[extract] Rust is something we usually see on old or poorly maintained cars. It is the corrosion of iron and its alloy and usually associated with junk metal. When someone sees a rusted item, in their mind, it is not worth saving or keeping and that item would normally be discarded. Car owners do not want to see rust on their car

My reinforment bars has got rust at its corners and is advised to treat it. However the WS I patronise doesnt do that. Any one got contacts to do rust treatments? Also for ATF, can I get the Amsoil ATF for SX4, which requires Dexron 3?

What kind of treatment can be done?

Have some rust at the ends of my front reinforcement bars. Will be going down to WS for servicing. Anyone knows how much does it cost to treat the rust? Also any good engine oil recommendation? Quite tight for time so no time to buy Amsoil... Car manual recommends 5W30.

Hi guys, The bottom of my car bumper kanna scraped by some high curbs. No damage can be seen unless i bend down all the way and put my head under the bumper. A large part of the bottom bumper which suppose to have paint is scraped till i can see lots of white, grey patches (not sure if it's the paint of the curb or the inner paint coat, my car is not white) I'm afraid the bottom part will get rusted. Would rust spread? Should i worry and go get it sprayed or just leave it? I suppose no one can see it excepts those cats that like to go under my car, so visually it is not affecting me at all. They should mark different curb level with different colours ah...

Used to rely on the Turtlewax "Rust converter" to remove rusty areas on my COE 120Y. The solution is milky white in color, and would react with the rust and turn it black. According to the packing, the treated area will not rust again. Proven to be quite true. Now that many COE cars are gone, I don't seem to be able to find the "Rust converter" anymore. It used to be available at the premium (ie expensive) DIY shops like Homefix. Visited Selfix at White Sands earlier, and all the counter girl could say was "har?" when I asked her about the product. Anyone knows where to can I get the "Rust converter"? IIRC it cost S$10-15. Managed to find an old bottle at my mum's storeroom, but it was all dried up.

Don't know how much Kah charges for them but are the really necessary in Singapore where cars are mostly driven for 5 - 7 years...? These days, car bodies are already galvanized and that itself already protects against rust.. then the point of rust protection systems pitch is, you are adding protection, but as far as I know, so long as there is even a crack in the protection, rust might set in, not matter what protection you have. Any inputs? Thx.

Worth to do it?

I am getting my car next week. Cann someone advise me whether I need to do the under carriage rust proofing.
-
bros, most cars already rust-proofed, but with the car being continuously drenched for 2 weeks day and night, any danger of rust ? More worried about the hidden corner areas where water can stay, like in engine-bay, boot, doors, undercarraige etc.

I heard nowadays new cars are made with materials that are anti-corrosive in nature. So what's the point of sending the car in for those periodic rust proof coating / re-coating?? The car's coe expires in 10yrs and more likely than not, we would have sold it or scrapped it in 5yrs time. My bro has a Nissan Sunny for 8yrs, he hasn't been to a rust proofing agent once, and its still rust free to this day. Anyone's view different from mine?

Hi All Korean Car Owners, Did you go for rust preventive coating when you buy ur ride? SE recommended to go for it...but me not too sure cos thought all new cars should be "rust protected" liao. Thanks for any advice!

hi all experts out there, i am a dunno-nothing-about-car getting my first car (suzuki liana hatchback) on tuesday. sales rep asked if I want to take up their anti-rust and anti-bird sxxt ($300), and vkool solar film ($650). i hope to use my car for ten years. is the anti-rust really necessary? i hope to do long malaysia trips regularly. (once a month). does the solar film really make the car more comfortable? should i take up the champion motor offer or should I look else where? by the way, when i bought the car the sales-rep told me no need to do anti-rust because car is already "galvanised". no need solar film because the glass already "tinted". feel a bit lost now. :-))) thanks.

Folks I had changed my exhaust pipe recently before sending my car in to the spray paint shop. Somehow at the paint shop, water accumulated within the pipe and made it rust a little. I called tuff kote and they say they don't do rust on exhaust pipe. Anyone know where I can get the rust fixed? Thanks! M
