Looking back, many things happened this year, a mix of good and bad events for me. Starting with the bad one first, this is the first time I lost count of the number of funeral I have attended this year, close to 10, if not more. Some gone just so suddenly (diagnosed with final stage cancer, asthma leading to brain-dead, fallen into water), leaving behind their loved one in shock and lost. Imagine in one case, a family photo (a grand one with ~50 pax) suddenly short of 3 members in a span of 4 months time… sigh And after so many years of constant reminders, my mum still got scammed by those door-to-door sales person, as that “auntie” is very willing to lend her a listening ear, but little did she know that it is part of scammer’s tactics to fish info from her, making her walk into their trap unknowingly. Lucky for us, we manage to recover the full sum eventually (with police report made), but not without a lot of leg work, data collection and banging tables (CASE inclusive)… Lessons learned: Spend more time with your family, be patient with old folks especially, listen to their grumble/complaint with an open mind, as you will never know what is in their mind if they don’t speak out (whether we can solve their problem is a separate matter). Try to put ourselves in their perspective when suggesting solutions, instead of insisting we are right / they are wrong! I know saying is easier than done, but I don’t want to have any regret on the day they are gone… … OK, now on the better part, I managed to finally bring my family for a trip in Europe, something that I have wanted to do so many years back, but financially challenged (it is not just about affordability for me). I am not born with silver spoon, every cent were hard earned, and the more I have to plan my spending carefully, so that I would still have enough for rainy days and retirement. And more importantly, I don’t want to let my young ones to take things for granted. A small surprise for me after the trip when my son came to me, saying: “Daddy, we have spent so much recently, do you still have enough saving?” With this simple statement, I know my preaching (on financial prudent) has been effective… Work wise, my willingness to take new challenges (different job function) has landed me with a new role and exposure. Although no promotion or increment, but I am happy with what I am doing (including the strong support from my superior), and I have also picked up a new skill, why not? Lessons learned: Do not hesitate to try out new things, you have nothing to lose actually. Knowledge and experience will follow you for life, unless you choose to “abandon” them. OK, that all for me. What about yours? BTW, an early season greeting. Wish all of you and your loved one a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Kratoschumacher Mar 14 2012, 10:40 AM Post #1 Hi everyone, I have a very exciting announcement this morning. As you might be aware sometime last month we announced the retirement of a couple of moderators. Once again we sincerely thank them for their contribution and hope they will continue on as members. Now though, we have 5 new moderators that will be taking over the duties and they are (...drum roll...) - RadX - Mazdaowner - Donut - nf0rc3r - Kratoschumacher So there you go, your new moderators and hopefully all of you at MCF will provide them with your full support. Enjoy the rest of the week, and keep those posts coming in! Cheers! 360 degree reflection Hi, there are some points I have issue with the mods and would like clarification especially when new MODs claim, this is a new chapter with everybody following the rules and there would be close monitoring 1. leopard difficult to change their spots which was constantly brought up by mods about some Mcforumers but that said, some MODS are similar like the leopards they call others 2. being a MOD, calls for whiter than white, if NOT stop bashing other forums like hardwarezone and sammy, basically you are NO better 3. Kratoschumacher - keep those posts coming in! So what is the problem when I start a different thread for different topics that appear to be in a form of a joke, so what about bandwidth, there are many more hopeless threads worse than the one's i started subsequently, it was renamed and at least two threads were merged my simple posting within the thread of "Hi Sabbie" was met with an unbecoming remark by a MOD to subjectively threatened a forumer by sending them to netherworld and screaming for sex if you want to warn me, if warranted warn me properly, I dont take this kind of Shxt from a MOD but from another forumer it may be different I then explain, and seek an apology especially if indeed I did nothing wrong, the thread which was renamed by MOD to Jokes of SCB11980 was deleted subsequently what crap, what standards are you MODs talking about MODS, if you want to be different and be class upper than the other forums that you look down upon, then please held yourself to similar standards that you impose onto other forumers, once you become a MOD, you are public property MODS give updates on forumers, why not start a thread on updates on MODs PS: I think the MODS as a team, I dont want to pick on any particular one, it doesnt matter who but MODS should hold the same standard as that required of forumers by the MODS themselves, we all make mistakes but some MODS are very unforgiving and if so these same MODS should live by their own standards too I am really pissed, this is a real betrayed to me, all the talk about seeking everybody's help to conform, putting past behind and starting a new and making this forum better than other forums, it seems it is all a big bad joke ok got this off my chest

Not for voters to 'repent', but losing party to reflect Letter from Chang Jun Biao 06:35 PM May 01, 2011 I am compelled to write in response to Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew's recent comment that in the event the People's Action Party loses Aljunied GRC, voters there would have five years to live and repent. I see that as a discredit to our ability as voters to make an informed and rational choice. This election is meant for Singaporeans to choose and elect their leaders for the next five years, possibly longer. I'm 30 years old, and I consider myself lucky that GE2011 represents the chance to vote for the second time in my life - knowing that many of my fellow Singaporeans, some older than me, are going to the polls for the very first time. I am also confident that like me, many of them are taking this GE very seriously and by the time Polling Day comes around, would have given sufficient thought to who we would like to represent our interests not just at constituency but national level as well. Should the ruling party lose their seats at Aljunied GRC, or any other constituency for that matter, the five years that follow are not for the respective constituents to "live and repent" - but it should be a time for the PAP to reflect on why it has fallen short of people's expectations and failed to win their support. It should also think about how it can work toward regaining that support when the next election comes round. And when it does, we as responsible voters would definitely lend a listening ear to give them a fair hearing and assessment, before once again casting our sacred votes. http://www.todayonline.com/SingaporeVotes/...arty-to-reflect

Gosh, it's been ages since I last started a thread in this forum, but the events of late that I've been observing has led me to have decent list of items that are open for discussion. In this series, I'd like all drivers to do a little self-reflection on some of the habits that we are guilty of at times. [ol] [*]Road Hogging Either drivers are not aware that they are holding up Lane One or that they are just plain selfish and want to hold eg. 80kmh on a 90kmh road. [*]No Signalling When Changing Lanes / Turning This can be very dangerous for the drivers behind who will not aware of the intentions of the driver in front or irratating to those waiting at traffic junctions waiting to go straight, but there is a car who wants to turn right but does not have the signal light switched on. Trying to conserve battery power here [*]Parking Along Double-Yellow Lines Where there is just a two lane road and people choose to park along the side to go have their meals. Along Choa Chu Kang North 7, there is a coffeeshop where even gigantic trucks park to have their meals at Block 678A. There are kids crossing that road and sometimes, the trucks just turn out. There was once when a truck almost hit a kid. And that form of parking along the two lane road also results in traffic congestion during peak hours. [*]Lorry Racer I understand that you might be in a rush at times, but you don't have to use your bulk to muscle cars out of their lanes or force them to slow down just so that you can cut into the lane. [*]Lack of Lane Discipline (especially when turning) I find that a lot of drivers should realise that when the rightmost vehicle turns right at a junction, that they should stick to Lane One, and similarly for those on Lane Two turning right, should also adhere to Lane Two. Too many near misses already. Eg. At Potong Pasir, turning right towards Bendemeer Road[/ol]
