We've seen the memes and watched the reels about how introverts feel so run down after going out with friends or socialising at an event that they must isolate themselves for the next two days (or is it two weeks?). I'm no psychologist or psychiatrist, but this is supposedly because introverts don't want to be around other people. Anecdotally, they do enjoy spending time with friends, but perhaps not with all of them at once. Since I enjoy the company of my friends, perhaps I am an extrovert. So, hanging out with them should be a piece of cake. Or so I thought. Photo: Vincenzo Landino, Unsplash New realisations Last month, one of my wife's best friends (let's call her K) flew into town for a conference, but before that event, she spent two days at our house. Though I don't know her as well as my better half does, we get along fine. I assumed that since the missus and I would be entertaining her, this would be a walk in the park. We picked up K from the airport on a Saturday afternoon and treated her to lunch in Jewel before heading home so we could get her settled. Later, we went to dinner in Jalan Besar. Since our guest had a long day, we headed back home right after, did a bit more catching up and turned in before midnight. The next day should have been easy. Since we all woke up late, we decided to have an early lunch before going to Gardens by the Bay to explore the 'Impressions of Monet' exhibition. Afterwards, we dropped K off at her hotel. 'Exhaustion' sets in My better half and I exhaled sighs of relief as we drove off. "I'm so tired!" she proclaimed. "I need to lie in bed for two hours!" I replied. And that's exactly what we did when we got back. I don't know if there's a name to this (is this even a defined condition?), but all those reels and memes about the 'social battery running low' could not have felt more real. Was it too much stimulation from the Sunday crowd? Was I just tired from the workweek? A bit of both? Whatever it was, this relatively simple hosting schedule was surprisingly taxing. I felt drained. At that point, I would have refused a coffee run. Even if it meant being able to ride my bike. Photo: Kinga Howard, Unsplash Maybe it's not overstimulation I thought I was tired from the crowds. Having to process all that visual and audio stimulation whilst avoiding bumping into tourists takes a lot of energy. Upon further pondering, I surmised that having to continuously carry a conversation is probably what did us in. Being mentally and emotionally present takes a toll. We didn't just sit around and stare at our phones; we conversed and reminisced. We were engaged. You get worn out when you dedicate so much of yourself. It's probably why a lot of folks today prefer the company of their devices to actual people. You can switch off your phone when you're tired of doomscrolling or when the battery runs out. But when you're in someone's company or keeping someone company, you can't just 'switch off' by standing up and leaving. Well, you could, but it would be incredibly rude. Photo: Shane, Unsplash Managing your 'mana' K is neither the first nor will she be the last houseguest. But now that we've realised how much 'mana' it takes to entertain someone and how long it takes to refill, we will have an even more relaxed plan next time. We can schedule longer periods of just hanging out at home instead of going out. And when we do bring our guest out, we will ensure it is someplace that isn't crowded or difficult to access. Meaningful conversations can only take place when there are fewer distractions around you. In such a setting, everyone is also more comfortable, and energy levels are better managed. I sound cold, talking about how I must consciously manage the time I spend with friends. Well, I'm no longer a teenager with boundless energy, able to survive on two hours' sleep and continue going for another day before crashing for 16 hours straight. I'm cognisant that like money, time and energy must be invested judiciously. Also, sleep debt is real. Accrue too much and it takes a long time to pay back. For me, a five-day workweek with less than seven hours of sleep daily requires two straight weeks of proper sleep to repay. Five nights of inadequate sleep demands 14 nights of good shut-eye. I might be wrong but that sounds like an 'interest rate' of 280%.

Hosay liao............ciggy going to increase price in MY........smoking at R&R tio orh gong RM250-RM500.........worse than speeding...... http://transport.asiaone.com/news/general/story/all-malaysian-highway-rest-stops-become-smoke-free-zones IPOH - Smokers will have even fewer places to light up soon. All rest and recreation (R&R) stops along highways are to be designated as "no-smoking" zones by year-end, with the coverage expanding to a radius of 3m around the covered areas of the facility. Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam, who announced this yesterday, said it would mean that eateries and even toilets at R&Rs would be smoke-free. He added that the ministry had set a target to lower the number of smokers in the country by 16 per cent because the Global Adult Tobacco Survey 2011 showed that 23.1 per cent or 4.7 million Malaysians were smokers. Vowing to expand "no-smoking" zones in the country, Dr Subramaniam said discussions had been held with the relevant agencies and all had agreed to gazetting R&Rs as "no-smoking" zones. "We want to implement this as soon as possible. "The smoke-free zones will cover a 3m radius within the area," he told reporters after launching the national-level "International No Tobacco Day" event at a hypermarket in Meru Raya here. Dr Subramaniam said that Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) would also gazette its sheltered walkways spanning 23km in the city centre as smoke-free zones. "The authorities will also be stepping up enforcement and monitoring these areas to deter people from smoking. "I know that enforcement will be a challenge as it covers a large area but it will be done. "It is only through strict enforcement that we can drive our message across," he said, adding that offenders could be fined between RM250 and RM500. The minister warned that those who failed to pay their compounds could be brought to court and fined a maximum of RM10,000 or face up to two years in prison if found guilty. Dr Subramaniam said the ministry had also beefed up enforcement against sales and procurement of illegal cigarettes. He added that the ministry wanted a 70 per cent tax imposed on cigarettes to deter the young from picking up the habit. - See more at: http://transport.asiaone.com/news/general/story/all-malaysian-highway-rest-stops-become-smoke-free-zones#sthash.eGTvQhAS.dpuf

