  1. Have you ever found yourself obsessing over a fad or an object that you grow tired of after a few months, or even just after a few weeks? You feel as if you're entering one passing phase after another. When one ends, you feel tired and empty at the same time, yet you can't help but seek the next thing to occupy your mind. Is this a product of our connection/addiction to social media, in our endless bid to find the next entertaining or educational reel? Is it all just an attempt to find the next dopamine hit we constantly crave? (Disclaimer: I am not a psychiatrist.) About three years ago, a colleague of mine told me about how he, along with a few other guys in the office, went through this phase where they all got into the same hobbies at the same time. One such hobby was folding bicycles. Once one of them tried it, the rest of the group decided they should also buy foldies, so they could go on group rides after work. It's all about team bonding, after all. Photo: Dimon Blr, Unsplash However, if you don't make this part of your lifestyle, the novelty soon wears off. By this point, one of them had purchased more than two foldies, which are currently residing in his bomb shelter. Dissatisfied with the weight and performance of the folding bikes, my colleagues then acquired road bikes so they could clock faster average speeds. Cycling, however, takes up time. Time to gear up, time to ride, and time to put the bicycles on racks so you can ride in new places. So, another hobby was needed. Enter in-line skating. Why bother transporting bicycles when you can literally strap wheels onto your feet? Easier, right? Right. Photo: Naomi Tamar, Unsplash Next, someone suggested that apart from outdoor activities, they should also have a relaxing activity they can do at home. Hence, the obsession with aquariums. Water, filters, PH testing, air pumps, tank decorations, fish and fish food... they got into it all. Maintaining an aquarium is complicated (duh) and unless you learn how to maintain this ecosystem, the inevitable will happen. The poor fish slowly died out as the passion for the hobby fizzled. Mea culpa I'm just as guilty of getting into things and tiring of them quickly. When I bought my first full-frame DSLR, I was obsessed with a 50mm f1.4 lens, thinking it was all the kit I needed. It was – for a while. But I have my limitations, and soon found myself wanting a longer focal length for better 'compression'. Also, it's not always possible to get close to a speaker at an event. Or so I told myself. The 50mm lens fell out of favour once my 24-70mm lens arrived. Sure, call me lazy for preferring the 'softer' zoom in place of a 'crisper' prime. My 50mm entered a state of semi-retirement. The writer's passion for photography still continues to this day. Photo: Chuttersnap, Unsplash Next, I became obsessed with Nikon's 135mm f2.0. Purpose-built for portraits, creamy bokeh is its calling card. I had to have one. After fawning over it (while saving the moolah needed), I took the plunge. To justify its cost, I also used it to shoot cars. It didn't matter if my teammates said it was inconvenient because of how far away I'd have to walk to get a car in frame. I loved using this solidly built lens and its metal body. But reality hit home. It was not very practical unless I'm shooting portraits, which is... once in a blue moon. The 24-70mm lens was still the most used because of its convenience, so like the 50mm, my dream 135mm lens sits idly at home. Since then, I have learnt to obsess 'sensibly', which means looking intently, but not buying. This saves money, but not necessarily time. For instance, I was once obsessed with acquiring a scooter, for no other reason except I hadn't really tried one. "Bro you should get one! Just twist and go, it's super-easy to ride in traffic! You won't regret it!" "Buy, buy, buy!" Hearing stuff like this made me want one even more. So, to the irritation of my better half, I spent weeks trawling online ads, often even while she was trying to tell me something important. I considered everything from a Honda PCX150 to a Suzuki Burgman to a Sym GTS. My scooter phase ended when the missus told me that my scooter would only sit in the carpark gathering dust. Since I only get to ride my bike twice a week, getting second two-wheeler would have been foolhardy indeed. The writer is unlikely to own a scooter, as he still enjoys the engagement a motorcycle requires. Photo: Pedro Pereira, Unsplash Another thing I stopped myself from buying is a gaming laptop. My last one is over 10 years old and no longer works. With a library of games on Steam and my work laptop not having the hardware to run them, a $4,000 gaming machine must be the solution. Fortunately, I had the sense to pause before spending so much money. After spending the entire day at work (in front of a computer), I realised the last thing I wanted to do on weeknights was sit in front of another computer. That means I'd only use a gaming laptop on weekends, presuming there were no plans to meet with friends. It also dawned on me that a gaming laptop would contribute to a sedentary lifestyle. So, I should be spending money on a gym membership instead. And a nicer bicycle that could lead to improved fitness. Right? Right? Oh crap, it's happening again. – Jeremy

