This is an old case. Didn't know the outcome is so screwed up. A Lamborghini and a taxi crashed at Lau Pa Sat earlier this year, causing a pregnant woman to be trapped in the cab for an hour. After the accident, the woman gave birth to a premature baby and is now paralysed. At around midnight on April 1, a silver Lamborghini collided with a taxi at the junction of Shenton Way and Cross Street. A pregnant woman was trapped in the rear passenger seat, and it took SCDF personnel about an hour to free her. STOMPer Kelvin witnessed the rescue operation and said the taxi had been hit from behind as it was turning left. According to a New Paper report, the impact of the crash was so great that the Lamborghini's bonnet was crushed. The then eight months pregnant woman, who wants only to be known as Madam Ng, complained of pain in her spine as rescuers worked to free her from the taxi. She had to undergo an emergency caesarean section to deliver her baby when she arrived at Singapore General Hospital. Both mother and child survived, but Madam Ng was paralysed from the shoulders down. Her husband says that despite everything, the family is thankful that mother and child survived the accident, and they are also grateful to the SCDF, emergency response staff and doctors. STOMPer bee was saddened by the news and has this to say: "Can you imagine what Madam Ng must be going through? She was probably looking forward to the birth of her child, when this terrible accident happened. "Now, she has a newborn son, and she can't even hold him. It must be so heartbreaking. "And all drivers out there take note; please drive carefully and spare a thought for others, even if you don't treasure your own life."

He had sex with his 14-year-old girlfriend, got her pregnant and was jailed for four weeks when he could not pay his fine. But within a month of getting out of jail, he got the same girl pregnant again. Now 16, she has two sons by him and her family is helping her raise them. The youth, now 22 and a full-time national serviceman, was sentenced to four months' jail on Monday for his second offence of having sex with a minor. He cannot be named to protect the girl's identity. The court heard that they met in 2009, when he was 20 and she was 14. They had sex and she became pregnant. She gave birth to a baby boy in December 2010, when she was 15. He was fined $4,000 for having sex with her, and another similar charge was taken into consideration. He could not pay the fine, so he went to jail. After he was released from prison in February last year, he contacted the girl. The court heard that they were still in a relationship then. Within that month, he took the girl to his Yishun flat when no one was home and they had sex. The girl became pregnant again and in November last year, gave birth to their second baby. http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_761201.html

ST Forum Jun 21, 2011 Pregnant woman's tale of neglect AFTER settling our bill at the NYDC outlet in Tampines, I was leaving the restaurant with my husband around 7pm last Saturday when the two of us slipped and fell over the step at the entrance. There was a male waiter who was standing at the counter facing the entrance when the incident happened. On seeing us fall, he just stood there and offered no assistance - not even a word of concern even though the two of us were in pain. It is a critical situation when a pregnant woman falls as there are two lives involved. Yet the restaurant staff behaved like nothing had happened. With some assistance - none though from the staff - I was rushed to the nearest clinic and referred to KK Women's and Children's Hospital where I was immediately put under observation as the doctors were very worried about my condition and the baby's well-being. I was also given a few days of medical leave. I am appalled by the restaurant staff's attitude in such a situation. Pok Hui Kiang (Madam)