Family together at home in girl's last days Mr Juraimy and Madam Raba'ah, holding the diary that their daughter Amy Nabel'la Juraimy, 13, kept. Stricken with bone cancer, Amy chose to go home and managed to spend quality time with her family in her last days. -- ST PHOTO: JASON QUAH TWO days into intensive care in National University Hospital, it was clear Amy Nabel'la Juraimy, 13, was not going to make it. She was dying of bone cancer. Her mother, Madam Raba'ah Abdul Ghani, 39, told her in tears that her doctors could not do anything more for her. Amy, struggling to breathe, said to her mother: 'But you always asked me to fight.' Her mother replied: 'Mummy will always fight with you.' That was when Amy asked to go home. The choice, made last month, was the right one. Her father Juraimy Difari, 39, said: 'Amy was very happy when she came home.' In the last week of her life, Amy asked for - and got - her favourite foods and soft drinks, which the hospital would not have served. More importantly, she spent quality time joking around and having meals with her parents and six siblings. A nurse from HCA Hospice Care made daily visits. Madam Raba'ah said: 'We wanted us all to be together, under one roof.' She recalled how it pained her then to leave Amy in the hospital when the time came daily for her to go home to her other children. 'When I came back, I saw her struggling to breathe. It made me very regretful that I didn't stay with her,' she said. Mr Juraimy said he had wanted to take his daughter home when she was diagnosed with end-stage bone cancer last July, 'but we didn't want Amy to think that we didn't love her'. 'We wanted to show her we were fighting with her.' And fight, they did. After the medical treatment failed, her parents spent money on health supplements and traditional remedies for a sliver of hope - not that there was much money to spare. Mr Juraimy, who earns about $850 a month as a cleaner, worked seven days a week, and rode a bicycle to save on bus fare. Thankfully, Amy's medical bills have been covered by the Children's Cancer Foundation. Amy had no illusions about her chances. Three days after she returned home, she called her parents to her side to give them each a traditional greeting in which one kisses the hand of an elder as a mark of respect. Kiss me on the cheek, she asked of her mother. She then placed her father's hand over her mother's and said: 'Take care of Mummy.' She made her family members promise they would not cry when the time came. The next morning, she told her father that she had seen men in white coming to carry her away. Amy was lucid, free of tubes that would have tethered her to life-support machines, and free of sedation. Her mother whispered: 'If you love me, go. Don't fight it.' Holding her parents' hands, Amy took three slow breaths and then a final one at 4am on a morning in March. Her family was quiet. No one sobbed. It was just the goodbye she had wanted. POON CHIAN HUI

of the people I have pissed off in this forum!!!.....please add your name here so I can apologize to you.... 1) Tiamno - for calling him an ass, he is not, he is just tiko 2) Throttle - for implying that he is haolian, he is not, he is just rich and capable As for RadX, actually he is a nice guy, he even PM me before offering me good advice on some issues but I think I had majorly pissed him off, so I hope by apologizing to him, we can let bygones be bygones and get along better in this forum. Of course, if what I did was unforgivable, I will also understand if some people still don't want to forgive me.