(Photo by Shizuka Tanabe) SHIZUKA TANABE, Nikkei staff writerJune 13, 2022 21:23 JST TOKYO -- Honda Motor subsidiary Striemo announced on Monday its entry into the electric three-wheel scooter market. A startup in Honda's business creation program, Striemo unveiled its eponymous new electric scooter at a press conference. The company has begun taking preorders online from individuals for a limited 300 units at 260,000 yen ($1,900). The Striemo weighs 20 kilograms and can travel 30 kilometers on a charge. The driver operates the accelerator and brake manually, and can make the vehicle turn by shifting his or her weight as if skiing. The three-wheelers are due to go on sale in Japan before the end of this year, and in Europe in 2023. Under the Japanese law, riders are required to have a Class 1 motorized bicycle license and wear a helmet when riding such machines on public roads. For corporate customers, Striemo will offer by the end of 2022 a subscription system to use the electric scooter off public roads in places like factories and universities. In April this year, the law was revised and this will allow the electric scooters access to public roads without a driver's license within two years. At a press conference, Striemo Chief Executive Yotaro Mori anticipated market expansion. "The legal revision will further increase demand," he said. In order to comply with the revised law, the company intends to develop new models equipped with mirrors, turn signals and indicators that display speeds to pedestrians. The electric scooter market is dominated by startup companies at the moment, but major car manufacturers are looking to compete by applying safety technologies evolved from motorcycle and car manufacture.
  3. Yesterday when I was driving out of the carpark, there is this young punk who is riding a PMD at a very fast speed which was turning out also. So can you guys imagine he is turning out at the same time as me and he is at my passenger side blind spot? He didn't slow down at all when turning out and in fact, he was trying to overtake me. If I wasn't aware of him, when I complete my turn and wanna keep back to the lane, I might have banged on him. I think the LTA must set a list of penalty like a motorist. And I can foresee in the future; there might be surveillance camera to catch PMD if all these incidents escalate. Do anyone of you encounter such incident with the PMD as me? Drive safe guys.

  7. Saw this shocking footage on ROADS.sg Facebook page, the first thought that came across my mind was, woah, the rider was literally centimetres away from death! Really, the spot his helmet contacted the ground was in the direct path of the Honda Vezel's front left tyre! Unsurprisingly the comment section was filled with praises for the driver of the Honda Vezel. Indeed, it was the driver's attentive driving and lightning-quick reflexes that saved the rider's life. In fact, it looks like he had damaged his car in the process of dodging the fallen biker - a truly selfless move! As for what caused the rider to fell over, there were some speculations: Seems like it could've been due to exhaustion or issues with the bike. At the end of the day, we need to remember that, as drivers, we should always be attentive, and aware of the surroundings - put down that phone! Be it a driver or a biker, we should always aim to get on the road only after getting sufficient rest, and also to keep our vehicles in tip-top condition. That way, we can all stay safe on the roads. You can watch the full video on ROADS.sg's Facebook page
  8. Ever since the Circuit Breaker measures have kicked in, more people have started working out in the parks as that is one of the few things left that you can do that is not indoors. Naturally, jogging and cycling in parks is one of the more popular outdoor activities but while we are engaged in such activities, it is best to keep a lookout for your family members. As seen on Singapore Roads safety/Roads safety.SG facebook page, the camera car was traveling along Yishun Ave 8 on 15th of May 2020 when the driver saw a child straying onto the road with his kick scooter. According to the Facebook post, the child's parents were not idenitified in the video(might have been the man on the right with a white top). Thankfully for the boy, a passing cyclist managed to the pull the child to safety. Meanwhile the camera car driver claimed to have swerved into the middle lane while a fast-moving lorry was coming up from behind. Viewers can spot the lorry zooming past the cyclist and the kid in the video. Naturally, netizens were fast to flame the parents for not caring for the kid. The lorry that zoomed past did not escape the flames too.
