Yahoo news: Singapore youth footballers earn 'once-in-a-lifetime' chance at Brazil club A group of Singapore youngsters are set to follow in the footsteps of Singapore youth international Mahathir Azeman by heading for a training stint in Brazil this November. The attacking midfielder impressed at SC Boavista during a five-month stint in 2013, subsequently earning a one-year contract to play for their reserve side this year. Now, former S.League player and current schools coach Fabio da Silva, who helped to arrange Mahathir’s trip, will be leading 10 boys for a 22-day experience at Vasco da Gama, a Rio de Janeiro outfit which has produced the likes of Romario and Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho. The trip is scheduled from November 14 to December 6 and the players will train with Vasco’s various youth teams and also take part in friendly matches. This time, the players come from various schools that Da Silva coaches at primary, secondary and junior college level. Their ages range from nine to 17 years old. “It is a huge group,” he said. “We’ve been following them and seen them play; we don’t want to send just anyone there, we want the boys to have ability. Vasco da Gama is [a] very big [club] and this will be a very interesting and very big opportunity [for them].” Paving the way Da Silva revealed that Vasco was impressed with some of the talented young players they saw whilst here for the 2011 Lion City Cup and subsequently approached him to establish a link. CNA Report : Football: Brazilian Olympic football team to play friendly against Singapore SINGAPORE: Brazil's star-studded football team will be in Singapore for a friendly match against Singapore's national team. The Lions will face some of the world's best players such as Ronaldinho and Robinho in the match on July 28. Singapore is the first of two acclimatisation stops before the Brazil team heads to Beijing for the Olympics. The match will take place at the National Stadium. Tickets range from $60 to $120. The team will fly to Vietnam for the second game on July 29. Singapore's efficiency and safety plus the country being in the same time zone as Beijing helped woo one of the world's most popular teams to its shores. Winston Lee, general secretary of Football Association of Singapore, said: "We started negotiations with the agent in May and we had to contend with a few big countries in Asia and Europe. We are happy, of course, today to announce we have secured Brazil to play in Singapore on July 28." Weird..... Would you pay SG$60/- ~ SG$120/- to see Brazil soccer team heading for Beijing Olympic warming up by playing a friendly soccer against SG national team..... Maybe, $10 ~ $15 should be enough ...... , afterall it is not a competition game and each players could only play for about 20 minutes and as in friendlies, they could change as many players as possible. July 20, 2008 Brazil Olympic team to play in Singapore: officials BRAZIL'S Olympic football team, including stars Ronaldinho and Robinho, will play an exhibition match in Singapore before they head to next month's Olympic Games in Beijing, officials said on Sunday. The Brazilians will play a Singapore team on July 28 after arriving in the city state on July 23, the Football Association of Singapore said in a statement with promoters of the event. 'The trip to Singapore is part of the Brazilian team's two-stop acclimatisation camp before they head to Beijing to vie for their first Olympic gold medal', the statement said. Brazil are also set to play Vietnam's full national side in a friendly in Hanoi on August 1.
