PART 1 - TAS-SG, The Overview (photos here have s--t res. becos image tags do not allow for full res images) http://garage36.blogspot.sg/ Had to pen my thoughts just as i got back from TAS-SG yesterday evening. For the first time ever, TAS has brought it's show overseas (Thailand's is Bangkok International Auto Salon) and i was fortunate to be invited for a short early preview of the show before the doors opened to the public so was able to get in some shots of the cars before the crowds swarmed in. Consisting of one main hall, it isn't quite as big as the main show in Japan, nor are the cars parked as tightly together might i add. It can pretty much be covered in less than a day, but let's not jump to conclusions just yet. I'm guessing for petrolheads, one of the main draws are the presence of the Japanese tuner houses which to give the organisers credit, getting them down was probably a hat-trick in itself given the limited market our little island has for them. Although i would have hoped for a more stellar showcase of cars, i won't complain. After all, we have to start somewhere right? As the other members of the press got in as many shots as possible, i decided to just take in as much as i can while occasionally getting in a photo or two. One thing i had wished for was for more merchandise from the overseas exhibitors. If you've been to the show in Japan, one of the things to take note of when visiting is to keep a tight watch over your wallet as there are just tonnes and tonnes of goodies to be bought! The only exhibitor which brought along lots of stuff to buy was Vertex, unfortunately, they forgot to bring along a car to showcase. I'm guessing their 2JZ powered BMW is probably busy in the D1 circuit to make this trip. Well, there's always next time. You can buy a BMW keychain from them though. It looks pretty rad. RE Amemiya also brought along some goodies but their prices reflect their exclusivity. From cars that made the long boat ride down, we swap over to take a look at those which made the trip from just across the border. It's pretty interesting to see how automotive styling has evolved over the years, from loud and bombastic aerokits to the current stance movement. Some cars stranger than others, but i do love a couple of retro JDM rides that were present. Especially this brown KE70 Corolla, so clean. Just perfect. This little carbon wrapped Civic also had my attention for the longest time. I will do a more detailed post of the more notable cars later.

I think many of you have been waiting for this... I know i know, i've been holding back on you all on these pictures but truth be told, i was hoping to finish off all the automotive posts before starting on them ladies. But with so many more photos to sift through, i think it is only fair i present to you all, part 1 of the lovely lasses i spotted at the 2012 Auto Salon. I think since most of you won't be reading this anyway, i will keep my comments short. Here we go! Kawaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii~ She was promoting something... i forgot what it was. I think it was side indicator lamps... Gotta get me shot of the side indicator now... She keeps getting in the way! Since the previous girl kept getting in the way of my side indicator shot, i moved on... Nitto chicks. There... better...

Tokyo Auto Salon 2012 - Honda Of all the manufacturers at the Auto Salon, Honda had one of the most varied showcases around, showcasing their classics, hybrids, JGTC racers, an open wheeled racer, as well as their street cars. The most anticipated of them all for me would be this pair of Supercharged CR-Zs. Tagged, CR-Z Type-RRs, i sure hope they make it to production. Looking menacing in orange or green, pick your favourite. Looks like this kid just wants the engine. These 2 look ready to hit the tracks. A cool vending machine for you to purchase some classic themed t-shirts. That's Snoopy there! I should have bought a t-shirt on the 1st day i arrived because on they were all sold out when i came back on the 3rd day. You could buy your Honda memorabilia here too. I bought a Choro-Q CRX. Following up the classic cars featured previously, the Vtec pioneers also brought along some of their rejuvenated past heros, like the S800 above. Immaculate. Probably the cleanest Best around? The original Honda Life van. Even old bikes were featured.

