah Alam) Highway and head towards Klang before heading north towards Kuala Selangor but I would suggest getting to Kuala Selangor using the Guthrie highway, which you can basically reach from the Federal Highway's first exit after the Federal Highway's Shah Alam toll booth. Upon entering the Guthrie Highway head towards Ijok. At the Ijok interchange/exit, head on towards Ijok and onwards to Kuala Selangor. The reason for this not so straight forward route is that the scenery is much better instead of passing lots of workshops, factory lots and used car lots along Kapar/Meru Road. Furthermore, the road is slightly more challenging instead of just a straight line. Once you reach Kuala Selangor you'll note that this little town is indeed a sleepy hollow. Kuala Selangor was once the capital of the State of Selangor and it is fillied with history. I have to say that it is one of the better preserved historical spots in Peninsular Malaysia, up there with Malacca and even Penang. Bukit Melawati, or Melawati Hill holds a heck of a lot of history and a fabulous view to boot. This I believe is a very good reason to spend a couple of days at this sleepy little hamlet. Private cars aren't allowed up the hill. You can either walk up (which won't kill you as it is only a few hundred meters up via a tarred road) or take the passenger tram (which is actually a tractor badly disguised as a train) for a small fee. At the peak, there is a lighthouse, remnants of a fort with the actual cannons, a royal mausoleum (where a supposedly sacred and mystical cannon covered in yellow cloth stands guard), a chopping block which was actually used to chop people's heads off and a museum covering the history of Kuala Selangor. You could actually spend a whole day exploring the hill if you took your time. Now the town itself is pretty cool too. There are pre-war buildings that would capture your sight, a clock tower commemorating Malaysia's independence and other odd bits here and there
  3. Tuesday May 27, 2008 Consultant told to scrap frills in royal garden project Story and photos by EDWARD RAJENDRA SELANGOR Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has ordered the Klang Royal Garden landscape consultant Tajul Landart to scrap two arches, a minaret, watch tower, souvenir kiosk and decorative lightings costing RM7.5mil, saying it was a waste of public funds. Sultan Sharafuddin who is known for his no-nonsense attitude, ticked off the consultant for proposing the lavish frills that pushed the 6.3ha public garden project to an exorbitant RM11mil. Now it cost just RM3.5 mill after the unnecessary frills were erased from the plan. The Sultan had advised the consultants, National Landscape Department and Klang Municipal Council's Garden and Recreation Department director Muhammad Hijaz Sanusi to create a garden with a soul. Hijaz said the Sultan devotes his time to givevaluable inputs so that the people can enjoy an urban oasis within the hustle and bustle of the township. The Klang Royal Garden, scheduled to be open to the public in October this year, is sandwiched between Jalan Tengku Kelana, Jalan Istana Baru and Jalan Istana. Part of it can be seen opposite the Our Lady of Lourdes Church where a fountain built a few years ago would be retained as part of the landscape together with the 80-year-old rainforest trees. 4. Will be going up on the ND long weekend to Petaling Jaya AKA PJ. Will be staying again at the Saujana. Promotional rates from AWD. MYR437 for 2 nights with complimentary bed for the young ones. Very good for a 5* hotel. Was thinking of the Holiday Genmarie for a change but many Malaysians reviewed it as not worth having it's rating. Anyway, will be going to Kuala Selangor. Will be on the fireflies tour. The entry rates are good. MYR10 for adults, MYR6 for kids. Better than Desaru. Might try the seafood there too. Dunno if I got enough time for KL. Kuala Selangor itself has a lot of "missed" attractions. Fort Altingsburg, the wetlands and other historic sites. Stay tuned for pics and reports as usual. I doubt I can post firefly pics. Very few cameras can take pictures in near darkness.