Well folks, just to narrate an incident involving an ugly motorist and his group of friends. (or cousins perhaps)... I was at Autobacs yesterday to change my horn. It was afternoon and pouring cats and dogs... Was smoking as this ugly incident happened. There was an old lady cleaner cleaning the racks at the carpark, near the entrance. This Colt Ralliart Turbo pulled in, splashing the puddle of water at the old lady drenching her completely. The driver didn't give 2 hoots and continued to park his car (revving it purposely, although it doesn't sound impressive honestly).. He alighted once his "supercar" is parked, giving the poor lady a sheepish and "I'm superior.. you should have gotten out of my way" look.. The worse part, his passengers (2 of them, one fat F*** and the other, a 4 eyed toad) eluded the same arrogance as they passed the old lady, murmuring something in their language which I didn't understand... They were also mimicking the old lady's weak attempts as she tried drying herself, while breaking into loud laughter amongst themselves.. I couldn't stand it so I went to the vending machine and bought a warm cup of coffee for the old lady (I mean, she's old, frail and pitiful.. my blood boiled as I thought... she could have been my mom... ). So I went about, looking for my horn.... When I finally decided on which to purchase, the sales assistance directed me to the cashier... the irritating trio was just queueing behind me... I ignored them.. As my turn approached, I paid for my buy and asked the cashier a few question (eg how long was the installation, whether they will have to remove my bumper, etc etc... ) The cashier didn't know and had to ask the mechanics. The trio became impatient and made loud remarks (again in their language) while gesturing rudely at me... Well to be honest, I didn't know what they were talking about, but it looked as if they were irritated as I was taking up their time, by asking about my own purchase...... Come on, I have every right to enquire about my purchase as I'm paying for it with my own money... Some ppl just think they're a cut above the rest - - - With no obvious reason to support this because 1) They don't look intelligent 2) They don't behave civilised 3) They don't look rich 4) They don't even look like professionals (PS: They're not foreigners by the way, when I mentioned I couldn't understand their language, its because I'm not their race... sorry, no pun intended...) Lastly and most importantly, they don;t even have a heart and basic respect for elderly folks.... Yes, I know you probably think your Colt turbo is a F1 car... but in reality, its not.... so pls don't have the ego of an F1 driver... and pls have a heart....

Had an unpleasant dining experience at the restaurant above. Booked a table and ordered the "famous" Roast suckling pig after seeing some good comments on the paper. When arrived, was recommended the set meal which also came with the Roast Pig so went along with it. When served, the roast pig was very dry and tasteless. It looked and tasted like it was reheated many many times over. Next came the most popular teochew Steam promfet, anticipation turned into disappointment because the fish wasn't fresh that spoilt the whole dish. After that, scallops with vegetables was a disaster again with scallops that were not fresh and soaked in salt water, making the dish so salty.....oh my god! Couldn't take it anymore, we asked for the captain to the table. When she arrived, she jus told us that because we were late (8pm instead of 730pm because wanted everyone to arrive and was looking through the menu), they had to reheat and so this is the result. As for the fish, she insist that it is fresh...so we suggested she try it but she refused and told us she can't do anything about it. We left the place without completing our dinner. No other explanations and apologies given...Toatal damage $570 for a horrible dinner. Will never go again.

The synthetic leather of my after market armrest started to peel. Thinking of giving it a rewrap with a genuine leather. Does anyone know where is a good & economic place to do it?

Office politics are everywhere. This is simply inevitable. Even switch job, definitely will bound to face the same situation again, maybe different scenario. Thus, always practise not mixing with the rest, however, trying my best to cooperate within my dept in terms of stock allocation the best I can. (maybe I'm not trying hard enough?...well, everyone eager to perform, so do I.) What's your view regards towards if you can't be the best then mix with the rest.

3 women in fatal pub brawl jailed By Elena Chong, Court Correspondent THREE women, who were involved in a fatal pub brawl at Clarke Quay with their boyfriends six months ago, were jailed on Tuesday. Mr Eugene Chua, the man the group set upon outside the Geographer's Bar on April 23, later died. Hostess Marliana Khamaruddin, 30, got the heaviest sentence of four years for causing grievous hurt to Mr Chua. The other two were each given 21/2 years for rioting. Marliana, Shariah Solahan, 22, a public relations manager, and waitress Nurashikin Mohamed Yasin, 24, pleaded guilty earlier. The group were so angry with Mr Chua's friend for grabbing the throat of Shariah earlier, they decided to take revenge. Mr Chua, 30, who worked as a manager at Que Pasa bar in Emerald Hill, died from a serious head injury two days later after he had been repeatedly punched and kicked. Ibrahim Abdul Rahman, 27, Marliana's boyfriend, and Alfe Rohan Bakri, 32, the boyfriend of Nurashikin, were jailed last month for grievously hurting the victim while part of the group. A sixth individual, Clarence Soh Keng Hian, 29, Shariah's boyfriend, is at large. Deputy Public Prosecutor Stella Tan told the court Mr Chua was with his friend, sales manager Ang Wee Hong, 31, in the area outside the bar's toilets when he accidentally bumped into Shariah's shoulder. All three were tipsy. During a dispute, Mr Chua pointed his middle finger at Shariah, who reacted angrily and moved nearer to him. Mr Ang grabbed her by the throat and Nurashikin quickly pulled his hand away. She punched him and was joined by Marliana who rained punches on Mr Ang's face. Marliana also kicked Mr Chua from behind and punched him on the face once. He fell but managed to get up. Both men were then escorted to another area by security staff. Meanwhile, Ibrahim, Alfe and Soh heard what had happened and were fuming. Soh suggested they find the two men to take revenge. The three men assaulted Mr Chua while the three women punched Mr Ang. While Mr Chua lay unconscious on the floor, Marliana walked to him and gave him two kicks - on the head and chest. http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest%2BNews/...ory_172057.html All becos of [inline middle.bmp] middle.bmp