  9. As the demand for food deliveries increase due to our current circuit breaker situation, it is only natural to see an increase in the amount of bikes fulfilling the food delivery demand. Check out how this motorcyclist takes in a hard day's of work by riding in a relaxed manner on the road. Spotted by someone on the SLE on the 4th of May, this grabfood rider can be seen in the video with his legs crossed while using his mobile phone simultaneously. This is definitely not the safest way to ride but we doubt he is breaking any laws from doing so. That said, some of the comments by neitzens on SG Road Vigilante's page didn't agree and weren't so kind... What do you guys think? Let us know in the comment box below! 95500445_2129716763840421_303453959922408449_n.mp4
  10. This PMD rider makes a woman scream her lungs out. Have you ever made a woman scream with at the top of her lungs? Well, I think we have a clear winner here. First posted on Stomp, this masked PMD rider nearly got hit by a car after beating a red light at Bedok North Road. A video was posted at SG Road Vigilante of the incident that occurred on Sunday (12th Apr), at around 5.27pm, according to the time-stamp. The woman in the car can be heard screaming as she barely manages to stop on time, narrowly avoiding the PMD rider. For those who do not know how a woman screams, please watch this. Thank goodness that there are no injuries between the driver and PMD riders, for neither the car workshops nor the hospitals are keen to take up more jobs at this moment. Remember to always keep a safe distance, both when heading out and when you're on the road. We should be staying at home at this period of time, so let's do our part and keep Singapore safe. #SGunited #stayhomestaysafe #dontgoout
  11. So since this topic is here to stay, I think instead of debating who is right and wrong, I think we should be prepared if there is something bad happening around us. I used to be from the Navy so I have learned some basic fire-fighting knowledge. I never fight a real fire before, luckily. So all the stuff I mention is from my understanding and with the help from google. At least 34 cases of PMD-related fires this year. There have been at least 34 cases of fires involving personal mobility devices (PMDs) so far this year, with two incidents over the last two days. Read more at https://www.todayonline.com/singapore/least-34-cases-fire-involving-pmds-year It is believed that lithium-ion battery fires are some of the most difficult fires to suppress. You can see the video here. and for a small lithium-ion battery, it can already cause such big damage, imagine you have like 10kg worth of lithium-ion battery. How to extinguish a lithium-ion battery? To prevent me from "oversteer", let's dive straight to the topic. Despite their name, lithium-ion batteries used in consumer products do not contain any actual lithium metal. For lithium fires, only a CLASS D COPPER POWDER EXTINGUISHER is recommended. The minimum equipment required includes eye-protection, respirator, rubber gloves, etc. If other combustibles nearby catch fire as well as a result of the lithium fire, then we need to use appropriate extinguishing agents to douse the secondary fires. Needless to mention, it is important to address each type of fire with the appropriate extinguishing. So as you can see from the chart, Class D fire is to tackle combustible metal. It is very expensive to actually keep a class D fire extinguishers at home compared to the dry powder extinguishers. So is there any other way to put out class D fire? since Li-ion contains very little lithium metal that reacts with water. Water also cools the adjacent area and prevents the fire from spreading. Research laboratories and factories also use water to extinguish Li-ion battery fires. But I think this part is subjective. If there is smoke from the lithium-ion battery or there is an initial flame, I think water will be useful if it has already ignited, I don't think it will help. @carbon82 can help me with this. haha. Should I get one Class D fire extinguishers? Some of you might not have bought a fire extinguisher before. A normal dry powder ABC extinguisher is about $25 at lazada. So who will want to buy $620 dollar of extinguisher and stand by? If our government can invest 7 million on the return scheme of PMD, I think they should consider having extinguisher mounted at all HDB staircase or something. And I think it is good that maybe whoever is buying and registering a PMD, they need to go through a 1-hour fire fighting session or something. If they carry the risk, they must minimize the risk too. make the buying process a bit more troublesome, so those young punk will find it a hassle to own one. That's my thoughts. I never win TOTM before thou. 🤣🤣🤣
  12. Good news or bad news? Your views? Cyclists and users of personal mobility devices (PMDs) such as e-scooters will soon have to adhere to a lower speed limit when travelling on footpaths, after the Government accepted an advisory panel’s recommendations. Starting early 2019, the current 15kmh speed limit on footpaths for PMDs and bicycles will be brought down to 10kmh. The lower speed will give PMD users, cyclists and pedestrians enough time to react to each other in unforeseen circumstances, the Ministry of Transport (MOT) said on Tuesday (Sep 4). “All riders must continue to give way to pedestrians and slow down when approaching crowded areas or blind spots. Riders should also exercise caution when overtaking other path users,” the ministry said in a press release. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/e-scooters-bicycles-speed-limit-footpaths-cut-to-10kmh-pmds-10682204
