  1. Scheduled to be unveiled in Sweden on 21 Feb. I personally think Volvo has another winner in it stable! [thumbsup]
  2. Source: https://www.motor1.com/news/569280/2022-volvo-s60-black-edition/ Volvo is the latest automaker to go dark, and by that, we mean offering a special edition model festooned with all kinds of black trim. The Swedish brand doesn't pull any punches, either, choosing to call its newly darkened sedan the S60 Black Edition. Simple name, simple upgrades; hard to find fault with that. As the name suggests, the S60 Black Edition wears plenty of black trim on the outside, starting with the grille surround and Volvo badging in the middle. Moving to the side you'll find black window trim and side mirrors, but the major update comes with the wheels. The Black Edition gets an exclusive set of 19-inchers with a gloss black finish, and there's more black trim at the back with the Volvo lettering on the decklid. Even the exhaust tips are blacked out for this special model. Volvo doesn't mention any special updates for the interior, but the S60 Black Edition is offered in just two exterior colors. Crystal While Metallic offers a sharp contrast with the black trim, or for those who truly want the darkest Volvo of all time, Onyx Black Metallic creates a monochrome look. The Black Edition is purely an appearance package, so all the S60 mechanicals under the skin remain the same – a boosted 2.0-liter four-cylinder working with some measure of electric power that offers up to 415 horsepower (309 kilowatts) in range-topping PHEV trim. "The design of the S60 Black Edition evokes a passionate response across the company," said Eric Beak, Volvo USA head of design. "We’re very proud that the Black Edition has been designed here in the US and will be built by our US team in South Carolina."
  3. hi all, have narrowed my choices to these 2 cars there are probably other better cars out there but would like to hear regarding these 2 need a second opinion here which one will you choose and why ? many thanks !
  4. Stationwagons are not exactly the de facto car of choice for Asian buyers, but the cutting-edge styling of this V60 had our team curious, so we tested one to see if it is still the perfect family hauler. Initial impressions are good, with the car delivering sleek, Swedish design inside and out. Standout features include the 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system flanked by rectangular air vents as well as the larger-than-life panoramic sunroof. Children and in-laws will have scant to complain of in the rear, with ample space all around for all rear occupants, thanks to Volvo's Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform, the current generation not only sports a 100mm longer wheelbase than before, which translates into greater rear legroom, but boot capacity has also been increased to a now class-leading 529 litres. Fold the rear benches down and a generous 1,441 litres of hauling space will be available to you. Meanwhile, the family man will also be pleased to know that the T5 R-Design we tested is capable of finishing the century sprint in just 6.5 seconds, and comes with a driving mode selector, allowing you to toggle between four different driving modes to extract different driving characteristics from the car - Eco, Normal, Dynamic and Individual, perfect for those rare occasions where you get the car all to yourself. Read our full review of the V60 here!
  5. Anyone has tested the new S60 ? Saw the Promo price and the power looks good !
  6. Dear all, If you have followed my previous thread, (http://www.mycarforum.com/topic/2700072-mte-garage-bartley-biz-personal-experience/), you would know that I had a bad experience with an overpriced and un-usable custom tune (my opinion). Well to cut it short, aftermarket tuners haven’t not caught up with the skillset to tune newer Volvos yet. So after wasting $10k on some hot air blowing promises, I decided to just go with piggy back tuning from this company based in Germany called racechip. (http://www.racechip.com/chiptuning/volvo/s60/y20/t5-176kw/index.php). I paid $980 nett inclusive of labour and got the racechip ultimate. You can enquire it from Antz Automobile, Fong Kim, Nightz Concepts . So to put it succinctly, my previous unstable tune from MTE was full of torque steer (car vibrating when you accelerate too hard), slow pickup from 0-200km/h, little increase from HP and max speed top out at 200km/h. I tested the car in NS highway and these are my feedback. I reverted back to stock for a while and installed the RaceChip. The RaceChip feel was instantaneous. Higher torque from lower rpm, much more stability with no torque steer, way faster acceleration from 0-200km/h and top speed max out at 220km/h. For a mere $980, these improvements are well worth the money. Attached are the dyno for RaceChip and my previous unstable tune. While the unstable tune numbers look slightly better. It was a tune that was difficult to drive, huge fuel consumption and most importantly stalled the car constantly.
  7. Dear all, I am looking for this set of R rims to replace my stock 16" for my S60. Do PM me if you are selling. Gong Xi Fa Chai !!

