I just sent my car for it's 10K servicing a few days ago. Today I just notice that when ever I applied my brakes, there's a very high pitched screeching sound that seem to come from my rear right brakes. This happens when I'm only gently applying the brakes. Is this goning to be a costly problem? I'm thinking maybe my brake pads are worned down (how come so fast? It's still a relatively new car How much might it cost to replace the brake pads if they are worn down?

guys recently hear this screeching sound whenever I fully turn my steering left or right..its pretty consistent..only happens when i fully turn during parking. can any bros advice what could have been the cause? Power steering fluid? Steering pump? Appreciate if can advice cost as well. Thanks!

I can hear a high pitch screeching sound when i start the engine sometime. once the engine start, the sound will disappear. It start several months back but it is comes every now and then. Anyone can advice what might be wrong? Am driving a 7.5yo Toyota Wish.- 11 replies

Hi bros, anyone had encounter this problem? When I started my engine, there was this screeching sound appear. Think is the alternator belt causing the sound. Anyone had tried using WD 40 to smooth it? Or roughly how much it will cost to change the belt? Thanks in advice.

Hi guys, Am driving a 2008 Wish NFL. It's a second hand. 5 years old this year. Mileage abt 90,000K if it has not been tampered before (haha.. we all know abt dealers lowering the numbers.. anyway...). Since I got the car 2 years back, havent change anything on the brakes till now. The car is stock stock condition. Here's my problem : - Screeching sounds coming from rear of vehicle whenever i tap the brakes. (definitely not the front brakes cos I poke my head out of the car to listen when driving. Slow speed though) - Applying light brake.... screeching comes on continuously. - Applying harder brakes.....beginning there's a slight screech, then it's gone till the car comes to a complete stop. - Applying brake when reversing... no sound (probably because it's too slow to create any noise) Anyone driving same ride and encounter this problem before? What needs to be change, the damage, any workshop to recommend, contacts? SG or JB workshop also can so long as it's economical and trust worthy. If not convenient to post here, can PM me. Any recommendations welcome! Along the way, also though of doing a general servicing plus checking of aircon... not sure it's the weather or car, it just feels not as cold when you need it. Haha.. Encountering a screeching sound everytime I downshift to gear 3 at speeds above 50km/h. However, at speeds under 50km/h, when upshifting to accelerate, no sound. Sound only comes when changing gear at 50km/h or higher. Same sound as when didn't engage gear properly but release clutch. Gear can be engaged. Just got screeching sound thats all. Only gear 3, no other gears got this problem. Does this usually become a big problem quickly? Or do I have some time before the car becomes totally not safe to drive. Gonna get to WS asap if its urgent but will wait 2-4 weeks for parts from stockist if this problem can wait. Honestly I not too sure whether get from stockist and bring to WS will save money at all man... Ran a search on gearbox and no one seem to have open thread about similar symtoms before...

Has anyone ever encountered screeching/squealing noise when going forward or reverse during parking? No brakes were been applied. If so, what is the cause of it? Thanks!

After serving my car yesterday and when I started it early this morning, can hear the screeching sound of the belt. Open up the bonnet to check but do not know which one is screaming. And when I drive on.. the sound disappeared. It happen again if I rest the car for few hrs and start again. In this case what will you do ? Any advise will be appreciated................

i am driving a 08 Edix 2l. I have rear disc, and sound coming from it when i brake....intermittently. have changed rotor, brake pads..clean the brakes...all parts original. anyone knows of similar experience, and you can help me solve it... thanks

Hi All, Found dat my brakes makes screeching sound as and when i stepped on my brakes. It does not happen everything but only now n then. Do u guys think it is the brake problems or is this normal? Are the brakes covered under warranty? I m due for my 15K servicing soon. Thanks in advance.

Hi all, I got this metal screeching sound on my 8000km old Sunny whenever I tap my brakes. Is it brake pad running out or just some particles stuck in between the pad and the disc? Thanks in advance!

hullo all, I'm driving a Getz 1.6M. I'm getting a very high pitch screeching sound coming from the engine block. Can be heard very clearly with windows wound down and when passing another vehicle or a wall, the sound just rebounce back to the cabin. When accelerating or or engine braking, the sound will come on. Just now went to open the bonnet and push the throttle cable...can hear the screeching sound very clearly. When on a standstill at idle is fine, free gear rolling with brakes on also no sound - cannot be brake pads worn right? only 10k on the odo. Any idea what cud this be due to? Did servicing with new ngk copper plugs, Schaeffer 5W30 at 9800km now 10300km...

Changed my brake pads (front) last week. Still can hear screeching sound when starting to brake. My mechanic said it is normal. But its been almost a week now. Is this really normal? I visually inspected my brake discs, no "damage" leh.

Noticed that some cars seem to have some screeching sound (sharp noise) when started up. The sound will gradually go away. What is the cause of this screeching?

Hi guys my new Lancer is barely 3 months old, and I am already getting screeching from the brakes everytime after I start the car. Initially I thought it was a minor problem, so the first time it happened, I sent the Lancer to C&C Ubi, and they serviced the brakes. After servicing, the brakes were quiet, but lately the sound is getting louder and louder again. It seems like servicing the brakes is not a long term solution. Does any one have experience with this problem? I heard if u install a "shim" on the brakes, that will solve the screeching sound? Its irritating and I want to get rid of it permanently...any ideas? Many thanks for ur advice.

hi all, after skimming my brake discs to get rid of the screeching sound ('eeeeeeee'), the sound comes back after a few days, although it is not so audible n obvious as before skimming. what could be the problem here? pls advice. thanks.

Sometimes when I brake while reversing, I hear a horrible screeching sound. Something is definately scratching something else. The funny thing is that I cannot replicate this problem when I am at BM. The last time, they cleaned the discs but I am sure that this problem has something to do with the fact that the car is parked with the back wheels higher than the front wheels. Call me crazy but BM has no idea. Anyone with a similar experience or any advice ? I am driving a Toyota Vios 1.5S which I took in March this year.