Friend just opened a new salon in Joo Chiat, asked me to come down and take a look. It's a modern vietnamese style salon. The deco is damn nice, and the place is very big but cosy. Their concept is to have a place for guys to hang out and relax while enjoying their "grooming". They have quite a lot of services, hair cut, wash, scalp massage,, hand and foot grooming in the spa area, hair colouring etc. Their specialty is ear cleaning viet style, damn shiok. Prices are super reasonable cause they just opened about a month and a half ago, but the service is top notch! Anyway I took some pics with my phone so you guys can have a look. They also have some good eye candy, their staff are all very friendly. ( must say first, no specials so don't bother asking but the girls are really good) It was an awesome experience. For those who want to come down, I think their opening hours are from 12-9.30pm everyday, address is 260 Joo Chiat Road. ALeDa Salon

Tokyo Auto Salon 2012 - Stars and Diamonds: Subarus and Mitsubishis Although Subaru's show-stopper this year at the auto salon was the BRZ, there was no let up on other exciting cars from Fuji Heavy Industries and various other tuners. This Impreza from Car Service Hiro certainly caught many visitors' attention, at first glance, looking very very much like a Mercedes, the big letters was the biggest clue to what lay beneath all that custom bodywork. The exhibitors were still giving it a once over when we arrived in the morning of the 1st day. Check out those massive massive wheels and the chopped roof. The wildest Impreza of the show? Back at Subaru's booth, they had a couple of tuned S206s. Take your pick. Maybe you'd prefer a JGTC racer? And if Rally is more your 'thang, here you go. This is the new face of the latest Imprezas. I didn't really like it. A little bit too chunky for my taste. To be fair though, it actually looked better in real life then in pictures. I tried to take as many angles as i could but it really doesn't photograph well at all. Elsewhere, Varis had an STI sedan all decked out. HKS Kansai also had a go with the STI sedan. Blitz showing off their lovely exhaust systems. And HKS Advan bringing on show the previous generation STI WRX. Rounding off the Subarus is Tommy Kaira's good looking Legacy Wagon.

It might be the last and final part, but good things come to those who wait! Enjoy! Some sassy Suzuki ladies... Not sure what they were promoting? Here's a closer look. Ooops, my camera slipped... NGK spark plugs are good stuff. Mmm.... plug... spark plug...

http://garage36.blogspot.com/2012/03/tokyo...r-daihatsu.html Tokyo Auto Salon 2012 - K-Power! Daihatsu & Suzuki Now that i've hopefully satisfied some appetites for delicious "image girls", it's time to get back to cars. Unmistakably Japanese, you'd often find these 660cc Kei-cars running around town as they zip in between traffic gaps and dart into small tiny lanes. With these cars enjoying such popularity, it is no surprise there are tons and tons of aftermarket support for the little cars from Japan. Although most manufacturers in Japan have their own versions of the K-car, Daihatsu and Suzuki are probably the makes that first come into your mind when you think of these little pocket cars. They may be small in size, but sometimes, they can be big on image. Like the Copen from KLC. Slammed, wild camber, and running on oversized wheels you'd think the little 660cc motor will struggle to move. A different take on the Copen from Grand-Slam, looking a little bit more feminine on the inside. If the above was a "little" bit feminine, this Copen presented by FEEL was that bit "more" girly. Am sure these ladies approve. I honestly have no idea what this is, but it looked good. Slightly old car and built to a different beat, this Mira from Car Produce A.K.R. looked like it was ready to hit the tracks. It doesn't just look crazy, it was also converted to a RWD platform. Awesome.

Tokyo Auto Salon 2012 - Of GTRs & Nissans How does one start off a post on the Nissans of the Tokyo Auto Salon? Or rather, how does one start off a post on the GTRs of the Auto Salon? No trip to Japan would ever be complete for an auto otaku until the first sighting of a GTR. It doesn't matter if it was an R32,33,34 or 35, the first sighting of these mythical Godzillas roaming around on their home turf is enough to send electricity up the spines of those enthusiast. And at the auto salon, there was no stortage of Godzilla sightings to keep us JDM-fans happy. Nissan brought out their 2012 GTR Black Edition and if you wanted, you could hop inside. Flanking the Black Edition were a pair of JGTC monsters. Advan also displayed their JGTC competitor. With the Cyber EVO due for retirement, development of it's replacement, the Cyber GTR is well under way. Can't mistake the paintwork for anything else. No strangers to the world of GTR tuning, Top Secret brought out this durty duo. That man in the red jacket is Mr Smokey Nagata himself! (He seemed camera shy) Phoenix Power's GTRs with one wearing the uber light and uber expensive BBS FIs. HKS Kansai representing. Can't mistake that yellow for anything other then a JUN car. HTF's massive winged GTR.