  9. The US Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has released data on the top safety picks for 2013. All the vehicles tested belong to the 2013 model year. This year, the IIHS came out with a new award on top of the usual TOP SAFETY PICK award. Called the TOP SAFETY PICK+ award, vehicles must earn good ratings for occupant protection in at least 4 of 5 evaluations, and no less than acceptable in the fifth test in order to earn it. The models award the TOP SAFETY PICK+ award are mostly mid-sized sedans. They include the Acura TL, Chrysler 200, Dodge Avenger, Ford Fusion, Honda Accord Sedan/Coupe, Kia Optima, Nissan Altima Sedan, Subaru Legacy, Subaru Outback, Suzuki Kizashi, Volkswagen Passat and the Volvo S60. The models underlined are available for sale in Singapore. The 2013 Honda Accord sedan should be making its debut locally in the coming months. If you are looking for a 'certified' safe car to ferry your family, do check them out. Honda Accord Kia Optima Subaru Legacy Suzuki Kizashi Volkswagen Passat Volvo S60
  10. [extract] On the first day of the new year, I was pleasantly surprised that the 1.6 GDTI engine from Volvo has finally made its debut in Singapore in the form of the estate version of the S60, the V60. I decided to do some technical research on this
  11. Volvo has unveiled the S60 and V60 R-Designs ahead of the Paris Motor Show, in an effort to further enhance the appeal of these new models. The R-Designs have a revised grille, modified bumpers, an aggressive rear diffuser, and unique 18-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the cabin features sport seats, aluminum pedals, and special floor mats. To improve handling, Volvo engineers installed a strut brace, shorter springs (which reduce ride height 15mm), and stiffer bushings (20% firmer than the standard model). On top of these, they also added monotube rear dampers and Corner Traction Control which uses torque vectoring to reduce understeer. The R-Design package can be combined with all available engines, ranging from the 115HP DRIVE 1.6-liter diesel unit to the range topping 3.0-liter turbocharged-six petrol with 304 horsepower.
  12. Volvo is one of those manufacturers that are seriously pursuing engine downsizing in their larger passenger cars. They first started using a small 1.6liter direct injection turbo diesel in their flagship saloon the S80 a few months back and according to European reviewers, the car is still a refined car. So in a bid to further lower the carbon emissions and increaase fuel economy throughout their vehicle range, Volvo have now launched their Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection (GTDi) engines in 1.6liter form which will deliver high (for its size) performance while delivering favorable fuel consumption. The new 1.6liter will firstly be available in the new S60 sedan and V60 station wagon variants. The 1.6liter GTDi which will be fitted in the S/V60 T3 version will have 150bhp/240Nm and the T4 version with a 180bhp/240Nm. The T4 variant will have a ECU controlled overboost feature that will increase torque to 270Nm which is available on demand
  13. [extract] Mercedes Benz owners have got Brabus Carlsson and a few others to tweak their cars. BMW owners have got Hartge and Alpina to name a few too. Audi and VW owners have ABT and MTM if you wanted to tune one. But when it comes to Volvo, that sometimes is the other choice that is chosen over the usual suspects mentioned above, you are usually stumped on what
  14. With first deliveries of the all-new Volvo S60 just right around the corner, it's high time for the German aftermarket gurus at Heico Sportiv to ready their performance and aerodynamic enhancements for the much-promising Swedish sedan. The tuning firm released the first drawings and illustrations of their package for the new S60. Exterior modifications include lip spoilers on both corners of the front bumper, side skirts, a discreet boot lid spoiler and a rear apron housing a diffuser. The new exhaust tail pipes and Heico's own alloy wheels will also be part of the package. The Volvo specialists also plan to develop a modified suspension for the new S60. In addition, engine modifications could take the car

