was at SAFRA Toa Payoh couple of days ago and looking at the old photos on the wall. Chanced upon this photo that i realised the old NSmen actually had pirorities for HDB flats.... Then why this privilege was taken away for the later (present) generation? I rem in one of the suggestions posted by angry citizens calling for NSmen to be given pirorty for HDB flat selection. This is nothing new!! They did had this scheme before in 1974, and taken away for whatever reason!!!!

Following 3 posts are mine, started in another forum, but relevant here too. Ridiculous (?reckless?) driver ask for special privileges in Driver's Improvement Point System (DIPs). Already he is fortunate that the TP will reduce his demerit points to zero in lieu of a clean driving record for 12 months, and suspension ONLY if he receives not less than 24 points in 24 months (non-probationary drivers). E.g. If Mr Chan Ban Choon gets 18 pts (e.g. Exceeding speed limit for road/ vehicle by more than 50 km/h up to 60km/h) on 01June2010, but has a clean driving record up till 01June2011, Mr Chan would be free to commit another 18point traffic violation on 02June2011 (sum total of 36points in 1yr and 1day) without breaking the suspension threshold of 24 demerit points in 24 months. Yet this is still not lenient enough for Mr Chan Ban Choon who thinks that 3 months is enough for him to "reflect on the traffic offence committed". May I kindly suggest that specially for Mr Chan Ban Choon, the TP should IMPOSE a suspension threshold of 3 demerit points every 3 months, and the moment Mr Chan hits 3 demerit points, Mr Chan's license is IMMEDIATELY suspended/ revoked (a special 3 monthly purging of demerit points not withstanding). (BTW, there are no demerit point offences attracting lesser than 3 demerit points) If Mr Chan is unable to operate his motor vehicle on roads safely and without the committal of traffic offences totaling 24 points in 24 months, despite the generous offer of a pristine record for 12 months of safe driving, than Mr Chan had better considering either public transport or the use of a bicycle as part of his work commute. Bankruptcy orders annulled against three former NKF directors Posted: 28 February 2012 1350 hrs SINGAPORE: Three former directors of the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) had their bankruptcy orders annulled after their creditors accepted a debt settlement proposal. The three - Matilda Chua, Richard Yong and Loo Say San - had been accused of abusing their powers, including using NKF funds abroad. NKF had sued the three and filed bankruptcy claims when they failed to pay up. Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Law, Sim Ann, said the three directors were declared bankrupts in May 2007, and granted certificates of annulment in December 2011. She was responding to a question from Non-Constituency MP, Lina Chiam, who asked how bankruptcy laws had been applied in the case. Sim Ann said: "The Official Assignee had completed the administration of their bankruptcy estates and realised all their available assets for the benefit of the creditors. A debt settlement proposal was put up to the creditors for their consideration. This was accepted by creditors." Figures of the number of people discharged from bankruptcy were also released in Parliament on Tuesday. In the last two years, some 3,600 people were discharged from bankruptcy and 274 debtors placed on the Debt Repayment Scheme. Of these 274 debtors, seven have completed the scheme and 29 fell out as they did not follow the repayment plan. The scheme was introduced in 2009 to allow debtors with regular incomes and debts not exceeding S$100,000 to avoid bankruptcy by paying off all or some of their debts through a repayment plan.
