  1. Back to the age-old question - Is it easier to park with or without cars around you? In the forum discussion above, many said that it is easier to park with cars around you. Well, I would think otherwise. Watch this clip and find out why: This incident happened at an open-air carpark, located at 877 Tampines Street 84. What happened? The Lalamove driver, who was driving a Renault SUV, was caught on cam reversing into a PARKED AND STATIONARY Perodua. Oh wells. I am guessing the Lalamove driver held onto the notion that parking with cars around you will be easier. After realising he hit the Perodua, the Lalamove driver did not bother to even alight and check on the damage to both cars. Instead, he scooted away and parked at a nearby lot. How did it happen? Honestly, I don't know how an incident like this can even happen. I mean, almost every modern car these days comes equipped with parking sensors and a reverse camera. I am assuming that the Lalamove driver: (1) was using his mobile phone while reversing, or (2) did not bother to check his side mirrors while reversing. It is almost impossible to commit a hit and run in this day and age, especially with every vehicle armed with a dashcam - You will be caught, and the police will find you. Netizens' comments Maybe HDB has to start installing poles, similar to those in driving schools. What a shame. Same. I was looking intently as he attempted to park the 2nd time. Exactly my point. Got so many types of cameras - Dashcam, HDB CCTVs, LTA CCTVs and Police surveillance cameras. How to siam all of them? Update: Both parties have privately settled this incident among themselves. --- Thinking of selling your car? sgCarMart Quotz guarantees the highest selling price for your car. 2. A driver was caught reversing dangerously along Braddell Road with a moderate amount of traffic. It's insane! I know! The incident took place yesterday (July 6) at 3pm (which is around the time when traffic starts to pick up at that area). A red Honda Fit having missed the initial exit leading towards Lorong Chuan/CTE(SLE) along Braddell Road (see map to see where we think this happened), stops in the middle of the road with total disregard of the motorist behind it. As the video progresses, you realise that it's slowly reversing and stopping every few seconds to avoid crashing into other drivers. Even heavy vehicles had to stop and switch lanes when they noticed what the driver was doing. Who is this mad driver? According to eyewitnesses, the driver was a lady who appeared to be in a rush towards her destination. This was incredibly hard to watch and it's a miracle that she managed to get away with it. Netizens’ reactions According to the Driver Improvement Points System (DIPS), reversing unnecessarily on roadways is a serious offence. If caught, the driver will be issued 6 demerit points and a composition fine of $200. --- Thinking of selling your car? sgCarMart Quotz guarantees the highest selling price for your car. 3. Hi was wondering how to deal with motorcyclist who squeezed behind when vehicle reversing into lot suddenly? Before reversing I checked there was no vehicle/ motorcycle around. Then with hazard light on was reversing and this motorcycle suddenly appeared and squeeze in the gap between the lot and other stationary cars parked beside. Good thing he managed to do it skillfully and no one was hurt I horned to him and he showed middle finger.
  4. Hello, Accident happened just before JB customs (outbound to Singapore) on 19th November 2017 at around 9pm. I have rear car camera footage of the accident. If you are the driver of the black Honda stream who got rear-ended or the owner of the car who got reversed into, contact me if you need my footage. (PM me or reply to this thread). I have video evidence of the car rear ending the stream thrice and reversing into the car behind him.
  5. Hi guys I just got a used 2007 307Cc. Just after collecting car and when parking at my place, the gear stuck at N after I reverse car. After that no matter what I do I can never get the gear back to other gears as it's just stuck there. Anyone has this problem ? Is this a serious issue ? Vicom checks seems ok with no issues on gearbox and Transmisson. Dealer is taking car back to workshop to check but this has been disheartening esp after I just collected the car.
  6. Crazy footage of a car reversing all the way to the intersection to skip the traffic jam. Very clever, but also very dangerous, I think. Anybody knows whether a similar thing has been done in Singapore? Best not to try. http://dai.ly/x41oe50
  7. Heated argument after child runs behind reversing taxi at Robertson Quay condo. SINGAPORE - Two men were involved in a heated argument with a taxi driver at Robertson Quay last Sunday. A Stomp reader who witnessed the incident told the citizen journalism website that the trio had been staring at each other before the argument broke out. The daughter of one of the men had earlier run behind the taxi as it was reversing out of an entrance of the Watermark condominium, but the cabby managed to brake in time. The Stomp contributor known only as Sarah said that she heard a loud commotion at about 12.45pm. She said: "The condo's security guard said the cabby was driving into one of the entrances of the condominium. The entrance to the block the cabby wanted to go to was not at this block, so the security guard redirected the cabby to another entrance. "The cabby reversed his taxi a little and at this point in time, the man's daughter (about 3 to 4 years old) suddenly dashed out and ran up behind the taxi, but the cabby managed to brake in time." Sarah added that the man was accompanied by another male friend and two other women who appeared to be their wives. She said that the men kept yelling at the cabby even after he got out of his vehicle to try and explain things. =================================== Don't know why parents can't keep their children in reign when near roads. Do they need something to happen before they wake up their idea?
