  1. With the recent news articles that's been running for the past 2 months, there is even a term for it - The Great Resignation Wave 2022. And one large local company have taken notice. Sharing how such a company executed a brilliant money saving move to counter the resignation wave: Sent out email in mid Dec 2021 on the exact date for bonus full payout in XX Jan 2022. Just 1 week before XX Jan 2022 bonus payout, company issue an email to say bonus will be split into 2 parts. 1st part is given in XX Jan 2022 (no change), 2nd part will be given in 2nd week of Feb. Bonus letter (indicating the total bonus to be received) will also be withheld till AFTER (no date given) the 1st part of the bonus is given in XX Jan 2022 In the email, it is specifically highlighted that those who are on notice period before the payout of the 2nd part of the bonus, are not entitled to the 2nd part of the bonus. Primary reason for the delay in bonus is because they have yet to finalise the accounting with the group finance of the mother company (a large public listed conglomerate in Singapore). Simply brilliant move. This will totally derail plans for those who are planning to leave the company and help save the company tonnes of bonuses.

Photo: Kyodo Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is set to resign, national broadcaster NHK reported on Friday, adding that he wanted to avoid causing problems to government due to a worsening of his chronic health condition. Speculation about Abe’s health and tenure had risen after he made two visits to a hospital recently. He has battled the chronic disease ulcerative colitis for years. Questions about Abe’s health have been swirling since he made a previously unannounced visit to hospital for medical checks on August 17, and then returned for further checks a week later, on Monday. Abe, 65, ended his first term as prime minister after just a year in the job, in part due to crippling health problems. Even before the recent hospital visits, there had been reports claiming the prime minister was vomiting blood, as well as questions over his limited public appearances and decision to avoid holding a press conference to address criticism of his handling of the coronavirus.
  4. 3 gone in 3 years.............I know finance ppl have code of conduct........ something missing with the book???............. SMRT CFO resigns after eight months, last day Nov 9 SMRT Corp's group chief financial officer, Sam Ong Eng Keang, has resigned after eight months on the job and his last day will be Nov 9. The transport operator said in a release on Tuesday that Mr Ong, who joined SMRT on March 1, 2014, is leaving to "pursue philanthropic interests and business prospects". Pending the appointment of a new CFO to replace Mr Ong, the responsibilities of the CFO will be covered by Cindy Lau, its vice-president of group finance & shared services. Some analysts were surprised by Mr Ong's rather short stay. He joined SMRT from Singapore-listed waste water management firm Hyflux, where he was group senior executive vice-president and deputy CEO. SMRT said its CFO provides the overall leadership to the finance function of the group. The CFO is also expected to play a key role in developing, monitoring and evaluating overall corporate strategy with the chief executive officer and leaders of business units with emphasis on bottomline performance, working capital and enhancing shareholder value. "This position provides useful financial insights to help make better decisions about formulating and executing strategy. Major responsibilities include corporate governance, accounting, treasury, investments and financial reporting,'' SMRT said. An analyst said while the sudden departure of the CFO would be taken as a red flag for most companies, "we believe this should be an exception due to SMRT's history of strong corporate governance and majority ownership by Temasek". Furthermore, SMRT had just reported a stellar set of Q2 2015 results indicating a strong earnings recovery on the back of higher fares, lower costs and operating efficiencies. Net profit spiked up 75.5 per cent to S$25.3 million for the second quarter ended Sept 30 on improved performance in its train and bus operations, as well as higher profitability from its taxi, rental and advertising businesses. Revenue was 6.0 per cent higher at S$314.0 million compared to the same period a year ago. Looking ahead, SMRT said the fare business environment will continue to be challenging owing to heightened operational demands on service and capacity. http://www.businesstimes.com.sg/companies-markets/smrt-cfo-resigns-after-eight-months-last-day-nov-9
  5. Dear forumers, I am planning to resign from my current company soon. I intend to offset my earned leave (30 days) to offset against my notice period of one month. This is allowed under MOM's rules; however, I don't get paid for my leave, and I can immediately start work with my new employer on the next day. I have sought advice from many friends; some say serve your notice, some say use your leave to offset. I have a very tense relationship with my manager and I don't wish to serve the notice period; indirectly, by using my leave to offset, I am working for the company for free for one month, by not cashing in my leave if I serve the notice period. What would you do? Thanks.

