  1. Now I know why sometimes I have a sour smell from the air-con. I kept telling my gf it's jus some leaves stuck in the vents. omg. now i know. traumatised. What should i do with the body? I left it in a corner of the MSCP.
  2. is taking off my exhaust's resonator illegal in singapore?
  3. OK guys. You know how to do it already. So tell me what has been happening lately. Take your time and run the engine around for the next couple of days. Glad you all like the "induction piss".
  4. Hey all, Had the resonator removed from my Aveo today at the CCK meetup. It's a half hour job (if you have the right tools)... It's easy. You have to remove the 4 nuts that hold the panel down in the driver-side front wheel well / bumper. Careful to keep the nuts, and the 2 silver retaining tabs at the bumper (otherwise you won't be able to reattach the 2 9mm nuts. The resonator under the panelling is held down by 3 nuts. Undo those, yank the whole box out and wala!!! Yes.... you'll have to replace the panelling... The resonator is basically a plastic U-bend tube that has a large plastic chamber at the bottom of the U-bend. According to something i read a long time ago, the resonator's chamber size is "scientifically calculated" according to the size of the engine, filter element, etc to resonate (or cancel) out most of the induction sounds. Another function of it to to trap leaves!! OK some clarification, I've had an aftermarket filter in my car for some months already.. (thanks encik!!) and the sound is definately louder than the stock filter. Funny thing is... after driving with the resonator OFF today... I find that the sound has become softer!! In 2nd gear, climbing slope... I don't get the "I'm an Aveo trying to be a Porsche" growling sound.. something more mellow and refined... Some bros here report lower intake temps... I confirm next week :-) Also, a bit more power which, i like!! (coz the air doesn't have to go thru the U-bend...maybe) So the resonator is sitting at home now... maybe later I dismantle it and see if I can make some kind of CAI with the plastic fittings (and some tubing) to hook it up to the front grill or something... dunno whether got space or not?? Many many thanks to all the dudes and dudettes for their help, tools and support. So many ppl standing behind me when I was doing it... i feel so loved ... and one more tip hor... wear shorts and T-shirt, and prepare to sweat a bit! Thanks again bros!!!!
  5. After fumbling around for 30min, I removed the resonator. Sound levels are still bearable. Like as if the resonator is still there until you floor her and there is some induction noise. So in an essence, the filter box has become an SRI or Short Ram Intake. I also took a peak at the filter. It is dirty already at 10k. So I would say changes every 10k will do. SA didn't change the filter at my free 10k svcing. Guess I got to do it. Know of a place where I can buy the Kalos/Aveo filter?
  6. Before everyone starts taking out those Resonator box, read this links first. Its there for some reason and not just for sound. Its for performance too, taking it out will affect your low end. Just FYI: 1.http://planetsoarer.com/resonator/resonator.html 2.http://planetsoarer.com/resonator/ResonatorsAcoustic.htm
  7. Any review to present from bro who remove the resonator? is it more pick up speed and shiokness?
  8. Hi all. I'm new here and glad to have 'bumped' into this great forum. Just paid d/p for an Aveo Auto Sedan, standard, orange, 50988 w/o guaranteed coe. I read about the removal of the resonator in this forum but know nuts about it. What I do know is that it is supposed to dampen engine noise and like someone mentioned, to collect falling leaves (???) So, the question is, if this thing functions to dampen engine noise, why would folks in this forum have theirs removed??? Thanks!
  9. Hi all, Thanx to MadeD single handedly pulled out this extra organ from my Aveo, here are some initial observations after 1 tank: +ve 1. torque/horse powder/pick up... everything also went up up up. 2. now no need to press hard on accelerator liao. 3. nice~ engine sound especially right after starting the engine. Fierce... 4. no audible hooting sound as long as rpm never go beyond 3k. 5. because no need to push the car harder, fc actually went down slightly -ve 1. maybe because torque, etc, gone up, or maybe due to strong air sucking action, car actually vibrates more especially at higher speed 2. need to 'cham' brake from a longer distance and harder due to higher torque, etc. 3. subconsciously want to driver faster faster & faster. hmmmm, need more discipline on this. 4. don't know why but rpm actually went up. E.g. Used to be around 2.2k at 80km/hr but now already 2k at 70km/hr, 3k at 100km/hr. I thought rpm supposed to go down? Some leaves stuck in the air intake? Anymore to add from bros & sis without resonators?
  10. will there be any complications? more hot air from the engine? lost of pickup, performance and increase of fc ?
  11. I am driving a Hyundai Accent and i wish to remove the resonator and drive around qithout it. Will it do any harm to my car besides just sucking in hot air but the ait intake should be greater then before with resonator.
  12. Has anyone notice that the ES8 resonator box is really huge? So has anyone tried bypassing the resonator box so that air goes direct to the air filter box? I think if it is possible, it would improve the performance of the car greatly, what do you think?
  13. Hi all, tot of removing the resonator box in my mum's VIP. have heard that by removing it, the engine will sound louder at the same time produce better engine response. My question, does the gain really worth the extra noise produced? thx.