Tokyo Auto Salon 2012 - The Carpark Since i've covered all the euro imports, let's take a breather and head out to the carpark of Makuhari Messe and see what are the cars being driven to the Auto Salon. The cars that people actually drive as their commutes. 2 years ago i missed out on the carpark as i was just too busy shooting pictures inside the halls, this time, i made it a point to head out and explore. The first thing that hit me was just how vast the carpark was. There's no way i could have covered the entire carpark, so i just randomly walked around and turned when i see something that catches my eye. Like the trio of Supras above. Were these wangan warriors? You can seriously just spend hours here cool-car-hunting (or Speedhunting?). Cars which are cool to us are probably quite normal to the Japanese. Like the Nissan Gloria, R San-Yon and AE86. This Itasha Alphard looked pretty cool. There were a number of old school Japanese nostalgic cars, some tuned, some not... ...but this old school Toyota Crown wagon was my favourite. Here's a more modern Crown wagon.

Tokyo Auto Salon 2012 - Old School Cool Compared with previous years' Auto Salons, this time, i did not spot many classics on the show floor. But those that were present made up for the lack of quantity with some quality showings. Retro favourites Rocky Auto showed off 2 JDM legends, an S30 Fairlady and a Hakosuka. Both tweaked, both insane. The Fairlady was jazzed up with a love-it or hate-it chrome wrap, ran a RB26. Rocky Auto's Hakosuka was constantly under siege by showgoers. What lay under the bonnet? Another RB26? How about a V8 from a Lexus LS400 (Toyota Celsior)? Purist stand back! Another car bound to give anoraks a heart attack is this 2000GT legend converted to run on electricity, complete with solar panels on the bonnet. Along the same lines as the 2000GT is this Subaru 360, also converted to run on batteries. Now that we are done with the horror of EV classics, here we present to you this beautifully lovely petrol drinking Kenmeri. Pictures just don't do these cars any justice at all. You just have to see them in the flesh. I wish to have my very own Kenmeri one day... This Fairlady is just beginning to have her youth renewed. Star Road's Fairlady sitting pretty and pristine. HCR showing us how wild an early Starlet can be. Phat wheels on a phat ride.

I think this deserves a seperate post: Tokyo Auto Salon 2012 - The Italians There were no shortage of sexy Italian metal in the halls of the Auto Salon. Pimped up Lamborghinis, petite Fiat500s and a couple of Ferraris. Let's start with some old school flavour with a black Testarossa flanked by 2 lovely laides, sitting at Goodyear's booth, next to the lovely RUF featured in a previous post. HRE had a California with 2 different sets of wheels on each side. Pirelli had a pretty stock looking Ferrari FF, it was my first time seeing the FF in the flesh and being a fan of the Shooting Brake style, i loved it. Need new wheels for your Prancing Horse? How about some Asantis? I liked the detailing on the edge of the rim. Hyper Forged wheels had Ferrari's stablemate, Maserati, on some rather big kicks to fill up the entire wheelwell. Not forgetting Ferrari's parent company, there were some Fiats on display as well. This yellow 500 from Tipo looked particularly sweet.

Was in Tokyo 2 weeks ago for the Auto Salon. Here are some BMWs. Tokyo Auto Salon 2012 - The BMWs There were quite a number of BMWs on display at TAS this year and since my blog stemmed from my love of the marque, i shall start of my TAS postings with the cars from Bavaria! ERJ Sports Development had a pair of fattened E90 sedans looking race ready with their "ZeroFighter" kit. Laptorr's M3 was sitting close by. Arma showed off their newly boosted Z4 sDrive23i. Up to slightly over 300 horses from 200 odd. Impressive. I really liked the splash graphics on the sides. Rowen also had a Z4 on their stand. They call it, the "White Wolf". It was nice to see an E36 still on display. This one had pretty cool silver carbon elements. BBS had a 1M from Studie wearing their very sexy, very expensive and very lightweight BBS FIs. FI for Forged Individual. How light? In 19" size, a wheel will come in at slightly below 7.4 kgs. Amazing. Amongst all the BMWs on show, F10s were the choice of most tuners this year. Work wheels had an F10. So did 3D Design. So did Studie. Showcasing an ACS'd F10.