By Chong Shin Yen HE SLAPPED her so hard that three hours later the redness on her face had not subsided and three distinct finger marks could be seen. Before he hit her, cabby Ang Kim Chui, 59, had shouted at her: "Don't think (that) because you are a woman, I wouldn't hit you." Madam Ng Sie Hwee, 33, a businesswoman, was three months' pregnant at that time. She suffered a miscarriage three days after the road rage incident. Madam Ng told The New Paper after the sentencing: "The doctor told me the first trimester can be pretty unstable and (the miscarriage) might not have been caused by that incident. "But the psychological pressure I felt then might have contributed to it." Ang was sentenced to six weeks' jail after a trial. He is appealing against his sentence. The court heard that Madam Ng had driven her Volvo out of a Toa Payoh Central carpark on April 9, 2008 at about 4.20pm. She was about to turn into the main road when Ang's taxi suddenly swerved into her lane from the right. Meanwhile, the traffic lights farther up the main road had turned red and the vehicles in front of Ang's taxi had stopped. He ended in an awkward spot, with his taxi straddling diagonally across two lanes. Scared of cabby Ang then looked towards Madam Ng and pointed his middle finger at her. Madam Ng could not hear what Ang was saying but she could see that he was talking and gesturing at her, as if scolding her. Madam Ng's mother and her 18-month-old son, who were also in the car, were seated in the rear. When the traffic lights turned green and Ang was able to move his taxi, he deliberately drove very slowly, forcing Madam Ng, who was behind him, to also drive at a slow speed. He then suddenly stopped his taxi, alighted and went up to Madam Ng's car. As he 'looked rather antagonistic', Madam Ng quickly locked the car doors. Ang stood beside her door and accused her of colliding into his taxi. He wanted her to alight. Madam Ng was afraid to do so. But Ang was persistent and after a while, she got out. When Madam Ng examined both cars but found no damage. She was sure that she had not collided into the taxi but Ang insisted that she did. He kept asking her what she was going to do about it. Both could not reach a consensus and Madam Ng asked Ang to leave. That was when he shouted at her and slapped her on the right side of her face. Upset and scared, Madam Ng began to cry. She felt pain on her face and jaw line. She said she would call the police and told Ang not to leave. But Ang sneered at her and said that he was not afraid. He added that no one would believe her account before heading towards his taxi. Seeing that Ang was about to leave, Madam Ng's mother, Madam Leow Boon Tee, 61, ran towards him. She shouted at him and pulled at his sleeve to stop him from leaving. Madam Leow was carrying her grandson in her arms. Ang threatened the elderly woman, saying that he had 'something in his car' that he could hit her with. On hearing that, Madam Ng quickly pulled her mother away. Meanwhile, a crowd had gathered and some passers-by also told Ang not to leave the scene. >> ASIAONE / MOTORING / DRIVERS / OTHERS / STORY Doctor's testimony Ang stood by the road while Madam Ng called the police. But he left before they arrived. Madam Ng went to Mount Alvernia Hospital for a check-up at about 7.40pm that day. She was unable to go earlier as she had to pick her daughter up from school, go to the police station to make a report and send her children and mother home. Dr Ng Kwee Choon, who examined Madam Ng that night, testified that the shape of the red patch on Madam Ng's face appeared as if she had been hit by three fingers. Dr Ng added that the force used on Madam Ng must have been 'quite substantial' as they were still evident three hours after the assault. The court heard that before the incident, Ang had dropped off a passenger and was on his way to hand the taxi over to the driver of the next shift at 5pm in Bukit Panjang. In his defence, Angsaid it was Madam Ng who had dashed towards him and pretended to fall on him, claiming that he had hit her. He also said that the injuries on her face were self-inflicted. Ang left his taxi company four months after the incident. He now works as a driver for a paint company. In his mitigation, Ang's lawyer, Mr Raymond Tan, said that Ang had a clean record in his 30 years as a cabby. Ang's two daughters are working abroad and only his 27-year-old son is working here. In sentencing him, District Judge Wong Choon Ning noted that Ang was the sole aggressor throughout the incident. She added that even if there had been a collision, Ang should not have taken the law into his own hands. Said the judge: "(Ang's) wanton act of slapping (Madam Ng) hard on her face was deplorable and wholly disproportionate..." For voluntarily causing hurt, Ang could have been jailed two years and fined $5,000.

It seems like showbiz is taking a temporary backseat in Hong Kong actress-singer Isabella Leong's life. The girlfriend of Hong Kong billionaire, Richard Li, who is the son of billionaire Li Ka-shing, gave birth to a son named Ethan Li in April last year. Less than one year after giving birth to her first child, the 21-year-old starlet is pregnant with twins again. She is expected to go into delivery in October this year. After giving birth to her firstborn Ethan Li in America last year, Isabella has been enjoying a carefree and luxurious lifestyle. To prepare for her marriage into the Li family and to further enrich herself, she has been picking up Chinese culinary lessons and learning French. It was reported that the older Li appeared very delighted at this joyous piece of news. Although preparations have been made for Isabella to deliver the baby in America, Richard intends to have the delivery take place in Hong Kong instead. The filial son would like his father to be one of the firsts to carry his grandchildren.

Hi Bros, I've actually decided on a backpacking trip to London (+france+italy) in May. However, recently I realised that my wife's pregnant. Guess it's a accident I'm supposed to be happy about. But as we have already planned for the trip in advance and now this has happened so we are kinda at a loss what to do. According to the gynae, she says it's really ok to travel when she's 5mths. But I assume she only thought of the 13hrs plane travel and not the backpacking. But as this is summer season, we can carry very light and I can be the one carrying everything (I think?) but I really wonder if it's still a good plan to carry on. Currently I have a few options: 1) Don't be greedy and only stay in London walk about and come back after 7 days (reduce from 2 weeks travel) 2) Carry on with plan for 2 weeks since most of the travel should be by train / subway? 3) Discontinue with the plan. Already checked with SQ. They are ok to refund my tickets due to special circumstances. Does any bros got any comments? Why travel in May? Coz I'm using the 50% discount to redeem miles to London which is only available in May.

Story from here: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/singapor...nt.jsp?id=41059 http://www.asiaone.com/News/AsiaOne%2BNews...1104-98291.html He explains why he didn't give up seat to pregnant woman Desperate times call for depraved measures. The financial crisis might have hurt more than just our wallets. Last Sunday an ugly train commuter did not give up his seat to a pregnant woman, and went as far as to explain his selfish choice by saying, "Why should I reward the pregnant woman for bringing one more life into the world?" In an email to STOMP yesterday, the STOMPer who came across this disturbing scene said,"This man refused to give up his seat for a pregnant woman on the MRT yesterday at around 3pm. "When asked to give up his seat, he said, 'Life is already full of suffering, why should I reward her (the pregnant woman) for bringing one more life into this world?' "I took a photo of him after he said that, and he had the cheek to flash a peace sign as I was doing so. "At this point, the guy seated next to this unreasonable man got up and offered his seat." In times like these when a pregnant woman's privilege is turned into punishment, one wonders,"Have Singaporeans sunk to a new low of commuter courtesy?