By the eminent and erudite Vincent Wijeysingha. It's time for us to take a deep and closer look at ourselves. https://www.facebook.com/notes/vincent-wije...517597378258190 The government has acted in our name as is its duty. It purged an industrial action and returned the nation to business as usual. The bus drivers from SMRT recklessly involved themselves in an illegal strike after refusing to bring their grievances to management or their trade union or seek the assistance of the Manpower Ministry. Twenty-nine have been deported, one hundred and fifty more issued a police warning and the five ringleaders will be tried. Industrial harmony has been restored, the tripartite relationship upheld, and public disorder averted. As fortunate citizens of this prosperous and stable nation, we can heave a sigh of relief. Those refractory foreigners got what they deserved. How dare they come to our land - which our government built from a fishing village - and demand such indulgences as suitable accommodation and an equal wage. Nobody promised them any of that: if they aren
  9. As above. My opinion: Rafa have to resign(not sack). I had enough of his excuses liao.....even the patient kop fan start to booed the team after the Reading match. Yes player should bear the responsibility too BUT he is the manager yet cant turn thing around at bad time. He cant motivate or boost the player morale. I didnt hate him just he have shown the best he can bring Liverpool to - 2nd place in BPL. He is good manager but not the manager can end Liverpool title drought. Kenny the king is back, he can take charge till end of the season at least. Btw I am Liverpool fan. YNWA(You will never WAIT alone ) Please state your view & your supported team if you want to comment. Tks

  11. Foreign minister quits over security gaffe Maxime Bernier arrives to be sworn in as Canada's new Foreign Minister in August 2007, accompanied by Julie Couillard. Photo: AP May 27, 2008 - 11:09AM Canadian Foreign Minister Maxime Bernier has resigned after it emerged he had left classified documents in the apartment of a former girlfriend with suspected ties to organised crime. "Minister Bernier has learned and informed me that he left classified government documents in a non-secure location. This is a serious error. [He] has accepted his responsibilities in offering to resign," Prime Minister Stephen Harper said. Mr Bernier, 45, had been under increasing pressure to quit amid revelations about the personal life of Julie Couillard, the former girlfriend who has been linked to the Hells Angels. An authoritative political source said on condition of anonymity that Mr Bernier had left the the documents in Ms Couillard's apartment. An interview with her was set to be shown on Canadian television. Mr Bernier, who took over the job last August, had also been under fire for a series of recent gaffes. Most notably, he embarrassed Ottawa in April by openly suggesting that Afghan President Hamid Karzai replace the Governor of Kandahar province. Canada has 2500 troops based in the southern Afghan city. Mr Bernier was the first minister to quit the cabinet under a cloud since the Conservatives won power in January 2006. Mr Harper said Trade Minister David Emerson would take over as foreign minister on a temporary basis. A grim-faced Mr Harper, speaking just hours before departing on an official visit to Europe, insisted Mr Bernier's resignation had nothing to do with the media furore over his relationship with Ms Couillard. "This is about one thing and that is a failure to uphold expected standards on government documents. It is a very serious mistake, regardless of who the minister is, regardless of personal life," he said. Ms Couillard, 38, accompanied Mr Bernier at his swearing-in as foreign minister in 2007, and while they dated she was officially designated as Mr Bernier's "spouse" so she could travel with him on government business. The pair broke up some months ago, but were said to have dined with Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day and his wife at an Ottawa restaurant as recently as late March. According to reports, Mr Bernier did not know about her past until it was reported by the media. Mr Bernier's resignation spectacularly ends the political career of a man who some believed could eventually challenge for the position of prime minister. It also removes a foreign minister who looked out of his depth from the start. Mr Bernier had been industry minister when Mr Harper asked him to take over at foreign affairs and sell the Afghan mission to the politically influential French-speaking province of Quebec, where anti-war sentiment is traditionally high. The new minister made precisely one speech in Quebec on the mission and then disappeared from view on the file, only really regaining the public spotlight when details of his ties to Ms Couillard came to light. All three opposition parties blasted Mr Harper for not providing details on the documents. "Obviously Mr Bernier has been suffering from an accumulation of blunders over the past number of weeks. The issue has now come to a breaking point," senior Liberal MP Ralph Goodale told reporters. "The Prime Minister has a lot of explaining to do." http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2008/05/27/1211653992067.html no nid cook simi excuse abt apex of responsibility.
