  1. AFP Somali pirates have seized a Singapore-flagged container ship in the Indian Ocean near the Seychelles, maritime sources told AFP. "The Singapore flagged and owned boxship Kota Wajar was seized around 550km north the Seychelles," said Andrew Mwangura, who heads the Kenyan chapter of East African Seafarers Assistance Program. Other maritime sources in the region confirmed the information. A maritime source in the area, who did not wish to be identified, said that the attack took place early on Thursday, 44km from the site of recent attacks on French tuna-fishing boats. He also said that the attack was only 330km from the Seychelles, inside the archipelago's exclusive economic zone. The maritime security centre of the European Union, which has an anti-piracy naval force patrolling waters affected by Somali piracy, also confirmed the hijacking. "During the early morning of October 15, 2009, a Singapore-flagged container ship KOTA WAJAR was hijacked in the Indian Ocean by pirates some 300 nautical miles (550km) north of the Seychelles," a statement said. "An EU NAVFOR maritime patrol aircraft was tasked to investigate the situation," it said, without providing further details. The latest hijacking brings to at least six the number of vessels in the hands of Somali pirates. The others include a Spanish trawler, a Taiwanese fishing vessel and Ukrainian, German and Turkish freighters. According to non-governmental observers Ecoterra International, at least 163 attacks have been carried out by Somali pirates since the start of 2009 alone, 47 of them successful hijackings. A flotilla of foreign warships has since last year been patrolling the Gulf of Aden, one of the busiest maritime trade routes on the globe, prompting pirates to hunt down their prey far out in the Indian Ocean. Experts had warned in recent days that dropping winds near the Seychelles had attracted pirates, who generally launch attacks from so-called "mother ships" with tiny skiffs.
  2. SINGAPORE: Police have seized firearms from the Singapore Gun Club and the Singapore Rifle Association due to "serious licensing irregularities," the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said in a statement on Saturday (Feb 6). SPF said its Police Licensing and Regulatory Department had found these irregularities while conducting an audit at the armouries of the two clubs on Tuesday. Police investigations are ongoing, it added. Channel NewsAsia understands that more than 70 guns were unaccounted for. These guns belonged to members who have died, quit the clubs or left Singapore, and no proper records were kept. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/police-seize-arms-from/2494178.html
  3. Malaysia boleh ............ My friend had ever warned me with regards to buying houses in MY, they could seize back anytime.... Yahoo news: Johor to seize Malay land from non-Malays NUSAJAYA: The Johor government will seize Malay reserve land which had fallen into the hands of non-Malays. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin said several action plans would be enforced to seize land which rightfully belonged to Malays. “This shows that we did not neglect our responsibility in defending or increasing the size of Malay reserve land,” he said to questions from Datuk Maulizan Bujang (BN-Tiram), Ayub Jamil (BN-Rengit) and A. Aziz Ismail (BN-Senggarang) at the Johor state assembly sitting here yesterday. However, he did not elaborate on what the action plans were nor the size of Malay reserve land which had changed hands. Khaled said Johor had 432,157ha of Malay reserve land as of last September, compared with 87,536ha in 1957. “In the Iskandar Malaysia economic region, the size of Malay reserve land is 23,517ha, compared to 1,921ha in 1957. “These include land in Johor Baru and in Kulaijaya. “This clearly shows that the acreage of Malay reserve land in the economic region has grown in size, and not the other way round. “In fact, the size of Malay reserve land has grown by 12 times as compared to 1957,” he said. 4. Back in September last year, there was a news report about thirteen supercars impounded in British Columbia, Canada for their involvement in street racing. The drivers of these cars have to pay a $196 fine plus an impound fee. On top of that, they might get their driving license suspended. Apparently, an eye witness informed the local police about these drivers late night activities. Two of the cars would block off a stretch of a road and the rest would do the racing. Some of the drivers involved were students from an exclusive boarding school and some did not even have driving licenses. In Canada, there are strict laws regarding street racing and dangerous driving and if found guilty of these charges, the authorities have the right to confiscate the cars and sell them off. Before I continue, here is the list of supercars that were impounded. 3 Lamborghini Gallardo 2 Nissan GTR 2 Maserati GranTurismo 1 Audi R8 1 Aston Martin DB9 1 Ferrari 599 1 Mercedes Benz SL63 AMG 1 Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Just after the impoundment was made, the local police have slapped them with only traffic charges (fines and a temporary seizure) as there was little evidence. But five of the car owners have been indicted due to evidence from an eye witness. The British Columbia Civil Forfeiture Office have decided to take further action by commencing in a civil action to confiscate the cars under Canada
  5. Italian police have seized Flavio Briatore's yacht. A week after the banned former Renault boss hosted Bernie Ecclestone on the 60-metre Force Blue on the Monaco harbour, police boarded it on Thursday. They had followed the yacht with high speed boats to the port of La Spezia, near the northern city of Genoa, with the 60-year-old Italian, his wife Elisabetta and new son Falco all on board. Local prosecutor Walter Cotugno ordered the boat be impounded on the suspicion it is improperly registered as a charter. Investigators suspect Briatore has registered it in the Cayman Islands, with a hire price of 275,000 euros a week, in order to obtain a tax break and to avoid paying sales tax when anchoring in European harbours. They suspect the yacht is not chartered at all and in fact is used only by Briatore's family. Source: GMM
