Hi fellow MCF-ers, Im going to commit to purchase of a 2nd hand car for my mum so i would like to know the procedures to it. First time buying a car without a loan so i would like to know the procedures for this. 1. Sign S&P with buyer after AAS Checks if car is ok 2. I will settle insurance myself with my own agent 3. He has outstanding loan with Maybank, so whats the procedure like? My agent told me, i will need to go down with him to Maybank to fully settle the loan on the spot? Whats the guarantee to me? What if i help him settle and he suddenly change face? say no deal etc? 4. After loan settlement, we have to go down to LTA to do transfer? what documents are needed? Certainly LTA will need bank documents to say that loan has been fully settled. Thanks alot! Rgds, Ray

Hi bros and sis. Not sure if my question has been raised before but couldn't find it. i'm considering importing a vehicle(2nd hand rare gem) let say from UK which is also right hand drive like us do i buy a new COE and register it new even the car is say 2002 car. What are the calculation of tax do i have to pay to whichever department be it to custom LTA etc. And the cost of the car shipping to our island. Whatever i have to pay and do. Not very sure about the procedures of it and like to hear from gurus here. I know going to a P.I or car dealers will solve the problem but i would prefer to do it my own to save on the dealers fee which it wouldnt come down cheap. overall the price has to be right, the govt tax mustn't be that high and has to be reasonable. Looking forward to hear from you guys

I've been driving for 10+ years and still hold a valid Australian licence but I have been in SG for over 12 months now so I can't go for the conversion. Question is, what do I now need to do? I understand I need the Basic Theory Test and then can I apply immediately for the driving test? I don't need any lessons, just need a car on the test day itself, are there individuals or companies who rent cars out just for testing? Any help much appreciated. Thanks!

Thinking of getting the 318 cabrio by self import. Do you guys know how to ask for a quote from BMW Germany? Was previously considering MX5 but I would like to open up my options and hence I'm researching. Also, are there any reliable workshops for servicing and maintenance cos I reckon PML won't service my car if its self imported. Thanks brothers!

Check this auto detailing site out.. http://www.geocities.com/shanninic/Detailing_Pics.html A summary of below article.. Wash, clay, polish, sealant, glaze, wax. To begin, plan on washing or quick detailing your car weekly. You must begin with a squeaky clean car! The longer road debris and dirt (tar, bugs, bird droppings, etc) is allowed to remain on the paint, the more damage it does and the harder it is to remove. When your car has acheived the six requirements above, the contaminants are actually easier to remove! Next, all surface contaminants need to be removed - just waxing over them will not give you a perfect shine, and your paint will be damaged in the long run. Bird droppings are among the wors culprits - if left on the paint they will etch into it and leave a permanent stain. We remove contaminants by using tar remover, and also by claying the car to remove even unseen contaminants, which will restore a wonderful smooth feel to the paint. Following this step, polishing is necessary to remove surface scratches. Micro-scratching and swirls which cannot be felt with a fingernail, along with water spots, can all be removed or reduced with polishing. This is the step where the shine really begins!! After polishing, the paint must be protected so that it is sealed from the elements. This used to be accomplished only with waxes, which give a deep shine, but wear away quickly. Now, we have acrylic plymer sealants that will last much longer - even up to 6 months under the right conditions. These sealants also increase the shine on your car. Glazes come next. These are products that are a combination of silicones and carnauba waxes. These are used to "fill" any swirl marks that may be left on your car after polishing. Wax-based glazes only last a matter of days before wearing away, and swirls reappearing. Polymer Glazes, on the other hand, will last for months and can even be layered over time (if a carnauba topper is not used). With the remaining swirl marks filled on your car, your shine is brighter than ever. Finally, although synthetic sealants and glazes give super shine, warmth and depth of color is accomplished by topping with a pure carnauba wax. Carnauba waxes must be reapplied about every 4-6 weeks, as they are a natural product and wear away quickly.
