http://www.dw.com/en/german-prosecutors-raid-facilities-of-carmaker-audi/a-42464733 Prosecutors and police officers have extended their raids on Audi facilities in the German cities of Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm. The carmaker is suspected of having manipulated more cars than hitherto acknowledged. Munich prosecutors and police officers from the southern German states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg on Tuesday searched a number of Audi offices in Ingolstadt, as well as the carmaker's production facility in Neckarsulm, the Süddeutsche Zeitung daily reported. It said a total of 18 prosecutors and an unspecified number of police participated in the raids. Audi, one of Volkswagen's 12 brands, confirmed the searches, saying it was fully cooperating with the prosecutors. The report said the raids were carried out because Audi was believed to have manipulated the emissions levels in more than 200,000 cars for both the European and US markets. Audi stands accused of switching off software that controls waste gas purification systems while the cars were on the road. Large-scale manipulation By contrast, the software was switched on when cars were tested in the lab. The first raids on Audi took place in March 2017 when prosecutors looked into allegations that the company had rigged emissions levels in 80,000 cars for the US market. Its parent company, Volkswagen, had admitted that Audi had participated in cheating efforts. Prior to Tuesday's raids, prosecutors had searched the homes of six current or former Audi engineers responsible for engine technology.

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-202_162-573654...-dane-hostages/ (CBS/AP) MOGADISHU, Somalia - U.S. military forces flew in helicopters under the cover of darkness on a raid into Somalia early Wednesday and freed an American and a Dane held hostage, Western officials said. Pirates reported a gun battle with several casualties. The Danish Refugee Council confirmed that the two aid workers, American Jessica Buchanan and Dane Poul Hagan Thisted, were freed "during an operation in Somalia." Buchanan and Thisted had been working with a de-mining unit of the Danish Refugee Council when they were kidnapped in Somalia in October. An official told The Associated Press that the raid was carried out by U.S. military forces. A second official said the helicopters and the hostages landed at a U.S. base in the tiny East African nation of Djibouti after the raid. Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the information had not been released publicly. According to NBC News, it was two helicopters carrying Navy SEAL teams which carried out the operation. Sources tell NBC there was a firefight with the armed kidnappers as the SEALs approached their compound, resulting in the deaths of multiple suspects, but no U.S. or hostage injuries. Various reports on the Internet identified Buchanan as a 32-year-old former fourth-grade teacher from the Arlington, Virginia area. (Credit: CBS/AP) Maj. Kelly Cahalan, a military spokeswoman at U.S. Africa Command in Stuttgart, Germany, said she had no information on the reported raid. A spokeswoman at the Pentagon had no immediate comment. The Danish Refugee Council said both freed hostages are unharmed "and at a safe location." A pirate who gave his name as Bilal Hussein said he had spoken to pirates at the scene of the raid and they reported that nine pirates had been killed. A second pirate who gave his name as Ahmed Hashi said two helicopters attacked at about 2 a.m. at the site where the hostages were being held about 12 miles north of the Somali town of Adow. The Danish Refugee Council had earlier enlisted traditional Somali elders and members of civil society to seek the release of the two hostages.

Was listening to morning radio about new ideas (or old ones to be brought back) for our ND parade... 46yrs of 'same, same' is quite enough, and why not have something more relevant and exciting, reflecting what actually happens on the ground, good or bad, so that we know what to treasure and to change, for the better? 1. Some say all VIPs should wear same red/white instead of party colours. Yes n No. Diversity in colours show we can be different (idealogy-wise) but strife for the same goals for SGP. Blanket 'same-ness' shows superficiality. Better to be a realist and face the differences and challenges. 2. As (1) maybe too serious, now we take it little light-hearted: Pay some respect to the peasants, let them be represented in a contigent or two. What to wear and parade, ideas needed 3. Instead of Leopard, Apachie, F18 etc, lets get few WRXs (red/blue lights on top) to do stunts, drifts.... 4. Lets get the TP bikes wheelie.... 5. Show some uniqueness of SGP: cover the ground with tissue paper packs, symbolising we as one people, is chopping a place in history 6. 100 pax contigent stomping feet together 7. Have a similar dig on the alternative parties also, just to balance things a little (ideas?) 8. 9.

This type of drugs(ICE) are giving drug enforcement agencies around the world headaches as it can be manufactured in your very own kitchen but it can also be deadly with the toxic fumes & also may explode with just a drop of sweat. The addicts are not only limited to lowly paid workers but also lawyers, business owners & doctors. It is extremely addictive which eventually destroy families & careers like the one below. This is what i can summarize after watching Discovery channel. I'm posting this as Singapore also has this problem & do watch out for your friends or children. Former NUS don arrested in drug raid A former NUS real estate Associate Professor was among those arrested for drug possession during a Central Narcotics Bureau raid. The raid in the Lavender Street area took place last December on 16th December 2010. 54-year-old Harold Tan was believed to have been found with several drugs, including 'ice'. Tan is undergoing treatment and rehabilitation in a drug rehabilitation centre. According to a personal profile of him on the web, Tan taught Real Estate Development and Finance and has 26 years experience. He resigned last November. He was also a consultant who oversaw property developments in China, Malaysia and Singapore. The profile listed Tan as a Public Service Commission Local Merit Scholar and Jurong Town Corporation Overseas Merit Scholar. - By Dylan Tan

April 25, 2008 3 Sim Lim computer shops raided Counterfeit software valued at $65,000 seized, pirates may face legal action By Chua Hian Hou THREE computer retailers in the popular Sim Lim Square high-tech marketplace were raided on Thursday on suspicion of selling computers with pirated software. The bust yielded more than 300 copies of high-end counterfeit Microsoft software including XP Professional and Office Professional 2003 with a street value of $65,000, said Microsoft. The raid was carried out by the Criminal Investigation Department's Intellectual Property Rights Branch, as well as representatives from Microsoft and its law firm Lee & Lee. Microsoft's lawyers are currently reviewing the evidence collected, and are expected to apply to the Courts next week for a fiat. If successful, the move would give the tech giant permission to prosecute the alleged pirates. Another 50 Microsoft 'certificate of authenticity' stickers, which are also believed to be fakes, were seized. These stickers are typically stuck onto new computers as proof that the machines are running original software. Last November, the Straits Times reported that some dishonest computer system-builders were working with pirate syndicates to hoodwink consumers into buying high-end counterfeit software. The programmes are so good that they are practically indistinguishable from the originals.