  8. was in a multi storey carpark at shopping center over the weekend. because of the way the carpark is design, if you want to load and unload your shopping groceries, you have to drive to the end of the level to do so. then after you are done, you have to reverse from the end, bout 4 lots in order to make the right turn to get out of the level. i saw in my rearview mirror a red Lancer at the other end of the level, letting some passengers off. we are talking about at least 10 lots distance here. So i started to do my reverse. the next thing i know, he chiong down the lane and was right behind me, honking at me for reversing. i was like... duh? i was already reversing before your passengers got off your car. So i ended up have to move forward for the bugger to pass before i can do my reverse to get out of the level. i am sure reversing in a carpark to get out of the level is not unique to that one shopping center. if you see some one reversing in the distance, will you let the guy finish his reverse? or chiong in front and insist on right of way?
  9. Hi all, Isit ok to floor accelerator when reversing ? possible to hit 70kmh? any damage to gear box?
  10. I believe when we do reversing, most/all cars have stock rear view/wing/doorside mirrors that do not allow us to watch where the rear wheels go. This may be an oversight by the manufacturers. Some overcome this with extra mirrors/camera. However, unless we already have a need to reverse park, drive-in parking is easier and save fuel. It seems most people prefer to do reverse parking. More fun?

This joker have entered KPE by mistake and decided to reverse his car out from the tunnel. I have already make a complaint to LTA and EMAS and they will view the cam and forward to TP. Hope they can capture the incident. At that juncture, 3 cars including mine had to "siam" him. No brain driver, pls wait for your CNY ang pao from TP and the 6 demerit points.
  12. i think some of you guys experience this before. You're reversing into a perpendicular parking lot (R gear) with steering wheel turned, and if u engage the D gear to move forward, and R gear again to reverse to adjust the parking, there will be this spring-like knocking sound. any idea wat's that sound and whether it's damaging the gears etc?

  15. Driver says: Imagine my shock when I read in the papers how serious her injuries were... MY HEART SANK By Chong Shin Yen December 19, 2007 HE knocked down an elderly woman with his lorry, and its rear wheels ran over her legs. But Madam Neo Siew Eng, 68, was able to get up on her own. He then gave her $50 and left. The driver, Tan Boon Hoh, 43, did not know that Madam Neo had fractured a pelvic bone. She died three weeks later and her family blamed him for not helping her seek medical help immediately. Last Friday, Tan was fined $1,000 for causing grievous hurt by negligence. Before sentencing him, District Judge Hamidah Ibrahim said that there was no evidence to link Madam Neo's death directly to the accident. Tan, a bread delivery man, later told The New Paper that he was not being irresponsible when he allowed her to leave on her own. Said Tan: 'I had wanted to send her to hospital, but she looked perfectly fine, other than a few scratches on her arms, and she said there was no need to. 'She could also stand up on her own and was able to walk off after talking to me.' Madam Neo was on her way to the market to buy breakfast for her husband and family. After the accident, she hobbled in pain back to her Jurong East flat about 400m away. A neighbour who saw her outside her front door then called the police and ambulance. Madam Neo was discharged from hospital two days later but her condition later took a turn for the worse. She died of bronchopneumonia (severe infection of the lungs) on 28 Jun. Tan said he found out about her death only from the newspapers. The police also called him to inform him. REVERSING LORRY 'Imagine my shock when I read in the papers how serious her injuries were. My heart sank, I didn't expect things to take such a turn,' said Tan. 'I felt that my actions had caused someone her life - whether directly or indirectly - and that I should visit the family to apologise.' Tan said his manager advised him not to go and instead he went on Tan's behalf.' The court heard that Tan had been reversing his lorry along the carpark driveway of Block 238, Jurong East Street 21, around 7.30am on 8 Jun. Madam Neo was crossing behind his vehicle at that time but he did not see her because a box on the lorry blocked his view. When he looked into the rear mirror, he saw that someone had fallen to the ground. Tan got down to check on Madam Neo and gave her $50 before they left separately. When asked by the judge how fast his lorry was moving, Tan replied that it was very slow. He told the court: 'If not, she would not be able to get up and speak to me'. Tan, who did not