Source: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/20...python-ewe.html Old news but ..... just look at that snake .... A fresh lamb dinner might sound like a manageable meal for an 18-foot-long (5.5-meter-long) python. But maybe the hungry snake should have waited for the lamb to be born. Last week firefighters in the Malaysian village of Kampung Jabor were called in to remove the bloated snake (pictured) from a roadway. The reptile had swallowed an entire pregnant sheep and was too full to slither away and digest its supersize meal. But the stress of being captured likely triggered the python to purge

Wed Dec 12, 2007 6:27pm EST By Anthony J. Brown, MD NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - During the last weeks of pregnancy, many women become so large in the middle that they look as though they might tip over. But through evolutionary processes, nature has devised a way to keep them upright on their sometimes swollen feet. In a new study, U.S. researchers show how the lower spine in females has evolved to support the obstetrical load experienced by species that stand upright on two feet, so that the center of balance is repositioned over the hips. "Most previous studies on the evolution of how human mothers have accommodated pregnancy have focused on the pelvis and the problems of birthing; this is the first study to look at how mothers cope with the considerable challenges of stabilization while they are pregnant," senior author Dr. Daniel E. Lieberman, from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, told Reuters Health. The normal curvature of the lower spine helps position the trunk above the hips in humans, thereby stabilizing the upper body over the legs, according to the report in the issue of Nature. Pregnancy, however, complicates matters as the weight shifts forward. In their study, Lieberman's team shows how over time the lower vertebrae in human females have become reinforced to allow the exaggerated curved position of the spine assumed by pregnant women when they are standing upright. This position allows the trunk's center mass to remain above the hips. By studying fossils of Australopithecus, the researchers found that these vertebral changes actually preceded the evolution of Homo sapiens. "For me, the biggest surprise was that we can see this maternal adaptation in the fossil record so far back," Lieberman said. "It makes sense that evolution would have favored mothers who were better at coping with these demands, but I didn't expect the fossil record would be good enough to yield such evidence." In future studies, he added, "I think we need to look more at the costs of this adaptation and how it relates to the back problems that so many of us regularly experience." Mon, Jul 30, 2007 AsiaOne MediaCorp drops pregnant Zoe Tay MediaCorp has suspended the contract of Caldecott Hill Queen Zoe Tay, who is seven months pregnant. Ms Tay, 39, who is expecting her second baby, said that under the company's new policy, pregnant actresses are suspended from work but they will be reinstated when they resume work. Gracing the latest cover of Citta bella, Ms Tay told the Chinese women's magazine that she is now "jobless" and confessed that she felt "troubled" about the situation as she currently has no income. She said her main concern now is getting her job back after having the baby, who is due in October. The actress, who has been married for six years to pilot Philip Chionh, also 39, found out that she was pregnant during the Chinese New Year period in February, but chose to announce the good news only after her first trimester. The couple have a two-year-old son, Brayden. She was able to continue working during her first pregnancy in 2004, and hosted an infotainment programme educating women on the dos-and-don'ts when having a baby. Asked if she would consider becoming a full-time mum, the former model-turned-actress said: "No way! I still need to work for myself. So long as the job gives me time to look after my children, I will not become a full-time mum." She added: "It's not easy being a full-time mum." Another MediaCorp star, Ms Huang Biren, who is also pregnant, apparently can continue to work because she is being covered by an old contract. Now two months pregnant with her second child, Miss Huang, who has a seven-year-old son, told Shin Min Daily news that she has not suffered the same fate as Ms Tay and is "still getting her normal salary." "My current contract is an old one which I signed with MediaCorp four years ago," she said. "It will expire next year after I have given birth, which means I can continue to work even while I am pregnant." Ms Huang said she is among a small group of artistes who are still on the old contract. Most of the others either renew or sign new contracts which carry the clause that actresses who get pregnant midway through their contacts will be dropped.

During my timing belt replacement, mechanic noted that my battery was getting pregnant. Highly possible it would explode. So I went to get a new one. Got an elephant sized 60Ah Hitachi for 90bucks. Watch out for anything pregnant in the car. Battery - abort it. Tire - get them to the nearest clinic. Woman - cannot get rid, drive carefully.

Irvine, CA - There are comprehensive safety systems in modern cars designed to help protect just about every occupant - except the unborn child. Researchers still know surprisingly little about what happens to a fetus in a car crash. To expand engineers' and designers' understanding in this area, Volvo Car Corporation has developed the world's first official computer model of a pregnant crash dummy. This 'virtual' crash dummy is a woman at a late stage of her pregnancy, since that is when the unborn baby is at greatest risk in an accident. The basic geometry was completed in January, 2002 and much time has been devoted since then to refining the model. "Now it's finished and we've started running simulated front-end impact tests on it," says Camilla Palmertz, a biomechanical engineer at the Volvo Cars Safety Centre in G