  13. There's already a thread on fire but just want to highlight this particular one. Courageous neighbours helps to put out fire in hdb flat b4 scdf arrives. Salute these men for going out of the way to help a neighbour. defo can sleep well at night if i know i have such helpful guys living nearby. https://stomp.straitstimes.com/singapore-seen/heroic-residents-suffer-scratches-after-saving-cats-from-yishun-hdb-unit-on-fire?fbclid=IwAR0TE6r2u76uIy4CECtqn5CzuRcDcSjopwhM4M1atl73iPG_tWYq4ZRAdz8 Watch the video on Stomp. and lastly five cats in hdb. as we all know cats are nt allowed in hdb flats but the unspoken rule is tat if nobody complain then you can keep ur cats. for such a case highlighted in public, wat will happen to the cats? will hdb do anything? Two brave men stepped forward to save five cats after a fire broke out in a unit at Block 257 Yishun Ring Road on Sunday morning (July 14). Stomper Francis, Kohji and Wati alerted Stomp to the incident and shared photos and videos taken at the scene. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told Stomp that they responded to the fire at about 10.10am. The fire involved the contents of a bedroom in a unit on the third floor and was extinguished by the SCDF using two compressed-air foam (CAF) backpacks. Two people were taken to hospital due to suspected smoke inhalation, a spokesman said. Preliminary investigations indicate a personal mobility device (PMD) was being charged when the fire occurred. "Two selfless heroes managed to rescue the cats before the SCDF arrived, getting injured in the process," said Francis, who lives a few blocks away from the affected block. "Five cats were rescued and one of them was, unfortunately, slightly burnt." His photos showed long scratches on one of the men's arms. He also shared a video of the men who were joined by other Yishun residents as they tried to put out the fire with water-filled buckets and a hose.

  16. Scooting around the world on a Vespa http://www.todayonline.com/lifestyle/travel/scooting-around-world-vespa Juvena Huang is much like your regular Singapore girl the colleague you go to yoga lessons with, or your best friends earnest kid sister with a love for bikes. But unlike most, the 27-year-old is also embarking on a trip around the world today. On her Vespa scooter. Alone. This journey started because a good friend passed away in 2009, revealed Huang. He was a motorbike rider who was always taking long distance rides to countries around the region and spoke of riding around the world. Nothing happened to him until the rare occasion he decided to drive. He ended up in a car accident which took his life. The uncertainty and brevity of life struck me hard. I wanted to do something crazy for once. Visit her blog or Facebook for updates: http://thewanderingwasp.blogspot.sg https://www.facebook.com/thewanderingwasp Hats off to this lady!
  17. How do u feel when u come across above in a mall regardless of the human traffic? Do u think it is ok to allow ur kids to do it? If u allow, did u consider the hazard ur kid pose to others?? Lastly, wld u broach this to the parent who allow if u encounter it?
  18. You know, paying careful attention for oncoming vehicles while crossing the street is actually a pretty obvious thing to do. However, it seems that there will always be some people who are just ignorant enough that they tend to jaywalk. The woman in the accompanying video is a good yet unfortunate example. You see, when you jaywalk, not only are you putting your life in danger but also that of other people's. If a vehicle happens to be approaching while you are jaywalking, the driver of the vehicle will be forced to slam the brakes all of a sudden. As a result, other vehicles behind the vehicle approaching you may happen to hit it if the drivers fail to stop their cars at the right time. With that being said, do you actually realise how dangerous you are becoming by simply crossing the street without paying attention? Well, I won't lie to you, though. Most of us probably do jaywalk every once in a while. However, after watching the video, I shall always keep in mind to refrain from doing so as I value my life. I don't know what the woman was thinking when she started walking towards the middle of the street. Nonetheless, while she was crossing it halfway, she seemed to finally realise that she shouldn't have actually started crossing in the first place as it was nearly certain she would get trapped on the centre double line. Unfortunately, she decided to take the worst option, to turn back! Let me remind you, when you cross the street, especially if you're already halfway, you'll probably be better off going forward or halt when necessary rather than turning back. Turning back is very dangerous! Moreover, the woman in the video didn't watch out for any oncoming traffic prior to turning back. Well, I'll have to be honest with you. It didn't really come as a surprise seeing the woman get hit by the scooter. The scooter rider, however, didn't seem like he was paying attention, either. Had he paid more attention on the road ahead, he should, at least, have been able to decelerate. Furthermore, jaywalkers often have erratic behaviour that they may turn back or even jump when motorists least expect it.