have a lawyer, added that he had asked Madam Neo in Hokkien what she was doing behind his lorry. But Madam Neo replied that she 'didn't know'. Said Tan: 'So I told her it was better that she sought medical attention. It was then that she asked me for money. I gave her $50, which was all I had that day.' He added that after receiving the money, Madam Neo walked away on her own. And seeing that she was all right, he continued his bread deliveries. Tan went to make a police report later that day. He pleaded with the court not to disqualify his driving licence as it was his livelihood, and the judge agreed. Tan could have been jailed two years and fined. Speaking outside the courtroom, Tan said that he felt 'vindicated'. He said he was sorry that Madam Neo had died and that the accident had been weighing heavily on his mind. 'If I had meant to run away or act in an irresponsible way, I would not have gone to the police station after the accident,' he said. He has been working as a delivery driver for 15 years and earns $1,200 a month. He is the sole breadwinner of the family. He said: 'The licence is my rice bowl. I have only Primary 5 education and I really do not know what I else I can do besides being a driver.' Tan said that his wife, 34, suffers from heart disease and needs to go for an operation soon. He had earlier submitted her medical reports to the court. She is unable to work because of her health. The couple have three children aged between 3 and 11. 'Now that I'm able to keep my job, I'll try to put this matter behind me,' he said. In a report in The New Paper in July, Madam Neo's family had accused Tan of being 'irresponsible and heartless' for not seeking medical help for her. When contacted, her eldest daughter, housewife Tan Lay Tin, 51, said they were still upset with Tan. 'A life has been lost. We're still angry that he did not call for an ambulance immediately after the accident,' she said. 'My mother was so old and even if she had appeared fine, the least he could have done was to send her for a check-up.' CONSIDERATE But she agreed that it was possible that her mother had turned down Tan's offer to send her to the hospital. 'My mother was a kind old lady, maybe she did not want to trouble him,' she said. Madam Tan added that when her mother was hospitalised, she had urged her children not to look for the driver. She also told them not to 'bring charges against him' http://newpaper.asia1.com.sg/news/story/0,...,151039,00.html?

  17. Hi, posting on behalf of my colleague. His car got hit by a reversing car in car park but the other driver is now blaming my colleague and unwilling to settle the repair cost. Please see diagram. Red car (my colleague) stopped behind the blue car. Red car waited for blue car to clear, but then blue car engaged reverse gear. Red car tried to horn, but horn not working. Red car hoped that blue car would not reverse so much. But blue car continued to reverse and hit red car which is stationary. My colleague is now worried that he may lose his NCD by claiming insurance. This is because he thinks fault is with him for having a spoilt horn and did not react in time to reverse out of the way. Please advice. Thanks.

  20. Hi, Wondering if anyone knows or encountered an initial groaning sound for a second, coming from the wheels (front I think) or maybe just from underneath the car when I do a reverse. It only comes out when initially reversing, never when driving forward. I've tried reversing straight, with full lock, with half lock, any direction and the groaning sound always comes out. One thing I noticed is sometimes, after the first reverse, the sound does not come out. Also during rain or after having recently finished raining, there is no sound too. Could it be some part is dry and need lubricating? If so, which part and how do I lubricate it? Thanks.
  21. Sometimes when I brake while reversing, I hear a horrible screeching sound. Something is definately scratching something else. The funny thing is that I cannot replicate this problem when I am at BM. The last time, they cleaned the discs but I am sure that this problem has something to do with the fact that the car is parked with the back wheels higher than the front wheels. Call me crazy but BM has no idea. Anyone with a similar experience or any advice ? I am driving a Toyota Vios 1.5S which I took in March this year.
  22. Strange thing happened this morning... while reversing to park my car in office carpark, the car just died after a few metres... mine's a auto tranny car... had to off everything and pause for awhile before able to restart.. anyone have any idea what's wrong? I thought I smelt something burnt in the car intermittently, but not too sure... sigh Shag, could it be due to the leak we saw on Saturday?? Never happened before till this morning... hope nothing serious... otherwise auto tranny problem means $$$$