    Racy Volvo 60

The all-new 2011 S60 sedan was only just introduced to the public at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2010, but Volvo has already prepared a racing version that will enter the 2010 season of the Belgian Touring Car Series (BTCS). The new S60 racer was developed locally by Volvo's Belgian S60 Racing Team in accordance with the BTCS Silhouette S1 regulations. All cars participating in the series must use a tubular chassis. The front suspension is independently set up with 3-way adjustable damper and the rear suspension features 3-way onboard adjustable shocks absorbers. Volvo's proposal features a mid-mounted 3.5-liter V6 engine with 410-horsepower and 412 Nm of torque at 5,500rpm. A six-speed sequential gearbox drives the rear-wheels. Stopping power is provided by 6-pot calipers on all four corners with 380mm discs up front and 355mm at the back. The Swedish sedan's maiden track test took place on April 1 on the Belgian Zolder track, while its racing premiere takes place on April 11.
  16. Volvo has unleashed a slew of photos and details of its very promising all-new 2011 S60 sedan that will make its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show on 2 March. The premium model, which is aimed directly at cars like the Audi A4 and Mercedes C-Class, is described by Volvo as the firm's most dynamic car ever produced, not only in terms of styling but also in terms of driving characteristics. Even though the design has been toned down a notch from the S60 study model in the 2009 Detroit Show, it remains very close to the original concept. Inside, the styling is equally refreshing with Volvo's designers paying extra attention to details and the choice of materials. The Swedes also claim that it's more spacious that its predecessor, offering 30mm more knee room for the rear passengers while boot opening has been made 107 mm wider than in the previous S60. The new sedan can be specified with a choice of two chassis, Dynamic and Comfort, with the differences in the dampers and the front and rear subframes. In Europe, the newly developed dynamic chassis is standard, while most markets in North America and Asia will have the comfort chassis as standard with the sport variant available as an option. At launch, the car will be available with two diesel and two gasoline units with three more petrol and one diesel to follow later on. I will touch on the gasoline options since they are more relevant to the Singapore market. The most powerful gasoline engine is the 3.0-liter T6 petrol with 304HP and 440 Nm of torque. It is combined with standard AWD and second-generation six-speed automatic Geartronic transmission. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes 6.5 seconds and top speed is 250 km/h. The new four-cylinder 2.0 GTDi (Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection) engine produces 203HP and 300Nm with acceleration from 0-100 km/h taking 7.7 seconds for the manual gearbox while the automatic version takes 8.2 seconds. The top speed figures are 235km/h and 230 km/h for the manual and automatic versions respectively. A 1.6-litre GTDi engine available in 180HP and 150HP configurations will be offered later on during the first year of production. All the GTDi gasoline engines will be available in combination with Volvo's automatic six-speed Powershift transmission or a six-speed manual gearbox. Interior photos of the new S60 can be found below. The compact luxury sector is set to be spiced up again!
  17. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-E4C4rwjH8 Volvo is building up the anticipation of its 3 series basher by releasing an action video of the car on the road and the desert. It won't be long before we see the all-new Volvo S60 sedan in the flesh as the Swedish firm is planning its launch at the 2010 Geneva Motorshow. Two more promotional films will be released by mid February. Volvo hasn't issued specific details on the car that's based on the 2009 Detroit Show S60 Concept, but it is believed that it will utilise the turbocharged gasoline engines with direct-injection which includes the recently revealed 2.0 GTDI engine with 203bhp and a 1.6-liter four pot with up to 180bhp.

    Sexy S60!

Here's the official photo of the new 2010 Volvo S60. It's new found curvy contours is a far cry from the boxy shape of the early Volvos. Some might say that such a design philosophy from Volvo has made it lost its uniqueness but I quite like it personally. The all new S60 will most likely share its underpinnings with the next generation Ford Focus. This would guarantee above average handling capabilities to take on the king of luxury compact sedans - The BMW 3 series. The new S60 will be powered by the new 1.6L Ecoboost engine from Ford. Most likely to be mated to the Powershift dual clutch transmission.
  19. Ford Motor Company announced that it has settled all the substantive commercial terms with China's Geely Holding Group Company Limited on the prospected sale of its Volvo unit. Ford commented that some works such as final documentation, financing and government approvals need to be done before the deal is sealed. However, the company anticipates that a definitive sale agreement will be signed in the first quarter of 2010, with closing of the sale likely to occur in the second quarter of the same year. The Detroit automaker added that it would continue to cooperate with Volvo Cars in several areas after the sale, but it does not plan to retain any shares in the business. It is believed that Geely is offering the U.S. automaker around $2 billion dollars for the Swedish brand, which is less than a third of what Ford paid for the it a decade ago. With the prospected sale of Volvo, Ford will offload the last brand in the Premier Automotive Group that also included Jaguar, Land Rover and Aston Martin. Personally, I feel that such a move will not do any good to the image of Volvo. Geely's brand image is that of a basic budget vehicle while Volvo has a strong continental image with an emphasis on safety. In an image conscious society like Singapore, I am not sure how many buyers would be willing to fork out a premium amount for a car whose parent company is associated with budget products. Volvo has some interesting lineups in the coming year, such as the S60. It would be sad that the sales of these wonderful vehicles be jeopardized by the potential Geely takeover. I hope that the sale of Volvo to Geely would not take place eventually.