  20. I bet you don't get to see that much when a traffic police officer goes against a scooter running at what seems to be a full speed. Honestly, it's the first time I stumbled upon such an occasion. But again, as I mentioned in the title, this is another Russian oddity. In case you haven't noticed, the Russians seem the best to go for when you're looking for some odd mishaps - you might want to check out this Hummer video as well. There's no exact word on what reason the police officer had in mind when he intended to stop the scooter. Most likely, though, the scooter rider had violated some traffic laws. Nevertheless, it seems that the Russians should teach their police officers a better way of stopping someone, especially one who's driving or riding on a vehicle. So, thing is, the police officer tried to stop the fast running scooter head on and I fail to figure out why this method seemed preferable to the officer in question. It's out of the question that this might as well lead to death or, at least, massive body injuries (you can see the officer finding it hard to get up in the video). Fortunately, the police officer didn't cause the scooter rider to lose his life. Had he done so, instead of enforcing the law, he would have had to go to prison. You know, instead of trying to tackle the scooter head on, the police officer could have achieved the very same result - yet with less risk of injuries, at least to himself - by stepping away from the scooter and kicking it hard sideways, preferably into the vehicle's front wheel. In that way, the runaway rider would be likely to lose his front wheel and would have been the only one to suffer from injuries. The officer, on the other hand, wouldn't have suffered from any at all and would still manage to stop both the scooter and the rider quite effectively. However, again, you can see in the video that, thanks to the officer's weird and ridiculous decision (at least so it seems to me), it happened the other way round. The scooter rider seemed unscathed at all while the officer, as I said earlier, could barely get back on his feet.
  21. Iron Man is the heroic movie character played by Tony Stark - a selfish and arrogant character who's always proud of himself, yes, quite ironic, indeed - in the Iron Man movie series. However, it seems that Tony Stark isn't the only person dreaming of becoming the Iron Man. You can see that in the images we come across on the World Wide Web. There's a diverse range of motorbikes that their owners convert such that they look like a ride especially designed for the hero who gained his popularity from the comic series. What's unique is that while some of the motorbikes are as fierce as the Kawasaki ZX-14R, there're also scooters which aren't likely, if at all, to become a ride for the Iron Man. However, though, it's the right of every single person out there to convert their ride to look as if it belongs to the superhero. So, have a look for yourself. Oh, by the way, there're also concept designs by Wang Buffon for the superhero's ride if you like.
  22. hello bros and sis anyone know where got large selection of kid scooter? Wanted to buy a pink one for my daughter..... thanks in advance
  23. I was travelling along PIE towards Changi and I saw a male TP, in white riding a scooter. Those scooter that mostly only TP rides. In fact this is the 3rd time I have seen them riding scooters. Even though I dun really like TPs but I do have my respect for these men in blue in their macho WRXs or in white riding on their Honda or Yamaha. They certainly dun look too manly in that gentle machine. I know about policemen in bikes in certain NPCs. So now TP in scooters???

  25. Public Service Announcement: Apparently, it is illegal to mount a reverse-pointing flame thrower on the back of a scooter in the United Kingdom. Who knew? Not our man Colin Furze of Lincolnshire, England, that's for sure. The 30-year-old Furze created a wicked awesome video of himself and the scooter, which allegedly showed him using the two-wheeler on the highway with the flame thrower attached. Want to see for yourself? Done. Click on past the break. Police spotted the videos on the Interwebs and promptly arranged to meet up with him. According to Lincolnshire Police, "A man was arrested on suspicion of possessing an object converted to a firearm on Thursday. He was released on unconditional bail.'' That man is reported to be none other than Furze. Maximum penalty if found guilty? A prison sentence of five to seven years at Crown Court. What kind of world do we live in when an "anti-tailgating" flame thrower lands a man in jail? Check out this video
